Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 1,856-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as 1 picoliter. More nozzles + smaller droplets = smoother, virtually grain-free images. Further, Canon's ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system - four dye-based inks and a pigment-based black ink - produces true-life photos with a wide color palette, along with laser-quality text. You won't have to wait long to see your results; a beautiful photo lab quality 4"x 6" borderless photo takes approximately 51 seconds. Advanced performance doesn't stop there. AE (Auto Exposure) Copy feature automatically optimizes reproduction quality based on the type of original you're duplicating. When scanning photos or graphics, you'll see high quality 1200-dpi reproduction with vibrant 48-bit color depth. Plus, advanced paper handling provides you with several smart options. The dual paper path allows you to keep photo paper stored in one tray and plain paper in the other - so you can print photos or documents without having to switch paper. You can even print 2-sided reports, saving paper. With the large 2.5" color LCD viewer you can evaluate your images in beautiful color, then enhance them before printing! Just insert your compatible memory card into a built-in card slot and begin viewing. As needed, your images will automatically be enhanced for red eye, sharpness and brightness on your subjects' faces. Or, you can fine-tune the images using the easy control panel. The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA MP500 Photo All-In-One's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of many conventional photos. And with the new smart LED ink tanks, your LED lamp flashes when ink is running low, and flashes even faster when nearing empty.

Canon MP500 - a decent reliable printer

Advantages: Cheap, quality print, quality scan, quite quiet, 2 paper trays
Disadvantages: expensive carts with chips, fiddly CD print

...use. If you use other Canon products (eg: camera/camcorder), then all the software works well together. Overall, it is a little bulky compared to many other that are available, and the paper support plastics are rather flimsey and so could be broken if positioned in many places - or if you have kids! It prints very quietly if wanted - which is useful. If you use compatible inks - you will not find it easy to do so with this and later printers from ... Read review
