Advantages Advantages cheap, easy to use, nationally used for G.C.S.Es, Battery life, the display

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Price No matter how much this calculator costs it is worth it, this is because these calculator are used nationally(KS2, KS3, G.C.S.E's) in the United Kingdom and therefore if any issues do arise then a G.C.S.E student could ask his/her friends or the teacher. A brilliant thing about these calculator is that they extremely cheap you can grab one of Amazon for a £10. From ebay you are able to purchase the never version (Casio FX83 Gt Plus) for £6. So no matter which way you look at it these calculators are a bargain. Ease of use Yes, you get an instruction manual, but I believe that it is ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, Price, displays fractions, many features, design, Memory store.

I have had this calculator for many years now, I remember I carrying this with me throughout my time studying GSCE, and A levels, I even took it with me to University just in case I needed it, however studying Psychology meant the calculator stayed in my bag most of the time. PRICE This calculator is really cheaply priced compared to other scientific calculators; Amazon has it for sale for around £7.00 Play.com £10.99 Euroffice £7.50 Supplies Group: £9.42 It’s worth noting the shipping costs, as some online stores have a hefty postage & packaging price. I am sure that it can be found at high ... more

I bought this calculator a fair while ago now- it must be about three years as I bought it for the start of my GCSEs as it was recommended as a good calculator for this stage of mathematics. I think I paid around £12 at WHSmith for this calculator but I have heard that you can get it very cheap on the internet- I even heard of a friend that got it for £3 at some place on the world wide web! (Possibly ebay?) This product is very compact and thin which makes it great for just slipping into your school bag and it has a slide on case which protects the screen..although I have actually lost this as ... more

Advantages Advantages Very cheap, reliable, recommended by universities (most)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow, not solar powered, no memory

I brought my Casio fx-83 ES in my first year of university. It was the recommended calculator at the time by my university (Kingston upon Thames) and is now one of only two allowed in examinations. You can't really get more reliable than a Casio, not in my experience anyway. That being said I buy a brand new one at the start of each academic year. That is the other main advantage of a FX-83 ES: very cheap. I buy it from the local ASDA at around £6, they usually have a deal on at the start of the school year. I have never had one of these fail on me and as an engineering student I use daily and ... more

Advantages Advantages great features, easy to use and is cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages newer models available

This calculator has been with me now through thick and thin in everything that I have done so far. Purchased around 4-5 years ago, this reliable workhorse has helped me in GCSE, additional, AS and A2 maths. This version comes without the solar panel but actually that doesn't work that well and I find my calculator lasts just as long as a friends who has a solar panel (I have only replaced the battery twice). ---Features--- The main reason that I like this calculator so much is because of it displaying fractions as actual fractions. This 'natural display' as Casio call it, has made inputting ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to use, price

Disadvantages Disadvantages i keep losing mine!

I have had a few of these calculators over my time and I've used them for GCSEs, A Levels, University, at home (for working out where my money's gone!) and I also use this model at work too. It is an integral part of the Casio range and compared to the rest of the range, I think this model sits in the middle both in terms of price and in terms of functionality. This model is not unlike others which Casio offer and it looks similar to many of them. It is a really slim line calculator and it comes with a slide off lid. I have lost a few of the lids over the years as you aren’t often allowed to ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, great natural display

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

This is a really useful scientific calculator, and I'm glad i managed to get my hands on one! It's fairly inexpensive, very easy to use and the natural display helps lay things out well. LOOK: This calculator looks just how a scientific calculator should; sleek and well designed, but with enough funny symbols to make einstein ponder. The natural display is great. You can display fractions and roots, even frequency tables easily on the screen. EASE OF USE: It took me about 15 minutes to master this calculator, so I'd say it's pretty easy to use! The manual is easy to follow as well. It has a ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, large screen, large buttons

    Disadvantages Disadvantages not solar powered

The Casio FX 83 ES is a definite must have for all those taking GCSEs or A levels. Although the Casio FX 83 ES is a little more expensive then most other calculators on sale, the Casio FX 83 ES is capable of everything from the standard addition and subtraction to more complex things like trigonometry and algebra. The case is very slim so the calculator does not take up a lot of space in bags or pockets while at the same time being very durable and able to withstand damage. The Casio FX 83 ES features a natural display that is capable of holding much more data then more normal calculators, as ... more

Advantages Advantages So powerful, easy to use, sleek design

Disadvantages Disadvantages You may be paying for features that you may never use

Casio are the indisputable king of student calculators. Their interface is both simple and powerful. I have been using this model from my Key Stage 3 days up to my current A2 Mathematics days and will continue to use this well into my university years. First off, the design. Its is incredibly thin and sleek even with the cover slid on the back of it. It easily fits into any pencil case or bag and is very lightweight to carry around with you all day. Considering it can be in a bag which is getting constantly moved around for maybe 8 hours every day, it needs to be robust. It definitely is ... more

Advantages Advantages User-friendly, natural display, long-lasting batteries

Disadvantages Disadvantages Probably can be confusing for inexperienced mathematicians

I have now owned the Casio fx-83ES for many years, it's gotten me through my GCSEs, my A-Levels and is still going strong now I'm halfway through my Maths degree! This calculator has all the functions you will need to complete practically any Maths qualification, and plenty more to boot. What really sets it apart from the competition is the natural display, which allows users to see clearly what they are doing, as opposed to other calculators which can get confusing. The memory stores your previous calculations, making certain complicated processes a doddle. The calculator is battery powered ... more
