Advantages Advantages On line application. Good web site.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No 0% of transfers

As I was browsing about the home page looking for a suitable product to review I came across the credit card section. One of my first ops was on Egg and since then I have acquired another. I know some of you may be saying, why 2 cards, well actually I have 3 but that’s another story. I no longer need to but getting a new card means that sometimes you can transfer balances to another card for 0% interest for usually 3 months. Very handy if you need time to find the money to pay off a balance. In some instances this could be a saving of hundreds if you have a high balance. Now to the Capitol One ... more

Advantages Advantages The only card that help one rebuilt credit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very high APR

As many other members have mentioned, Capital One Premier is a good card for people who have no credit history and wish to get a credit card so that their credit performance can be properly recorded. I will keep it brief here due to limited space and for ease of update reason. http://www.mycoupon.freeuk.com/creditscoring.htm The sceneario in UK is very much different from the USA where there are many secured credit cards where one can deposit some money and secure those money against the card. These cards are great as they are easy to get (as there is no risk to the lender) and allow one to ... more

Advantages Advantages it's a credit card which lets you get back on the 'staight and narrow'

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive, high interest rates, big fees

There are two types of basic credit card in the financial marketrplace. Type A – Low interest rate aimed at people who have a track record that they can be trusted. And then there are Type B Cards which are for people who have had financial problems in the past. I’m ignoring the Gold and Platinum cards in my assertion above, because for this opinion I am taking a look at one of the Type B Cards – for the less than financially astute! CAPITAL ONE basically aim at the lower end of the market - for people who can't get a credit card anywhere else. They also offer a ‘Platinum’ card, but in all ... more

    Advantages Advantages Still thinking...

Disadvantages Disadvantages General incompetance of staff and poor product

Charged £72 for a day late in payment, how much was the payment for? £5! This statement sums up Capital One better than any other I can think of. I have always paid my credit cards on time due to the charges that you incur if you miss a payment. I have found Capital One to be extremely unaccommodating to any requests or problems I have and therefore set up a payment through my bank to make sure that Capital One always got the bare minimum that they required. However, according to a Capital One customer services representative, even though they were open all the days that the banks were over ... more

Advantages Advantages improves your credit rating

    Disadvantages Disadvantages high costs

As someone who has never needed to use a credit card until two years ago, I had never given much thought to applying for one until as a consequence of my job I have to travel a lot. I had always subscribed to the fact that if you didn't have enough money to pay for something then you couldn't afford it. (My fathers saying!!) So imagine my surprise when I applied to a few credit card companies and had my application declined. When you get a decision from a credit card company that has declined your application they give you the address of the credit reference agency they use. So I duly sent of ... more

Advantages Advantages it's a credit card primarily for those people that can't get one elsewhere

Disadvantages Disadvantages £18 annual fee and 29.9% interest rate

This is one of those credit cards that you see advertised for people who can't get one anywhere else. We have had several mailings come through the post from Capital One, for both of my sons who had rather shot themselves in the foot with injudicious use (to put it mildly) of their first credit cards. Fine so they were both 18, had a bit of money to spend, but they both looked upon the credit limits given to them by their Miidland Bank mastercard as a 'bonus'. They forgot that once they'd used it - they had to pay it back. One of them has since had a loan turned down by his bank - not because ... more

Advantages Advantages looks at applictions individually, internet options, variety of cards

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can start with high APR

Lots of people in this country have had trouble obtaining a credit card at some point in their lives. This can be because of previous bad credit history, not being on the electoral register or simply because you have not had credit in the past and therefore do not have a history of paying instalments on time. Capital One joined the UK credit card market in 1996 and at the time was one of the top ten bank card issuers in the USA. At present they have over 48 million customers worldwide. When the joined the UK market they advertised a lot as being a card which specialised in people with no or ... more

Advantages Advantages Useful for learning money discipline

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Please see text

Background In today’s world where 90 percent of your buying power is linked to your credit history if you don’t have some sort of credit card your spending power is extremely limited. As a result I chose to apply for this card after American Express turned me down. To my pleasure I was promptly accepted and given a credit limit £500. This I thought was amanageable amount for a first credit card. About ten months after the issue of the card there was one month where I could not pay the full balance off. When the bill came in I was shocked to find the amount of interest was almost ... more

Advantages Advantages Credit card for those with previous problems

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Extortionate APR

Firstly, Capital One are not perfect. The interest rate is exceptionally high (APR is 29.9%), they are quick to jump on late payers with enormous charges, and the credit limit, to start with, might as well be a few quid cadged from your Dad rather than a serious amount of credit with which to juggle your cashflow. However, after being made redundant six years ago, I ran into severe debt problems because I had chosen not to take out payment protection (please, anyone that reads this, NEVER make that mistake - for a few pence a month, you will keep an unblemished credit record should you be made ... more

Advantages Advantages Builds up Credit, No Annual Fee

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not very appealing card

I never really bothered to apply for credit cards because I never felt the need to use one as I was on a good wage and I never spent more than I could afford. I was also using a Pay As You Go mobile phone at the time and found that budget wise, I would save a lot more if I decided to go on a contract. To my horror, I was declined on every network by the credit reference agencies. I couldn't understand why, as I had never been in debt or even overdrawn on my account. I went home and spoke to my step-dad who is a financial advisor and he told me that the reason wasn't because I had bad credit ... more
