***About Cerazette***
Cerazette (manufactured by Organon) is a prescription hormonal contraceptive commonly known as the 'mini pill' or progestogen-only pill and it contains the active ingredient 'desogestrel' which is a synthetic progestogen (which helps to control a women's natural cycle). I had been taking the mini pill 'microgynon' for years and I was perfectly happy. I didn't want to change! However, my partner and I were going travelling!!! 3 months in South East Asia and China. We planned to travel through Cambodia and consequently a course of nasty malaria tablets was on the cards. But as you may have guessed.... malaria tablets ...

...How it works:
Cerazette contains ingredients which stop the ovaries from releasing an egg but also works by thickening the mucus at the neck of the womb, this stops sperm being able to enter the womb this means that if by chance any eggs are released from the ovaries then it's hard for sperm to get through to the womb to fertilize them. I was put onto cerazette 9 months ago after getting high blood pressure when I went onto a combined pill (marvelon), which is a common reason for women to be put onto progesterone-only pills. TAKING CERAZETTE After a year of giving up on oral contraception I read about Cerazette and went straight to my doctor to request it. The doctor agreed that it was likely that I am sensitive to high levels of estrogen and that Cerazette, a progestogen only pill (POP) may be very effective and more successful than my experiences of combined pills. Cerezette is one of the 'mini pills' on offer for those who want to take oral contraceptives. They do not contain any oestrogen, which gives the the acronym POP or Progestogen Only Pill. The POP creates a mucus plug at the entrance to the uterus, which is claimed to be 98% effective at keeping sperm from reaching, and fertilising an egg. The uterus lining is also made thinner, so that if sperm did reach and fertilise an egg, the egg would find it ... ...result in pregnancy. Usually with POPs, women still have a few days each month when they will experience a bleed. Cerezette is different, since it has a higher level of progestogen, which, in most people, prevents ovulation, and therefore results in the user not having a bleed. A further difference between Cerezette and other POPs is that you have a 12 hour window in which to take your pill without losing protection, compared with a 3 hour window ...

Just a quick one to say, that I have been on 'Cerazette' for a year and a half now and things have really changed in my life since then, in a few ways..... I don't know why I never looked up reviews of it before! There have been bouts of depression, paranoia, frequent nasty bouts of thrush, I have found ... ...lightly for 7 days at a time twice a month ; then nothing for up to 2 months....Worst of all (in my opinion anyway) my skin has been disgusting, becoming gradually worse. My face has been an absolute mess for a while, forever coming up in painful spots and black/white heads (which i never used to get) then ...

After suffering a particularly nasty morning of paranoia and tears, I have decided to throw in the towel with this particular pill, which in my opinion has been entirely not worth my efforts. As a frequent social drinker this is extremely bizarre.

As alreday explained, Cerazette is a mini-pill (POP, progesterone only). It contains desogestrel which is a synthetic progestorone. About Cerazette
Cerazette is a progestogen only contraceptive pill. It is unique among progestogen only pills as if you take your pill late you have a 12 hour window as opposed to 3. When used correctly it can be 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.
