Long live the king of economy beers

Advantages: Very Crisp taste. very cheap. Not too bad alcohol percentage
Disadvantages: A little lacking in some quality, dehydrates you a lot.

...but it is cheap. Carling is a middle strength lager at about 4.1%, nothing too special there, it is quite refreshing and crisp in taste but its redeeming feature is its price. Carling can be found in pubs and clubs for as little as £1.50, it is a very common beer in my part of the country and is normally one of the ubiquitous beers, so that it is found in pretty much every bar. You may detect through the course of this opinion that Carling is not ...
...The Product Taste Carling has quite a distinct taste, it isn’t the most beautiful taste in the world, but there again more importantly it isn’t the worst. It is a classic lager really extremely bubbly and best when ice cold. Its taste is very sharp and crisp, but isn’t really something to savour over a prolonged period of time. It is easily more palatable than some of its closest contenders including Carlsberg, Heineken and Fosters. ...

What a difference a Carling Makes

Advantages: Crisp and refreshing, gettin pissed is allways fun too.
Disadvantages: Not very nice if served warm, pricey in some establishments. Not as nice when out of a Can.

...you, an opinionated opinion of Carling Black Label. How about a nice refreshing crisp glass of Lager? Few can resist the charms of a pint of larger, I can safely say, that when it comes to Carling, I’m DC, and I’m an alcoholic. COST Carling, whilst being one of the most sort after Lagers, is probably one of the cheapest, averaging just £1.95 per pint throughout the UK, although I have seen it for as low as £1.35 per pint. With regards ...
...TASTE As a drink, Carling is desirably smooth, crisp and refreshing, although it does tend to have a bitter aftertaste – I find the best way to eliminate this is to top it up with a splash of Lemonade, this removes the harshness of the taste but doesn’t dilute it to shandy. Best drunk cold Carling Black Label is a popular choice throughout the UK. Prime sponsors of national events like major football tournaments have encouraged Carling ...

Carling! MMMMMMMMMMM!

Advantages: It tastes great
Disadvantages: It gets you drunk

...Leeds Festival 2007. The Carling story dates back to 1818 when Thomas Carling, a farmer in England's Yorkshire district, took his family to the rich farmlands of eastern Canada settling at what is now the city of London, Ontario. During his first year there Tom Carling cleared a small area. Then,in accordance with the custom of the day, he called on his neighbors to help at a "stumping bee", a cooperative effort in which each man brought his own ...
...The first Carling brewery was a modest affair - a couple of kettles, a horse to turn the grinding mill and six strong men to work on the mash tubs. Carling was his own sales and shipping department. He started by trundling his wares through the streets of London on a wheelbarrow. This was the humble beginning of what was to become a worldwide brewing organization. Tom Carling established the brewing company that bears his name in London in 1840 ...

Sweet as Fresh Pee

Advantages: It's everywhere, it takes longer to drink than shots or bottles, fairly cheap.
Disadvantages: It's a mans drink!

...my boyfriend's favourite tipple is Carling (generally in a can) though, there are usually a fair few cans in the fridge at home. So as my finances don't really stretch to my choice of cocktails every night, it has to be Carling the rest of the time. Most pubs do Carling on tap as the standard lager, so blokes get used to the taste of it from a young age (preferably 18 but you know what young people are like). Compared to other lagers such as Stella, ...
...do tend to ask for Carling because of the distinctive taste and familiarity with the brand. Not great reasons, I know, but at least I know what I am going to get. In the pub Carling tends to cost around £1.50-£2 a pint, with city centre bars charging more, possibly up to £4, although I think anyone who pays £4 for a pint to be a fool! In the off licence or supermarket, you can usually buy 8 cans of Carling for £5, which is a pretty good deal. If ...

Dishwater or British pride? (Carling Lager)

Advantages: Cheap.
Disadvantages: Weak watery taste.

...Carling. The tin of carling I have chilling in my fridge contains 440ml of 4% vol beer and cost me £1.09. The tin is black and white and boasts that Carling is made with British barley and has been for over 30 years, the beer is made from 100% British barley and that the beer offers a complete flavour and refreshment for all. I will put the latter to the test shortly. The tin also contains nutritional information which initially boasts that each ...
...am disappointed. I always remembered Carling to be not too bad, a bit fizzy but OK. However either the beer has changed or my taste buds. The beer has a watery taste which is very weak and has very little in the way of flavour. The taste vanishes from your mouth as soon as you shallow and you are left wondering whether you have just sipped from a pint glass or the washing up bowl. The flavour is not robust and only bloats you as the beer is so fizzy. ...

