...and ask lots of questions! Cardiff University is well regarded by employers and it is a quality institution. The entry requirements vary from course to course, for my course (English and Philosophy) the minimum is ABB, but other less popular courses have a lower minimum. As I am paying £1075 a year tuition fees I want to feel I am getting me moneys worth. The lectures are huge, with up to 500 people, and so once everyone has got into the lecture room that has knocked 5 minutes off the lecture. Also, sometimes they finish early. This is a small thing, but it bugs me. Most students are pleased that we have less time in lectures, ...

Cardiff has the highest population of students in the UK so student digs are plentiful. But you must beware of a minority of 'Landlords From Hell' who don't comply with basic health and safety regulations such gas certificates.

Advantages: Its a city without pollution. Disadvantages: Its wet and windy a lot of the time.
Cardiff University has a great deal to offer its students. First off, it has the largest single Union in Britain - 7 bars in one building plus pool hall, games room, etc. But all this you can find in the prospectus. What you cannot really find in the prospectus is the experience of living in Cardiff. I would describe it as a living in London, but without the polution, traffic congestion and with the countryside (not to mention the seaside) close ... ...Essentially, Cardiff offers everything a student needs not only to survive, but to enjoy their course. My only advice would be to seek assistance when searching for your accomodation (the Union is more than happy to help) and make sure you have good waterproofs: it gets rather wet. ...

...at the University Of Wales, cardiff since September 2000, and I think the place is excellent. The course I am studying, Business Administration, has proved to be agood choice, although my mid-year exam results were quite literally nothing to write home about (my Dad would kill me!), but the mainly the student lifestyle at Cardiff is great.

I came to Cardiff to do an Earth Science degree and hadn't payed much attention to what city life was actually like before I came here, so when I arrived I was very surprised to find a city which had all the advantages of a capital city; shops, nightlife, ammenites etc and yet it was all placed in a very small area. The union is one of the biggest in the UK, having a large pub and a nightclub, a smaller bar which is often hired out for society events ... ...I have to say that cardiff university has been outstanding in both teaching & support and activities & nightlife. I can only talk for the Earth Science department, but their standard of teaching, library and computing facilities is amazing. The IT rooms are 24 hours, 7 days a week and are very rarely too busy to get a seat. If you have any problems then there are people on hand to help you. The main building - where most of my lectures are held (unfortunately ...

After achieving my place in Cardiff University last summer I have to admit I had many reservations like what if I don't like it?, what if I don't make any friends? all sorts of things came into my mind. However when I finally sat down and said 'hey this is an amazing opportunity - i'm going' it was just a rollercoaster from there.
I actually live at home and commute to uni as the public transport is superb. My bus drops me off and the walk is about ... ...banks which are really handy. Cardiff uni also has numerous student residences all with excellent facilities and most are within walking distance to the shops in the city!! The whole atmosphere on Campus is great, everyone is really friendly and the support from staff is also the best.
Apart from this fabulous uni, Cardiff itself is a buzzing city for students. Numerous bars, cafes and nightclubs mean that there is always something to do and see. ...

Advantages: Best Students Union, Best people, Compact City, Social Life, you will get to know everyone Disadvantages: Cold & Wet - but not really a problem
...SOCIABLE course in all of Cardiff uni (in my opinion). All the Business Admin lot are party animals and you always see each other out drunk. (The Medics are also known to be party animals) The next day at lectures can be very funny/embarrassing/humiliating :) Believe me when I say that in terms of your social life, its better to be on a big course. I love my coursemates and it also makes graduation something to look forward to!
The 1st year doesnt ... ...hard - gets tough cos Cardiff is such a good bus school, they really mark you on your essays, they expect high standards, and you gotta reference everything. The more references the better, quote everything. Everything is marked externally as well. Think u do 5 compulsory modules and 1 optional. I did marketing environment. The 2nd yr counts for 40% of total degree and the 3rd yr 60%. 3rd yr - very stressful (as is all final years) - even harsher ...

...my fourth year studying in Cardiff University. If I wanted to descibe the way of life in Cardiff, only one word would be appropriate: AMAZING. I am studying International Transport. Academic standards are very high, lecturers are really helpful and most of them are experts in their fields. The Cardiff city centre is wonderful (especially Queen Street). Plenty of shopping arcades are dispersed in Queen Street which give plenty of opportunities for ... ...low cost. Accomodation in Cardiff is not bad, if you are lucky not to get involved with a messy landlord (plenty of them exist in Cardiff so be careful).
I left night life for last because it is the best. Many pubs, bars and great clubs are available for all shorts of tastes.
I would really recommend anyone to go and study in cardiff ...

Advantages: Compactness of city, student's union, quality of teaching, affordabilty Disadvantages: Damp weather, some student housing
Many of my school friends couldn't understand my soing to Cardiff. Coming from Wales they all wanted to get out. To them it was all rain, sheep and boredom.
Cardiff's main strength is the compactness and layout of the University campus, Uni accomodation and housing. The majority of the campus, halls and housing are all within 1.5 sq miles so you can easily walk or cycle withoug ever having to catch a bus. The city centre which is excellent also ... ...Some of the housing is dingie as in most student cities but accomodation is quite cheap, well at least it was 3 yrs ago.
In terms of its social scene, there are well over 100 student societies from surfing to the Arthurian Society (quite bizarre). The union is the best I've been to. It regularly has good bands, good dj's and cheap nights on a weekly basis. The city centre also has good venues such as the Toucan Club, Clwb Ifor Bach and Emporium. ...

I applied to Cardiff becasue I have relatives in the area and have always liked the city. I nearly didn't put Cardiff down on my UCAS list. I hadn't been here for an open day or anything and I had other choices, but when one of those turned out to be not for me I put Cardiff down anyway, grabbing at straws. I visited the school last week for an open day - it was really good and I hope I will get an offer from there. The facilites are all self contained in the Glamorgan building and the Bute library next doors which is great! It is also the best planning school in the country.
They gave us a presentation on the courses available and it looks as though there's plenty of opportunity for specialisation as a planner. There are also quite a few field trips ... ...which is cool. In your third year you get to do a paid work placement. Hopefully I'll be able to do the one closest to where I live that way I'll save even more money. You get paid 13k to 18k a year which means you can start paying off your student loan which is pretty decent.
You also have the oppotunity to stay on for a fifth year if you're not already sick of it to do a masters. I would really like to do this but don't think I'll be able to afford ...
