Advantages Advantages Easy to use and makes you feel like a professional

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I bought this camera just over a year ago and ever since I have never looked back! I wish I had had this camera when my kids were born as I can now see the number of fantastic shots that I would have been able to capture that a regular camera is just not quick enough to do. This was one of the best items I have ever purchased. Preparing the camera for use Ok, so this is easy, no different to any other digital camera really. There is a memoty card to be inserted and there is a battery which needs to be charged. The battery is one that you take out and place into the charger that is plugged into ... more

    5 Stars Canon Quality 23/10/2009

Advantages Advantages Same Canon quality we have come to expect, great ISO capabilities.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Buttons can get fiddly in the cold.

Canon 500D Introduction Canons range of cameras is very impressive. Everyone can be accommodated for, there really is something for everyone. Camera Itself First off, the camera. The sensor on this model has a larger pixel count than many of its rivals and cheaper models in the range. The 15.1 megapixels on offer is more than enough for the market it is aimed at, these images will easily be blown up above A3 and still retain most of the detail. The new addition to this camera that sets it apart from the older models is the Full 1080p movies. Many photographers don’t like this new mode but if ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent image quality, high ISO, high resolution

Disadvantages Disadvantages HD video feature is disappointing- short battery life when in video mode, unsatisfactory FPS

Canon EOS 500D is my first ever digital SLR (Single Lens Reflection) camera. The image quality is considerably better than all the other [non-SLR] cameras I have used so far. Its noise reduction capability is excellent. This is very important, especially for a camera which boosts such high resolution (a whopping 15 megapixels) and high ISO (max 12800!). When coupled with a few good lenses (from the vast selection of lens available from Canon itself, or from Sigma, Tamron, etc), get ready to surprise your family and friends. Previous reviews have said enough good things about this wonderful ... more

    Advantages Advantages Ease of use

Disadvantages Disadvantages none to my mind

I've always enjoyed taking pictures, I mean who doesn't? I bought the Canon D500 a couple of years ago and can recommend it to anyone wanting to start on DSLR trail of photography. The quality of the picture is ultimately down to you, the photographer but the amount of goodies inside the D500 does make taking that perfect, sharp picture a doddle. The menu is clear and once you have found your way round it, you will see what i mean about the amount of goodies. I bought the model that had the 18-55 is lens as part of the kit, but with hindsight (and isn't that amazing?) I think buying the camera ... more

Advantages Advantages very light, easy to navigate the menu's and the same in every canon, good ergonomic design

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive, manual over complicated

I have recently purchased the Canon 500D, I bought the standard kit so came with the main body, 18-55mm lens (with covers), battery, battery charger and camera strap (need to purchase SD card/memory card separately). I took it out of the box and was pleasantly surprised how light it was even with the lens attached. I picked up the manually and instantly thought that it covers a lot of languages then looked agin it was all English, I found it hard reading as I was knew to DSLR's and all the technical words, so advise if buying as your first DSLR then purchase a how to book for the camera. It ... more

Advantages Advantages 12 Mega pixels, 2 more than the Nikon.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The Nikon as so many features that should be included on the Canon but aren't.

I work in a camera shop and i am constantly asked, The Canon 500D , or the Nikon D5000? Both cameras are in the same price range... be it the canon is always about 50 - 100 quid more expensive, but which is best? WELL, For picture quality, for the 2m pixels extra you get in the canon, you just cant tell! Honestly, don't look for it, you won't find it! If you want me to be completely honest, if i was using my own money, it would ALWAYS be the Nikon D5000 (no matter what your best friends uncle says!) The Canon 500D is a very solid camera, however the outer casing can feel somewhat plasticky ... more

Advantages Advantages 15.1 MP, HD recording

Disadvantages Disadvantages The price of accessories

Where do I start? The body is lightweight and easy to hold. The image preview on the 3" screen is high quality and gives a brilliant indication of your final image. The 15.1 MegaPixel - A welcome addition to digital SLRs, Crisp clear images that look outstanding at any size they are reproduced in! The 1080p HD recording facility - This really makes a difference to SLR's, a move in the right direction combines a video recorder AND a camera...Why spend your money on sepearate items when this brilliant camera combines the two? The HD facility of this camera ensures that it can record and show ... more
