...have still the feeling that Canon engineers should work a little bit more in the reduction of buttons with more clever software programming/overall logic. Pity there is not a dedicated button for ISO setting. ISO can be set from ISO 80 to 1600, Auto - ISO 80 to ISO 200 or High Auto ISO 400 to ISO 1600. Picture Quality on the A590 is relatively good, outdoor pictures have great detail and almost no noise but the camera, instead of changing shutter speeds adjusts the ISO, this gives non blurry images but noise can be a bit of a downer, to keep noise out its best to use the flash, this works well and gives nice coverage of the space its 4X optical zoom works as you would expect, like a camera and the optical stabilization is a nice touch, it handles ... ...in good light but the Canon is very good. The Nikon P1 was 280 pounds the Cannon 117.50 online. (Canon's website says about 160) I suspect it might be a bit heavy on batteries compared to say a Sony. If you cant make up your mind which camera to buy, buy this one. You will not be disappointed. Disadvantages: clumsy to use sometimes

For a digital camera it is quite chunky - which I actually liked - it was really nice to hold. The zoom is also quite big compared to the camera and it felt a bit clumsy to use with some of the manual controls to play with (trying to keep it pointed at an object whilst changing settings etc..)
