A student's view

Advantages: so many funtions, makes calculations a lot easier, draw graphs, big screen, large memory
Disadvantages: battery powered, bulky, long instruction manual

...for A-level maths and the casio fx-9750G plus was the one sold through the college. This has been unbelievably useful as with the many functions, it helps with things that would normally take a long time to do by hand. It is a white colour with a green back and sides. The lid is easily taken off and can be put on the back whilst the calculator is in use and the large screen is incredibly useful when looking at graphs. It came packaged in quite a ...
...is quite bulky, most of the box contains the instruction booklet. It is 480 pages long with ALL of it being in english. This meant it was a bit daunting to look at so I only really used it to work out how to put the batteries in. Pressing on will take you to the main menu which has 15 options: 1)run 2) stat 3)MAT 4)list 5)Graph 6)dyna 7) table 8)recur 9) conic 10) equa 11) prgm 12) tvm 13)link 14) cont 15) mem So far we have not used ...

The casio calc

Advantages: Very good quality graphic calculator
Disadvantages: Speed of 'graph' calculations and lots needed to learn to use it

The Casio fx-9750G is the calculator I now use at college. It seems to be the standard calculator to use now at AS and A level, as I know other sixth forms other than my college who now solely sell these to their students. The look and layout : - The Casio fx-9750G is a quite chunky calculator with dimesnsion of 178mm x 89mm x 21mm, as one might expect of a graphic calculator, but it is not unnattractive to the eye. It comes in an assortment of ...
...Manual : - The Casio comes with an incredibly thick manual which is in my opinion simply impossible to read through and let's face it quite depressing. However, it is well layed out, so it is easy to find and learn about a particular partof the calculator you want help with. I'm not sure how good the customer support is as I have never had a problem with my calculator but as Casio is a very well known brand I would expect it at least to be reasonable. ...

A good calculator. But hard to get the hang of

Advantages: Lots of exciting mathsy things to do, cuts the work for your brain
Disadvantages: Quite hard to grasp - esp complicated things

I was loaned the fx-9750G by my school whilst doing my A-Level maths course. It seemed most unfair, as only those doing double maths were allowed one of these beauties. However, I soon realised the reason for this. It takes a super-brain of Further-Maths-A-Level proportions to actually figure out how to work the thing. For starters, there seemed to be about three or four buttons explaining what seemed to be, on a linguistic synonymic level, 'BACK', ...
...I just often hit the off button then started again from scratch. Thank goodness for it's memory! However, with time, I have slowly become acquainted with this 80s-styled beast, and I am the first to admit that the fx-9750G was playing hard-to-get at first ; it's now well worth getting to know it for the rewards. Short of writing the answers to your maths paper, there is nothing this machine cannot do. Solving matrices, finding asymptotes of graphs, ...

Casio FX 9750+

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

If your doing A-Level Statistics or Mathematics, this calculator is a must have. I used it for Statistics and it came in extreamly useful. Particularily, it works out Binomial, Normal and Poisson Distributions for you. Also the table function is quite handy, meaning if you need to work out several distributions, this calculator can do it for you. The calculator is also very robust and durable. I have dropped it seferal times and the worst case scenario ...
...the calculator is also very good. Ive been using mine for a year and a half and i havent had to take them out. The calculator takes 4 triple A batteries. Theres really nothing to complain about. It does exactly what it says on the tin. A possible annoyance with the calculator is that it is quite fiddely. It can take you a bit of time to find the functions you want. However, apart from that its brilliant! 5/5 Oh and the instructions manual is HUGE! ...

Highly recommended

Advantages: Large number of functions, programming, equation solver
Disadvantages: Looks

While this calculator may not exactly resemble the apple iPhone from an aesthetics point of view, it is an extremely functional device. This calculator handles everything needed for A Level Further Maths, with built in matrices, complex numbers and calculus functions. I particularly found the table function useful, which lets you apply a function to a long list of values very quickly, saving on time when plotting graphs. It even has an equation ...
...a bit of time getting used to, the interface soon becomes intuitive. Also useful for advanced maths is the powerful programming function, which lets you write anything from projectile calculations to simple games. Its communication port lets you share these with other users, and it's even possible to build your own cable from simple maplins parts. ...

...The best part of it is adding the appropriate function and it drawas the graph. Sooo easy. Very useful and would reccomend it to any potential buyer. One of the best of its kind. However, i have heard rumours that Casio are stopping their production. Im not really sure though. ...