I bet he drinks it... I know I do

Advantages: Tastes good anytime - even from a can or bottle; pleasant taste, not too strong; can be drunk for extended periods without too much fear of excessive vomiting.
Disadvantages: You're looked down on by all the poncey Stella and Kronenbourg types. Grrr.

...to make. I am a Carling (by the way, they've dropped the Black Label bit) drinker. Pink and Dave27 are cordially invited to, in the words of every bar room brawl in history, "step outside". As everyone knows, badmouthing a fella's beer is like slapping you with a glove in 17th Century France. Carling is the drink of the Gods. Now, I'm not sure for exactly how long I can extol the virtues of what is essentailly just a drink, but I'll give it a go. ...
...of these so-called "speciality" lagers, Carling is readily available just about anywhere. Result! At home, as with any alcoholic drink, it's just not quite the same. Widget or no widget, beer out of a can is never as good as beer from a pump. However, Carling manages to come across pretty well, and is often one of the cheapest brands in supermarkets - making it the perfect accompaniment to a quiet night in, or a game on the box. It's a bloke's beer, ...

CARLING'S not my Darling

Advantages: It's wet and it's cheap
Disadvantages: Pretty bland

...a disappointment. CARLING used to be part of Bass before becoming part of Interbrew before becoming part of Coors UK. Naturally, in South Africa, Carling is brewed by SAB who own Miller. While in Canada, it comes under the Molson flagship. So you can see it's a beer that has a strong independent identity..... With such a huge marketing presence, it comes as no shock to learn that Carling is the UK's best-selling beer - accounting for 1 in every 5 ...
...and superbly refreshing." CARLING pours a bright and clear, golden yellow colour with a pure white crown of foam that very quickly collapses into not much more than a slight film. There's very little lace to speak of, so I won't. The aroma is less of beer and more like over-cooked vegetables - and vegetables cooked in an old zinc tub at that. This is due to a nasty metallic edge (although a lot of this may be down to the can). I can sense a faint ...

I bet I drink Carling Black Label

Advantages: It's Beer
Disadvantages: Hangovers (if you have to stop drinking)

...lager in the UK is Carling and in my opinion it's the only one that tastes correct from a can or a glass. If you want to drink lager from the bottle then go with Bud (buts that's a different review). Carling currently accounts for 11% of lager sold in the UK. You can buy cans of assorted sizes up to 500ml and you can also buy it in bottles but you shouldn't. Your bog standard Carling is 4.2% (I'm going from memory on that though & as I only look ...
...but you can also buy Carling Premier which is 4.7% & keeps it's head or C2 which is a low alcohol version at 2% for ladies and drivers and such types. Carling also contains calories but I don't know how many. It's actually pointless weighing up the calorie count for lagers because chances are that if you drink enough of it you'll also be tempted to consume any old junk - bar snacks such as peanuts & crisps, a kebab on the way home, pizza, the saliva ...

OH WELL, IT'S BETTER THAN GNAT'S PEE..

Advantages: Can be bought cheaply at supermarkets, won't get you too drunk!
Disadvantages: Fairly mediocre

...am qualified after all!! Carling Black Label – forget trendy TV adverts for a moment and let’s concentrate on the product itself. The can is black and white (hence “Black Label?!) and 500ml size – if buying a bulk back of 24 cans it only works out at about 80p per can if on offer at the supermarket but per can it is generally about £1.20 - £1.50. Brewed in Britain (Burton-on-Trent apparently?) and been around for some time so I guess it must be ...
...the can “superbly refreshing, with a unique malty sweet flavour, balanced with a hoppy bitterness and the aroma of freshly harvested grain”!! I dunno about that, it just tastes and smells like your average mid-range lager to me!! Pass the White Zinfandel if you please….. I’ve drunk a few cans when not in the wine mood and particularly at the Reading Festivals which are sponsored by Carling, and very little other beer is available apart from this! ...

