    Advantages Advantages Ease/speed of application

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Customer service

I chose the Capital One credit card when I needed to get a credit card quickly to pay for my work expenses. I’d managed to avoid getting a credit card when at university but was forced into getting a credit card when I started my job as my work travel company wouldn’t accept switch. And so I was faced with deciding between the hundreds of credit cards that are available. (Please ignore the two long paragraphs at the end of this review if you’re not in the mood for some serious ranting – I just had to get it off my chest!) My priority when choosing a card was speed – I needed a card fast and ... more

Advantages Advantages Nearly everyone who applies gets accepted.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Hidden interest rates.

No credit history? Bad credit? Self employed? Can't get a credit card? You probably can with Capital One! 'Aha!' I hear you cry. 'There are other companies that provide credit cards for people with difficult credit histories, so what makes Capital One so special?' 1) An easy application process: You can log on to Capital Ones website and complete the application online in a matter of minutes. At the end you get an immediate decision. The form is easy to fill in, you are guided every step of the way and best of all you aren't made to feel like a second class citizen just because you have had ... more

Advantages Advantages They will accept you if you have a poor credit rating

Disadvantages Disadvantages High interest rates, no features

If you are just starting out and have no credit history or have a less than sparkling credit rating then a Capital One Classic Card may be for you. There are actually 2 options you can get - The Classic reviewed here or The Platinum which is for people with good credit records. You can apply online or in one of the many leaflets they drop into magazines these days. Applying online is relatively painless. It only took me 3 minutes to complete the form although at the end of my application the site hung and I wasn't sure that it had been accepted or not. I decided to wait and a few days later ... more

Advantages Advantages £4 in my pocket for every £100 I spend

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need to make sure you don't overspend

I don't usually get sucked in by TV adverts, but when I saw a credit card offering 4% cashback on purchases for the first 3 months my ears pricked up and I started to pay attention. I always transfer most of my salary into Halifax web saver account (Earning me nearly 5% interest) and pay for everything I possibly can by credit card, clearing the balance each month. Recently the amount of cashback that I have earned on my credit card has reduced to a meagre 0.5% from an original 2% so you can see why 4% cashback was attractive to me. Credit cards are great if you pay the balance off in full ... more

Advantages Advantages Good for bad credit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages High interest rate

I have one of these! I have had my fair share of debt problems and hence my credit rating is not too brill - this is where Capital One came to the rescue. The hubby has no problem getting credit - but as for me - well they see me coming and run a mile - except for Capital One that is. They do a card especially for those with a duff credit history and they very kindly gave me a card all in my own name. Just on a side note did you know that how you handle your credit and pay your bills affects more than just your ability to get credit. Apparently quite a few lenders and employers will check your ... more

Capital One…….Be Careful To Pay On Time.. I have a credit card with Capital One and when I clear it I will cut the card up and throw the pieces in the air. I will explain! I took the card out about two years ago. The leaflet dropped through my letterbox telling me how wonderful it would be to have a Capital One card in my pocket, how cool and great this card would make me. So me being a fool at the instant offer of a bit of money applied for the card and was accepted and had the card within a week, I have to say that Capital One are not to fussy who they give credit cards to as ... more

Advantages Advantages good if you have bad credit history as you will be accepeted

    Disadvantages Disadvantages APR very high

I would not normally endorse a credit card that charges a 29.9% APR, but I will on this occassion, as this really is a card with advantages and is user friendly. My credit rating is awful due to blowing a lot of money on a lot of rubbish, this has led to problems and a bad credit rating. When this happens banks and card issuers treat you like a leper, snubbing you for past errors. Sometimes this is due to genuine reasons such as responsible lending, which they are obliged fo follow, but they could be more helpful. They are not though. This is where Capital One steps in. They recognise the ... more

Advantages Advantages Again, anyone can get one if your REALLY desperate

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bad customer service, high charges, slow turnover, lack of interest

I applied for a Capital One card for probably the same reason as a lot of other people, I was not left with a great deal of options...... I had a bad relationship which broke down and left me with a vast amount of debt which I am still paying off. This led to numerous defaults and behind payments. I applied to Capital One due to the fact that my current account I was left with only had a cash card availability. Having grown tired of endlessly borrowing my parents card to make purchases over the internet I saw Capital one as maybe the answer. Now even with my chequered credit history I was ... more

Advantages Advantages Low APR, cute cards

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Online banking

Last summer, I saw a banner for capital one on the internet, & decided to apply. There were 2 reasons, the 6.9% APR on balance transfers for the life of the balance, and also the fact that I got a cute card with golden retrievers on it.... One plus point is their freephone help number. Compared to most credit card companies, with their 0870 numbers, this is a major plus point for me. Also, on the few occasions where I have had to contact customer services, the calls were answered quickly and effectively by staff who knew what they were talking about. The music while holding was annoying, but I ... more

Advantages Advantages Allows young people to build up a credit record

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Annual fee

I applied for a Capital One credit card about 2 years ago after my bank turned me down because I had never had credit before. This annoyed me a lot as to build up a credit record you have to get credit with someone but most places don't like to take a risk on young people. I was 19 at the time so when I received a leaflet from Capital One I thought to myself why not. I applied and was given a credit card. I though this was great because even though I had to pay an annual fee of £29 it allowed me to build a credit record so I was grateful for that. I was pretty naive at the time and they talked ... more
