...Sony cybershot h5 and the Canon powershot s3 IS. I really liked the look of both of these cameras and both had similar features. I decided on the Canon mainly because it felt good in my hand and it boasts an incredible super macro mode for taking close up shots. 12x optical zoom is excellent, digital zoom is basic. 6.0M pixels print hgih quality pictures. Great camera for beginners - semi-pro's. Buttons/ dials all set out ergonomically. Surprisingly small considering it's capability. I'd personally recommend it to anyone looking for an all round "day to day" camera. I've had the S3 IS for over a year (upgraded from an S1 IS) when prices dropped in anticipation of the S5 IS. It is a worthwhile upgrade, with twice the pixels (6.3m) and an increase form 10x to 12x zoom.
