Advantages: Good build quality, great results and easy to use Disadvantages: Slightly fiddly on/off control
I have been the proud owner of MV550i Digital Camcorder for just over a year and it has proved to be well up to the tasks I expect of it. This was my first camcorder purchase and it was chosen on recommendation of the shop assistant as well as with Canons reputation in mind. At the time it came complete with a Firewire card (to connect camera to computer for editing) and editing software Presto! Videoworks.
The MV550i has the following extra features ... ... Greater focal length
22x optical zoom (instead of 20x)
440x digital zoom (instead of 400x)
Super Night Mode (instead of Night Mode)
Facility to record motion JPEGS
6 colour light up buttons
I connect the camera using a firewire cable to my computer to edit captured footage and then write the finished film to DVD. You can also write back to the MiniDV cassettes in the camera via the firewire cable but I did find that using this method ...

The Canon MV650i is part of the MV600 range. It's the top model and is packed with loads of features.
It's recording methood is Mini DV which produce fantastic quality film.
The camera itself is very small and compact and very lightweight. It's silver in colour with light up buttons which you have a choice of colours to pick from to personalise it. The camera has numerous features. It boosts a 22x optical zoom plus 440 digital zoom. The 22x optical gets you real close to the action the 440x digital zoom isn't worth using unless you absolutley need to.
a wide angle lense included which does come in hand for those closer shots. It simply screws in the front of the lens.

Advantages: Extremely easy to use, superb value, Superb lens with powerful zoom capabilities Disadvantages: Poorly located on/off switch
...like the feel of the Canon models so I decided it would be one of the 600 series but which one?
All the models in the range are fine cameras but I didn't want to buy something that would restrict me when it came to more advanced work later on. All of them have DV in & out which means that you can output data from the DV tape in the camera to your PC or tape, in addition to this you can record from Video tape back onto the DV tape in the camera. ... ...into the Camcorder and copy it to your PC for further editing before re-recording to tape or DVD. After checking out prices I plumped for the MV650i because it had all the features I wanted including a 22x zoom lens and was on offer on the web with a price that was a snip.
I got the camera and proceeded to check out all the attachments & buttons which seemed alarming even for a lower level camera. You need to bear in mind that many of these buttons ...