Beer! Now there's a temporary solution

Advantages: Cheap, tastes crisp and palatable, widely available on tap
Disadvantages: Side effects include hangovers, nasty if consumed less than chilled

...As many people will know, Carling seem to sponsor everything, they sponsor the FA Premier League, Celtic and Rangers, and possible the more well know Carling Reading and Leeds festival. Possibly as a result or perhaps because it is so dirt cheap it can callitself the "best selling beer in Britain". But does it taste like a party in your mouth I hear you cry! Well it does taste nice, but that is rich coming from someone who thinks 'White Gold' (a ...
...go into details. Also with Carling I have found that you can drink this beer all night, and you will not really get sick of it. With other beers, suchas the nasty XXXX after a few bottles you may have to change to another beverage to rid of the nasty taste. One major plus is that this beer is found extensively in many of the bars, pubs and clubs you may just happen to stumble upon. My student union in manchester has this on tap and I estimate probably ...

Darling You Are FOUL

Advantages: beer?
Disadvantages: tastes rank, foulness.. read

...I've been drinking!). Carling then, darling. I'm not sure why I actually put up with it for several weeks of my life. But I'll come to that. Firstly it's good points. I awoke after drinking many, many pints of the grog only to be greeted by a slight drowse but absolutely no hangover; this is of course a good thing. Another thing is that it is reasonably cheap, though still not worthwhile. And I suppose it get's you drunk which is good, but it doesn't ...
...On the downside, Carling tastes like it's piped via the sewers of Manchester, mixed with water from the ship canal just by the side of Canal Street, spilt on Oxford Road, mopped up from a puddle with rag that has just cleaned up the vomit on the window of a certain Oxford Road kebab shop, which is wrung out into a nice clean pint glass and then mixed with urine in order to regain the beer's expected colour. Or in another word, the beer tastes: dirty. ...

Battle of the Bulge

Advantages: Cheap, No Hangover
Disadvantages: Nasty end taste in cans

...Sam Fox to shame and Carling Black Label is to blame. My local off licence sells Carling for a criminally low 49p a can! How can I possibly resist when the alternative of a trip to the gym and a bottle of Evian will set me back the best part of a fiver? Carling is a steady and underrated performer in the lager stakes. Admittedly it doesn't have the sharp crispness and taste of a Kronenbourg or Stella, but it has more than enough going for it to be ...
...morning. The only downer to Carling in can form is in the last dregs which turn into a sickly sweet warm syrup. I have no qualms about ordering Carling in draft form from any pub. You can guarantee that Carling will be available for around £2 a pint even in trendy rip-off joints where other draughts will be nudging the £3 mark. Occassionally you will be lucky enough to find it on offer between £1.50 and £1.80 a pint, especially at Wetherspoons or ...

More Than A Tad Bland

Advantages: Available in numerous places. Relatively Cheap
Disadvantages: A tad Bland. Not Robust. Flavour is nothing exceptional

...patriotic instincts and put "British" Carling lager well down the list. Actually Carling did not start off as British at all. It was first brewed in Canada during prohibition by Ontario Carling Brewery and was then known as "Black & White "lager and was brewed for export only. It was not until 1954 that Carling was marketed in UK when it was brewed and bottled by the Hope & Anchor brewery in Sheffield, Yorkshire. Sales of Carling Black Label -as ...
...1976 a billion barrels of Carling were being produced annually in the UK and it was starting to become something of a household name. Today,as part of the giant Bass group, Carling is reputedly the best selling lager in the UK,outselling the likes of Carlsberg and Fosters. In the year ending August 2001,over 4 billion barrels of the stuff were sold in UK.Of course, today,it is a heavily advertised brand ,you know the slogan.."...I bet he drinks...." ...

Have you tried it wet yet ?!?!?!?!?!

Advantages: It's cheap and available almost everywhere !
Disadvantages: One too many and you might turn Bertie !

...The 10 pack of Carling is neatly presented in a handy cardboard box which has the distictive logo on the front. There is currently an "instant win" competition so it is even more eye catching. Though, alas, I have not won anything with the can I am drinking :-( I can be a bit of a pig when it comes to lager and tend to drink it from the can, for some reason it usually tastes better, and of course there is less washing up ! However, to fully appreciate ...
...appears ! lol Unfortunately, Carling does have a tendancy to go "flat" rather quickly, and I HATE flat lager ! YUK ! I think the moral here is to drink as quick as possible, this is not usually a problem for me, but when I am chilling out at home I do like to take my time. I would say that Carling can easily be compared to Fosters lager, the taste is smiliar and so is the price and availability. I paid £6.50 for a pack of 10 Carlings, so it's ...

So this comes to you in a traditional black and white tall and thin can with its elegant design on the front saying carling. At 4.1% alcohol I think they have mastered it to a fine art.
