Advantages: Simple, cheap Disadvantages: battery life, no firewire lead included.
...I looked at the whole Canon MV7xxx range from the MV750i right down to this one.
All through the range they use the same sensors to record the image (so same image quality) but the higher models have lots of features that I just don't need.
For example, I don't need the camcorder to take photo's and store them on an SD card, especially as they are at around 1Mega pixel anyway. Absolutely pointless, especially when I have a decent digital camera ... ...however I brought a device last year (VideOH by Adaptec) that allows me to connect my VCR to my PC to record VHS digitally if necessary.
The MV700 has low light setting, the MV750i goes one better and a super night mode. Another unneccessary feature as low light is adequate. Slowing the shutter down any further is going to make filming moving objects very difficuly.
My only real gripe is that it did not come with a fire wire lead, and for those ...

Canon MV 850i - camcorder - Mini DV
The cannon MV850i video camcorder had been recommended to me and when I first brought it I had no idea about these types of video cameras, it appeared to be quite technical at first with many different settings and other high tech facilities, If you have your reservations of all the different controls and settings then just switch to easy mode, point and shoot simplicity; just aim your cannon MV850i digital video ... ...canon MV850i video camcorder, sometimes we find it hard to choose and if you're an armature like me at buying photographic equipment, then choosing the chic MV850i is far-flung from a gamble.
The canon MV850i digital video camcorder is the BMW of the camcorder world with its Leap forward Through technology (Vorsprung Durch Technik) razor sharp Picture Quality, and very easy to use with its point and shoot simplicity.
The same zoom like the BMW, ...

Advantages: Small, easy to use, amazing zoom Disadvantages: Lacks one or two features
The MV700 was my first ever cam corder, and quite honestly, it is just amazing for a beginners camera for its price. Before i get onto its advantages, there is one important point that has to be made. This camera does not have a memory card reader, it is not a digital cam corder. It requires DV tapes, and if you are looking to edit the videos on a computer you require a firewire card. This was the one piece of information that i could not find anywhere, ... ...ever cam corder. But at the same time, for the price this camera costs, it is by far one of the best in its price catagory. Any old firewire card can be picked up for £15 at dixons, and can be easily fitted into a pc with a free PCI slot, and as soon as you have one of those, (and some DV tapes as these do not come with the camera) you are set to start your only little documentary.
The features on this camera are while pretty basic, quite plentyiful. ...

Advantages: Cheap, Good Quality Disadvantages: Low battery life, expensive media
I recently bought this camcorder from the Internet because it was the most reasonably priced model from a well known brand. I was not disappointed at all. It is very easy to use - I did not even have to read the instructions manual to take my first clip - however the battery life is too short especially when I use the LCD. Long life batteries are available but i feel that these should be part of the standard package anyway. Although nothing to do ... ...also very expenseive. The camcorder itself is very light and small and therefore very easy to carry. There is no protective case on the lense which means that you have to be extra careful not to scratch the lense. It has hundreds of features which I will most probably never use. It comes with a standard one year manufacturers warranty. All in all a great deal for the price. ...

Advantages: easy to use Disadvantages: not as many extras as the mv3700i
the canon mv700 isn't just easy to use, but practical and compact as well! cheap, reliable and interesting, it's no wonder everyone chooses a canon camcorder!
It's a great colour, it's got everything you need to have on a camcorder and it's totally amazing, if your going for a camcorder, go for the canon MV300!
with it's dv out, night mode, digital still, so you can take ordinary photo's, and all the digital effects, it's so compact that you cannot ... ...a camcorder for a long time, and i ended up getting one of the best ever! the instruction manual is easy to read and i was set up after about 5 minutes of getting it!
It comes with the dv out plug, a battery pack, an extra battery, a charger and lot of other things, in which i don't know the technical terms for.
So all in all, this camcorder is the best ever, and will probably last for many years to come! ...

Advantages: Very compact Disadvantages: difficult to use if you have big hands
Having just traded in my old digital tape camcorder for this new model, i am pleasantly surprised by the extra features, i wont bother to mention them all again as they are on the general description.
I have only had the camera for a day or so, but my initial reaction to it is very positive. I have found very little camera shake, and the night mode is excellent. I havent had the chance to put it through loads of tests yet but like i say i am impressed.
... ...the sound.
The menu systems are also very good, very easy to use and you dont need to be a genius to work it. Having spent an hour reading the handbook and a little bit of trial and error i seem to be getting the hang of it quite nicely.
Finally i should mention the one major downside. If like me you have hands like shovels lol you may find the buttons quite difficult to use due to the compact size, but i guess i will get used to it.
Thats it ...

Quick review of Canon MV 700
I bought a Canon MV700 in 2004 from Jessops as well. Mine has now (May 2008) developed the same fault - cannot record video, only sound). A very UNRELIABLE product. So much for their "heritage of precision optics" - what BS!!! ...

Advantages: Simple to use (point and shoot) Disadvantages: The camera "kit" (spare batteries, carrying case, casettes etc) cost a sizable % of the cost of the camera
I bought a Canon MV700 for £400 in March 2004 from Jessops and have had no issues with its usability - that is until 2 months back (Sept 2005). The camera (possibly the CCD) suddenly became faulty and was no longer able to "see". It could record sound and the blank screen and could play back recorded tapes, but that was all it could do. The problem started when I rang Canon customer service to arrange for its repair. Now, I had moved to the United ... ...customer service people is that Canon USA CANNOT REPAIR THE CAMCODER because it is a PAL system and they therefore don't store their spares (it seems they only store spares for NTSC camcoder that they sell in USA). And, I would have to arrange for the repairs with Canon UK - they wouldn't even arrange that ! I got the same response from these guys through their customer service email facility.
So the bottom-line is that Canon of one country can't ...
