Advantages: image quality, ease of use, lightweight, good battery life Disadvantages: opening battery compartment loses images, slow RAW conversion, image magnification at one level only
The Canon EOS D60 has been around for about two years now and was an improvement on an earlier model. I’ve owned it now for about a year and during that time myself and my family have had much usage and enjoyment from the camera. Having owned the camera for some time now I feel I am able to comment on all aspects of the camera and hopefully identify any disadvantages especially having a husband who works with cameras and therefore knows a lot about ... ...maximise your photographic options as Canon really are rather good at describing the exposure modes. The ‘basic zone’ modes available are as follows:
• Fully automatic picture taking: this aims to leave nothing for the photographer to do but compose the shot and press the shutter button, no focussing is needed on your part at all.
• Portrait Mode: this blurs the background to make the subject stand out, it can be useful for some shots but not if ...

Advantages: Intuitive digital SLR with great results Disadvantages: Superceded by the Canon EOS 10D
...soon don't buy!! That's 'cos Canon have released the EOS 10D which has better specifications and is £500 cheaper! (Canon D60 had a recommended price of £1999, the EOS 10D should come in at £1499) - though you'll probably be able to get it at £1199 by shopping around on the internet)
I took a long time researching which digital SLR to buy. Much of my information came from www.dpreview.com which has a fantastically detailed review of the Canon D60 ... ...already have a Nikon or Canon 35mm film camera I would recommend you consider looking at the same manufacturer's digital camera most closely - because you can use the same lens from your 35mm camera on your digital camera. The differences between the Nikon D100 and the Canon D60 are small enough that if you already have invested in Nikon or Canon lenses then it is a shame to waste them.
That said, if you are buying afresh then I personally would ...

Advantages: high resolution, SLR, full lens range available Disadvantages: flash exposure, cost
...with anticipation for an affordable Canon SLR, which would have been the D30, however there was no improvement in resolution over the Casio, so I decided to wait for the next generation from Canon which was the D60.
I read every review on the D60 and waited about 9 months after the launch before finally deciding to go for it.
My first impressions of the camera weren't very good. since it's mid winter, the first pictures were by flash and the camera ... ...was used to, however the Canon definitely gets it very wrong sometimes).
Another irritating thing is that most of my accesories for the EOS 5 will not work with the D60. The 420EZ flash will not work, the hot shoe adaptor 2 will not work, the remote switch will not work.
So that's the bad bits, the good bit is that the quality of the image is simply outstanding. I used to think the 3.3 Mpixel image from the Casio was good, but the D60 is way way ...

Advantages: They work Disadvantages: theres alot better out there for the cash
Having used the D60 for many months, I cannot truly say that its crap, however for the amount of cash, I really recommend looking at different models. It is now discontinued and there is good reason for it. File sizes are more than adequate however auto white balance settings are a bit dodgy and trying to get it to focus in low lighting conditions is a nightmare. The film speed setting is also quite disappointing, even though it goes up to 1000 asa ... ...results are diabolical, The D60 is now very cheap but I wouldnt recommend one unless you are using controlled studio lighting constantly, Try out the 20D that has just been released and I think you will see the benefit of spending that little extra cash, for similar file sizes but with so much more technology, i have found that I do not suffer as badly with the whites being bleached out with this model, and to be honest just general handling of the ...
