Cerazette is a hormonal contraceptive which is a pat of the progestogen only pill (commonly known as the mini pill). So there for warned you all at the beginning that this WILL mention periods, mucus membranes, vaginitis and more so can’t say I didn’t tell ya!! ** How it works?** The active ingredient of Cerazette is desogestrel which is a synthetic progestogen that is very similar to the natural progestogen that the body produces. The desogestrel acts in three ways, primarily by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary. It also acts by increasing the thickness of the mucus at the neck ... more

Advantages Advantages no periods, prevents pregnancy, safer than some , rarely affected by antibiotics

Disadvantages Disadvantages frequent side effects, risks of cancer, irregular/random periods

Cerazette is a mini pill, meaning it is progestogen only, and it works in three ways: Firstly, it prevents the release of an egg from the ovaries. Secondly, it thickens the mucus at the neck of the womb, making it harder for the sperm to enter. And thirdly, it changes the quality of the womb lining to prevent a fertilised egg implanting in the lining. - - - I was previously on microgynon-30, and had been for about 2 and a half years when I began suffering from horrific migraines. As soon as I informed my doctor I was taken off of these tablets (as it could cause a stroke) and put straight on ... more

Advantages Advantages Work well for some

    Disadvantages Disadvantages I fell pregnant

How do they work? The mini pill is a form of contraception that works in 3 ways it increases the natural mucus on the neck of the womb making it more difficult for sperm to break through and this meaning it is less likely for fertilisation to take place. It also works to prevent ovulation and to decrease quality of the womb lining so preventing any fertilised eggs to attach o the womb meaning no pregnancy. To begin taking the pill you wait until your period begins and then take the first pill the first day of your cycle up to the 5th day and this begins the routine. This will begin to work ... more

Advantages Advantages You can take the pill with malaria tablets and I didn't get pregnant!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Shall I start with the mood swings or with the constant bleeding?

I took the contaceptive pill known as 'Cerazette' for around two months back in 2002 and it successfully managed to ruin parts of a perfectly good trip around South East Asia..... You might say that I am a little bitter about this to say the least so be warned. ***About Cerazette*** Cerazette (manufactured by Organon) is a prescription hormonal contraceptive commonly known as the 'mini pill' or progestogen-only pill and it contains the active ingredient 'desogestrel' which is a synthetic progestogen (which helps to control a women's natural cycle). Desogestrel works in three ways. Firstly it ... more

Advantages Advantages You can take it very soon after having a child and if you've got high blood pressure

Disadvantages Disadvantages Irregular bleeding (only light though)

What is Cerazette: Cezarette is a hormonal contraceptive called a "POP" (progestrogen only pill) also commonly known as "the mini pill". How it works: Cerazette contains ingredients which stop the ovaries from releasing an egg but also works by thickening the mucus at the neck of the womb, this stops sperm being able to enter the womb this means that if by chance any eggs are released from the ovaries then it's hard for sperm to get through to the womb to fertilize them. How it should be taken: If you have previously taken the combined pill (COC) then take note. When taking the mini pill you ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to take, works for me

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me

I have two kids and at the moment that is enough for me, who knows what the future holds but for now my husband and I need to take some form of protection when we have sex in order for me to not become pregnant again. As we are married and both faithful we do not use condoms anymore as we do not really see the need for them so I take the pill in order to prevent pregnancy. For the last couple of years I have taken Cerazette on advice from my doctor. Quite a few years ago now I had a DVT (blood clot) in my right leg and even though I am not predisposed to having anymore I still cannot take a ... more

Advantages Advantages 12 hour window, Lowered blood pressure, No period pains

Disadvantages Disadvantages Irregular Periods, Skin Changes

Gosh, where to start! I think it's clear from reading the reviews on this pill that it effects people in different ways. I was put onto cerazette 9 months ago after getting high blood pressure when I went onto a combined pill (marvelon), which is a common reason for women to be put onto progesterone-only pills. When I was told I was over the moon, my close friend has been on the pill for a number of years and has never had a period! Unfortunately this hasn't been the case for me. My periods have been irregular and I have often had 2 in a month. I have been known to have periods that have ... more

Advantages Advantages 12 hour missed pill wndow, beneficial for those sensitive to estrogen

    Disadvantages Disadvantages some irregular bleeding

BEFORE CERAZETTE I suffered badly with combined pills Cilleste and Yasmin, Yasmin being the worst. I suffer from a thyroid disorder and this causes my cycles to be terribly irregular anywhere from 25 - 37 days apart. Also I will add that I do not suffer badly from PMS/PMT, generally only a few pimples and some tummy bloating and cramping. Yasmin caused me to have periods every 2 weeks, awful acne which spread to my chest, swollen breasts (which I had been lucky enough to have never suffered), weight gain (3 or 4 pounds that were impossible to shift) and I turned into Genghis Khan. I came of ... more

Advantages Advantages Suitable for women who can't take oestrogen; 12-hour window; may help PMS

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bushels of side-effects, irregular bleeding

I should start by stating that I was not on Cerazette for contraception; I already have a copper IUD in place for that. My gynaecologist prescribed Cerazette as a treatment for PMS, and I was on it for just under 3 months. It is possible that the side-effects would have improved if I'd kept on it after that, but since they were still pretty dreadful and my PMS wasn't much better, there was no point in staying on it. Cerazette is a third-generation progestogen-only pill (POP) which contains 75mcg of the active ingredient, desogestrel. It is therefore suitable for women who cannot take the ... more

I've only been using this pill for 3 weeks and felt I should add my review after searching for my problems on the internet and finding this very useful site with all the reviews. I was previously on Celest (combined pill) and came off it to try for a baby. I decided not to go back on the pill after having my son as I realised that I was a lot less depressed and had fewer mood swings. I was on Celest for 8 years so I guess all the moodiness just became a part of who I thought I was! Now, after 4 years pill-free and happy, I've decided to go back on the pill and was recommended Cerazette (POP) ... more
