Advantages Advantages A wonderful, heart-warming story.

A Place Called Here by Cecelia Ahern. This is one of my favourite books to read. The idea behind it and how the story is told is simply stunning. Like many of Cecelia Ahern’s books it will make you laugh, cry and leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It is a book of hope, love and it displays all of the best qualities of man-kind. I have read this book 3 times and I still can’t get enough of it. It is a captivating tale of magic and mystery which restores the faith that love lasts forever. The book tells the magical story of Sandy Shortt who is obsessed with finding missing things. Her ... more

Cecelia A’Hurn – A Place Called Here This is one book I really could not wait to hit the shelves and I was waiting for its release date for quite a while. Having read ever one of Cecelia A’Hurn other books and enjoyed them thoroughly I really was dying to get my hands on this one and turn each page with the enthusiasm as I had her previous books. In this book we are able to meet some great characters including the most important one of which is Sandy Shortt a young girl who cannot miss place a thing without a fall scale search taking place to find it. No matter how hard she tries not to loose ... more

Advantages Advantages interesting, well written, like a grown up fairytale

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I have started reading approximately five or six different books in the last month and just not been able to 'get into' any of them. Yesterday I wandered into a charity shop and saw two Cecelia Ahern books I hadn't yet read. I'd already read 'Thanks for the memories' and 'Where Rainbows End' and really liked both as well as finding them both incredibly easy to read, so although I hadn't planned on buying any more books, I bought them. I started with 'A Place called Here' as I had already read the blurb on Amazon and it sounded really intriguing. ~The Plot~ The story focuses on Sandy Shortt, a ... more

Advantages Advantages can't put the book down

Disadvantages Disadvantages Family might miss having tea while you read it

I love Cecelia Ahern's books, they are modern, humorous as well as serious. When I read on Amazon that she was bringing out a new book I had to read it, and I must say I haven't been disappointed! A place called here is a fantastic read. THE BOOK A place called here is a story about Sandy Shortt, a 6ft 1" missing person locater. When Sandy was 10 years old a classmate of her's Jenny-May Butler went missing. As all childhood enemies do; Sandy wished she would disappear, then being the last person to see her alive makes Sandy feel guilty, as though it's her fault. Twenty years later Sandy has a ... more

I am sure that all of us have seen posters of missing persons or adverts in newspapers; not to mention hearing about Madeleine McCain's case (this little girl went missing when her parents went out for dinner whilst on holiday in Portugal). Have you ever wondered where all these people went? Have you ever thought where all your odd socks go when you cannot find them? Sandy Shortt (her surname is a complete paradox as Sandy is quite a tall lady) has been obsessed with finding missing items and people since she was a child and her neighbour, Jenny-May Butler disappeared. You may think that Jenny ... more

    Advantages Advantages An intresting therory

Disadvantages Disadvantages Couldn't warm to the main character

I am slowly working my way through the books that I buy but never read, I had picked this one up a few times and started to read it but seemed to lose interest after a few pages. But after being unwell and home from work a few days ago I decided to make a good effort at actually finishing it in peace and quiet as the kids were at school. This is the 4th book by Cecelia Ahern who currently lives in Dublin. Her father is none other than Bertie Ahern the Irish prime minister and her sister is married to Nicky Byrne of West life. Her first book P.S I love you reached no1 in 4 countries and stayed ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice story, lots of surprises

Disadvantages Disadvantages You need to use your imagination, its not a realistic story

Cecelia Ahern is a best-selling Irish novelist and author of many novels including PS I Love You which was recently made into a film. A Place Called Here is her fourth novel. It tells the story of Sandy Shortt, who at 6ft 1 is anything but short. Sandy is obsessed by finding things that are lost whether it be socks or people. This obsession has stemmed from childhood when a girl in her class Jenny-May Butler disappeared and Sandy was left wondering where do things and people go when they get lost. As Sandy grew up this never left her and she devoted her life to looking for missing people ... more

Advantages Advantages easy read, unique storyline, likeable characters, chick-lit and more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages couldn't find any!

Wow! Yet another feel good story from Cecilia Ahern, that had me hooked from page one! As always, Ahern creates likeable and realistic characters to keep her reader enthralled, alongside a unique and heart-warming story, with just a touch of the well-known Ahern fairytale theme. A Place Called Here tells the story of Sandy Shortt, whose life is taken over by her obsessive compulsive need to find anything and anyone that goes missing. The story begins with Sandy herself going missing and tells her story through flashback alongside details of her current situation in a place called Here. Sandy's ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

    Disadvantages Disadvantages unbelievable, boring

I had been promised a loan of PS I Love You and had heard lots of good things....so when deciding what to choose for my latest holiday ready I fell quite easily into selecting a Celcelia Ahern. Having now read PS I Love you and finding it superb, this book seems almost to be written by another author. I found it very strange, it did not flow very well and all in all I felt it was a bit of a dull read. The odd spark of humour is dotted here and there, and you do feel a small connection to the character Sandy Shortt, but that is about all. I do aknowledge that Cecelia's style can be 'fairy tale' ... more

3 Stars Quick review of A place Called Here - Cecelia Ahern by Janette72 08/09/2007
Great idea for a story, but doesn't quite manage to fulfill expectations. I couldn't warm to Sandy, I found the plot far too slow and despite much admiration for this author' previous work, this was a disappointment.
