Advantages: Ease/speed of application Disadvantages: Customer service
I chose the Capital One credit card when I needed to get a credit card quickly to pay for my work expenses. I’d managed to avoid getting a credit card when at university but was forced into getting a credit card when I started my job as my work travel company wouldn’t accept switch. *Application*
Application for the card is entirely on-line. This was really handy. The decision was made there and then – I was accepted without any problems. None of the questions I was asked were too probing and the speed of decision led me to believe that they’re not too picky about who they give cards to. However, I was happy as my card arrived within the promised two weeks. One of the questions you are ...

Capital One…….Be Careful To Pay On Time.. I have a credit card with Capital One and when I clear it I will cut the card up and throw the pieces in the air. I will explain! I took the card out about two years ago. The leaflet dropped through my letterbox telling me how wonderful it would be to have a Capital One card in my pocket, how cool and great this card would make me. So me being a fool at the instant offer of a bit of money applied ... ...I have to say that Capital One are not to fussy who they give credit cards to as most of my family have been offered one over the last year. And the fact that they gave me one right away proved that they give one to anyone!! So card in my hand, being a bit skint and Christmas coming I am tempted to spend a bit of this money that isn’t mine. So you see I do spend money, I just don’t spend my own. And you got it in one, I spent the whole ...

...though.
This is where Capital One steps in. They recognise the second chance and the opportunity to rebuuild your credit rating.
They have a simple application form, which is also short, and a choice of designs, ranging from lightning, to smarties, and have a guaranteed acceptance claim. And they appear to do this, without risking irresponsible lending - as they give you a very minor credit limit, but still an opportunity to repair that credit ... ...off my balance in full each month - this avoids the 29.9% APR, meaning I get interest free.
The APR is very high, but with the minor limit you can pay in full to avoid. The APR is clearly advertised though in the advert I saw, and the literature they sent me, so there are no headline grabbing typical APRs which no-one qualifies for. There is noloyalty scheme either, but that is not really an issue to me.
There are other charges, such as late payment ...

Advantages: Again, anyone can get one if your REALLY desperate Disadvantages: Bad customer service, high charges, slow turnover, lack of interest
I applied for a Capital One card for probably the same reason as a lot of other people, I was not left with a great deal of options......
I had a bad relationship which broke down and left me with a vast amount of debt which I am still paying off. This led to numerous defaults and behind payments. I applied to Capital One due to the fact that my current account I was left with only had a cash card availability.
Having grown tired of endlessly borrowing ... ...saw Capital one as maybe the answer. Now even with my chequered credit history I was accepted, obviously I was very pleased about this, but later I recieved a letter asking for a £50 security deposit for my card. So by this point, I hadnt even recieved my card yet and was already £50 out of pocket. My card eventually arrived and I was informed of my limit £200. So really £150.
Now the kind of things I wanted to buy on my card were things like presents, ...

Advantages: Allows young people to build up a credit record Disadvantages: Annual fee
I applied for a Capital One credit card about 2 years ago after my bank turned me down because I had never had credit before. This annoyed me a lot as to build up a credit record you have to get credit with someone but most places don't like to take a risk on young people. Capital one are good for young people who want to get credit however you need to be able to look after your money well to avoid building up a big debt. ...saw an ad online from Capital One saying that anyone was guaranteed to get a card if they applied online. The way they did this was by saying that either you would have a very low credit limit or for the people with the really bad credit history you would have to send them a cheque which they would then sit on all the time your card was active and if you failed to make a payment then that cheque was theirs. capital one is a great beginners card, as a first credit card i would recomend this strongly.
It is realy easy to apply for a card, either on line, over the phone or by post. I did mine over the phone and got an instant decision despit never having had anything on credit before so they had no credit record to compare it to.
My card arrived within 7 day and my pin was not far behind. You get to choose from lots of wonderful designed credit cards ... ...yours.
They set your limit quite low to start off with but gradually increase this with time if you are a good customer.
There interest rates are reasonable and they have lots of offers like 12 months interest free balance transfers which is realy worth taking advantage of.
My only gripe with these is that customer services is poor, not for what they offer but it is a foreign call center so i struggle to understand the person on the other end ...

What do you need from a Credit Card account? Well, for me the most important thing is easy access to, and management of, my money. Secondly, good service – the ability to swiftly get the answers I need and problems solved without a fuss. the interest rate on a current account is less important.
