Advantages Advantages Easy to use. will take great looking pics for you, whatever your ability

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit pricey ,but value for money. smaller controls than standard SLR

Before I bang on about the Canon S2 Is Digital camera, it is important to explain that while I believe it is an excellent camera, it is what it is within a specific price range, and is excellent because of its versatility to be as easy to use, or as creative and as flexible as you would want it to be. Therefore this camera could appeal to both amateurs who want a good Auto everything, all round point and shoot camera, and likewise this camera has the option to be set manually, allowing the enthusiast to be more creative with their photography. Before continuing any further, please let me say ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fantastic, clear photos

Disadvantages Disadvantages Placement of buttons near finger placement

This is my first camera review and to be honest I haven't a clue where it is going to take me.... or you! I arrived home in New Zealand for my son's wedding and on the early December day was to be joint host, along with his lovely bride's parents. Not the best time to be handed a brand new digital camera to record such an important day's events. But, I met the challenge, asked a few questions and off I went. Well, half an hour later I handed it over to my techno nephew and he took on the role of unofficial photographer of our family event and I am so pleased he did. Then, upon arriving home I ... more

Advantages Advantages 5 megapixel, 12x zoom, "super macro mode", integrated image stabilizer

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lens cap is a bit loose and keeps falling off

With my renewed passion in photography, deciding which camera I should buy was proving to be tough. I wanted a camera that would help me take some great nature shots, especially macros, and which would also double up as a camera for all occasions. A DSLR was out of budget for me and after a lot of thought, I decided on the Canon S2IS and I must say it has been the best decision for me. I have been using my Canon S2IS for more than 6 months now and I am extremely happy with its performance. The camera has a 12x optical zoom/4x digital zoom and an auto/manual focus with an ISO range of 50-400 ... more

Advantages Advantages small compact camera with a large zoom lens

Disadvantages Disadvantages pricey compared with similar cameras, lens cap that will not stay on !!!

Back in July, my old Minolta Dimage 7i gave up the ghost after only 2 years of service, I was quoted £200 as an initial repair cost which could of increased. I took the decision to purchase a new camera and use the £200 towards this purchase. After researching the current options available to me I was left with 2 choices the Sony W17 or the Canon S2 IS. Although the Sony had more pixels (7.2 against 5.0), and came with a free case I chose the Canon. T The Canon S2 SI is a good looking camera with many features, as mentioned before 5 million pixels that is high quality compared with some other ... more

Advantages Advantages Takes great pictures, easy to hold, has video recorder, 5 mega-pixels

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive and not for the beginner

I enjoy photography and have over a number of years bought my fair share of digital cameras from the days when they cost over £500 to the now lightweight and relatively cheaper dinky versions. For those with some knowledge of cameras and the specifications I will get the technical part over with: Lens (36 - 432mm) Optical Zoom: x 10 Aperture Setting: F2.7 - F3.5 with stabilised image functioning Shutter speed: 15 - 1/3200 sec Viewfinder: Colour - 1.8 inch in size with 114,000 pixels LCD screen: Flip and twist - 114,000 pixel display Media Type: SD Memory Card Flash range: 70cm - 5.2m (wide ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent photo clarity, Fast zoom, Image-stabaliser

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be tricky to get used to, noise prominant above 200 ISO

After switching from a small, compact Kodak digital camera to this, I must say it was a little daunting. This camera is quite hefty. It's not huge but it's not something you can carry around in your pocket. You will need a case for it :-) The camera's photo quality and shutter speeds are extremely impressive, though you wouldn't expect less from such a camera. The shutter speed is incredibly quick, even in areas with low lighting. The image clarity is next to perfect, even with the zoom at full range. The thing i found most impressive with this is how jam-packed it is with on-board effects and ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic 12X optical zoom, image stabilization. SLR style body.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bulky to carry. Manual focus not easiest to use

I have had my S2 IS for over 12 months now and have been very happy with it. It is comfortable to use, especially if you have a preference for an SLR style grip, otherwise it is probably a bit on the bulky side. Definately not a happy snapper, in your pocket camera!. The zoom is fantastic and the S2 image stabilization, to help with shakey hands is one of the best I have come across for the money. Automatic modes are aplenty, although I have found "Auto" will surfice for most situations, including indoors. The video mode is also useful, and although I have not shot video much on previous ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent picture quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages manual could be clearer

After a lot of research I opted to buy this camera as I prefer the size and feel of an SLR but couldn't justify the extra expense to buy a digital SLR. The clarity of photographs is excellent and the camera is fairly easy to use. It is very easy to use in 'auto' mode which I generally leave it set up in just incase I need to capture 'the moment'. However, it can do so much more and allows the photography to make creative choices. My one complaint would be that I feel I have to discover many of its features by chance as the manual that comes with it is in a miniature format which makes it ... more

Advantages Advantages Very fast to zoom around from 35-400 + very sharp lens, fast shutter

Disadvantages Disadvantages High Noise above ISO 200, Cap easy to come off

I must say this camera is not a small camera. If are bothered about carrying a camera around your neck, then forget this camera. Otherwise if you are in to functions and quality, then read on! The speed and control of this camera is just amazing. The shutter delay is almost nil which means you really capture the picture when you 'click'. The controls are very well placed which also mean you can change a setting very quickly without missing your shot. All cameras in this catergory produce almost the same same level of quality (which is by the way, very good), the differentiation though, come ... more

Advantages Advantages good quality photographs, amazing zoom!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Noise when recording unless set to mute

I was given this camera last year as a present and have definitely not regretted it. The self focusing feature is very, very useful and provides the user with good quality images. The camera is fairly bulky compaired to other digital cameras, but not when comparing with an SLR camera. There are many modes, and even though it takes a while to get used to, it is easy to use when you know how. I would recommend this product, as it has not let me down yet! The flash is good, and serves it's purpose well. With features such as black and white, sepia and tungsten, the photographer can successfully ... more
