Advantages Advantages Cheap but high quality

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No screen

I've always gone with HP for my printing needs and since ive got this I've been asking myself why. When I brought this printer a few months ago it cost me about £90 but i think its in the shops now for £60-£70 so its quite a cheap printer, therefore it must be rubbish? NO its the best printer I've ever had, true i never spend much on printers but this definitely surprised me with the quality. So what's it good for you ask? well here we go; General printing of Documents: Its fast, quality is always good and I've never had a jam or malfunction and I do a lot of printing I usually get through ... more

Advantages Advantages Quiet, fast, square, a paper tray plus a feeder and excellent prints.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly bigger than others of the same price range.

My previous printer was a Canon i850 - not a bad little printer - but it gave up recently so I started shopping around for a replacement. I half-heartedly looked at other makes, but the price and quality of the Canon printers, together with the price of their cartridges, always drew me back to them. They have a large range that I considered - the IP4200 was the cheapest at around £60, then the IP5200 and I also considered the MP500, an "all-in-one" printer. The specs I looked at were: IP4200 - price around £60, resolution 9600x2400 at 1pl (picolitre - very fine drops of ink), DVD/CD direct ... more

    Advantages Advantages Printing Quality

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noise

We recently purchased this printer because the price was good and we basically needed one. We came across the Canon PIXMA iP4200 because it looked good and the price wasn't that bad either (about less than £70). At first glance, it has a sleek and neat design, plus, it isn't all too bulky either unlike our other one which is huge- for the canon, when you don't need to use it, you can simply shut the lids down which is good because it makes it more compact and prevents any dust and dirt from getting in and damaging the thing so the practicality and looks is a added bonus. Another great thing is ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to use, 5 seperate ink cartridges

Disadvantages Disadvantages does not have a screen

After buying my canon ip4200 to replace an old printer I did not expect much from a printer costing so little, but I was pleasantly surprised. my first print job was a music cd that I had recorded for my wife, this was my first printable cd so i had to rely heavily on the bundled software. again using the easy print tool box this was very easy to do and the results were amazing. This software allows you to use any photo or picture, you can also type in any text onto the disc. using the supplied cd holder. For general document printing this printer is unbeatable, with 2 paper feeders, one ... more

    Advantages Advantages Prints well

Disadvantages Disadvantages Chipped cartridges a nightmare.

Ok. This is another thing I don't actually own. It's the main computer I work on at school and I sort of know what I'm talking about because I'm in charge of IT. So I err....bought it. This'll be a brief one. It's good. It prints well, has an easy set-up and came with functional, if not spectacularly exciting software. It has NASTY chipped cartridges which make cheap running a pain! It's quite chunky - you could almost have put a scanner on it. First the print quality. 9600 x 2400 colour and 600x600 black. The prints are crisp, clean and colour matching was good. Possibly the best of the 6 or ... more

This Canon Pixma iP4200 is the best printer I have ever owned, I have had Lexmark, HP and Epson printers in the past and been disappointed with them all for various reasons, when my last printer died, I went for this one, partly because of good reviews and partly for a new brand. The iP4200's silver plastic case feels solid and looks less boxy than other recent Canon models. Canon PIXMA iP4200 printer - Features The Canon PIXMA iP4200 is an advanced machine with impressive performance for small price, the Canon PIXMA iP4200 photo printer is priced at a level that will not break the bank. Advantages Advantages Good quality low price, with individual inks

Disadvantages Disadvantages Just a bit bulky

Decided to change over from Lexmark when my yellow ink ran out and it would cost more to buy ink than to replace the printer. Anyway I decided to go for the Canon based purely on the fact that it had individual ink cartridges at around £8.00 each. The Pixma iP4200 was the cheapest I could find and had quite an impressive spec, but I was a little dubious that such a cheap printer would perform well. Needn't have worried: Easy to set up if a little on the large side. Has two paper trays so you can have two types of paper in the printer at the same time (I keep photo paper in the bottom cassette ... more

    Advantages Advantages Pictbridge compatable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only has USB connectivity

Great printer, easy to use and fast printout. Has usb connectivity making it plug and play. Pict bridge connection if you have a suitable digital camera. It seems to be economical with ink useage and the inks arent as expensive as alot of models on the market. With it having several ink cartridges you only need to replace the one that is empty whereas others if the colour goes you cant just replace the cartridge that the colour has run out of. I thoroughly recommend this printer and there are usually several available to purchase through companies such as amazon. Or you can buy from the ... more

Advantages Advantages Quite cheap, decent photo prints, 5 cartridges, two feeding trays, printing on CD's

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fast, but only in draft setting. Replacement cartridges can be expensive

I bought this printer after my HP Laserjet 1000 broke. I wanted to move in a new direction and chose a Canon IP 4200. It is a very good machine. It is quite fast, although I could only reach the rated speed when selecting the lowest print quality. This printer is very sturdy and it has two paper feeders... on gravity feeder on top and a bottom drawer. Switching between the two is easy with the press of a button on the front of the printer. It makes use of 5 different cartridges: two black, one Magenta, one blue and one yellow. This helps to keep costs down, although the price of replacements ... more

1 Star Quick review of Canon PIXMA IP4200 by nigel_root 16/08/2007
I find this printer poor. I've only used it occasionally at home with Canon cartridges, and now it won't recognise it's own cartridges! So I have to replace cartridges in the hope that the next cartridge will be better.
