I have a large amount of affection now for the Canon PowerShot A460 and recommend that everyone looking for a decent digital camera without a £150+ budget gives this a serious look. Once you've had your hands on this beast, you won't want anything else. ...

...naturally - on my old Canon A40 there was no playback sound). "In Conclusion"
The only real negative is the speed with which the two AA batteries are consumed, but that's my fault for not buying rechargables. This model is smaller & lighter than earlier versions, but functions are not sacrificed. Do buy an extra memory card, otherwise your enthusiasm for taking 5 megapixel photos will be swiftly thwarted by lack of space. The x4 optical zoom is ... ...you're contemplating a career as a paparazzo, probably unnecessary most of the time. There are a few other functions and changeable settings, but I can't find the manual to remind myself of what they are! So this review comes with a caveat: It concentrates on the elements I use on a regular basis and is not exhaustive. I've also undermined what was going to be my final point: Read the manual! As far as I can remember it is well written and informative, ...

Advantages: Clear photos Disadvantages: Not dust-proof
I owned this camera for roughly 6 months and bought it due to the reviews saying that it was pretty much indestructable and i was off to africa for a month. At first i found this a great camera. It has a fairly large screen and easy to use buttons. The picture was very clear and excelent for anyone wanting a sharp picture without the expensive price tag. Although it worked fine in Scotland , a week into my trip the camera stopped workin due to a ...

Quick review of Canon PowerShot A460
After just 6 months very light use this camera will go to the same place that my other cheap or cheapish digitals have gone, in the rubbish bin. Lens comes out but the lens cover fails to open. Was ok up to that point and could have been excellent value for money. To me cheap digital cameras = cheap mechanicals.
I've had lens mechanism problems with a Nikon and a Fuji. Battery problems with a Panasonic.
All I can say don't be fooled by brand names. At this end of the digital market they stand for nothing. ...

...are superb.
The camera also comes with an easy print funtion conecting up to a canon photo printer however I cannot comment on this.
Get some good rechargable batteries 2000 MhA at least, it is quiet thirsty.
Over all I am happy with mine and would recommend it to others. ...

This camera is a very good and easy to use point and click camera. It has a really nice big LCD screen, which can tend to eat up battery power, however, but is certainly handy for when showing photos to friends via the camera. This is why I suggest purchasing a spare battery, so for when you go on holiday for instance you don't have to charge batteries constantly. A big quality is the robustness of this camera, have even dropped it and been on several ... ...remarkably. So, if you require a camera for general use when you are out and about, and are not too concerned about a slightly lower number of pixels (although I find 5 mega pixels plenty for someone who doesn't take professional photographs) then I can highly recommend this well-built camera to you! ...

Advantages: 5 meg Pixels and a fair price Disadvantages: confusing controls
I was thinking about buying this camera and had the chance to try it out this weekend, before doing so and to be honest I was disappointed with it. I guess it's only minor things and may be due to me being used to a Sony but nonetheless it made me think again.
In particular I didn't like the zoom controls which took me a few attempts to remember where they were. The controls weren't well indicated. The other thing is that the shutter button is right ... ...with the frame set I turned the damn thing off! Because of this I was put off taking many photos and I can't comment on picture quality.

Advantages: easy and affordable price Disadvantages: much bigger
The Canon PowerShot A460 would have been a good camera a few years ago, but these days it just doesn't cut it. With only 5-megapixel resolution and horrible image noise, we can't easily recommend this camera. Even among sub-$150 cameras, there are better choices out there. Image quality was otherwise decent. The automatic white balance produced a drastic yellow cast under our lab's tungsten lights, though the tungsten preset proved very neutral, ... ...noticed some purple fringing around bright highlights, and while the images weren't the sharpest we've ever seen, they were on a par in that respect with other cameras in this price range. As a budget shooter, the A460 fails to really stand out of the crowd. Its most notable aspect is its 38mm-to-152mm-equivalent 4x lens, slightly more powerful than the 3x lenses found on most snapshot cameras. Its 2-inch LCD, however, is just a bit smaller than ...
