Advantages: Very interesting insight into how your dogs mind works Disadvantages: Not many actual methods of training described in the book
When I first started watching Cesar Millan’s Dog Whisperer program on the National Geographic channel I became a bit obsessed with the program. I recorded every episode on my Sky+ Box and have now seen them all. So I am a big fan.
As soon as this book arrived in the post I started to read it that very night. I couldn’t put it down!! Such a great read. It probably helped that I am a big fan of Cesar anyway. But it does give you a great insight into ... ...is a `Dog Psychology’ book, looking at how your dog actually sees the world. Whereas a `Dog Training’ book‘ would look more at teaching your dog commands. Both have there place.
Cesar Millan in a Mexican dog behaviour expert who runs a dog psychology centre in Los Angeles. Cesar makes a lot of sense but so many people seem to think that they are doing the best for their dogs and are deaf to what anybody else tells them. Like he says, dogs are not ...

Advantages: inspiring, interesting, you can learn a lot Disadvantages: you can't hear Cesars great mexican accent
First of all, I have to say that through his TV program, Cesar Millan became a bit of a hero to me. But even if you don't know him yet, you will still enjoy his book, if you keep an open mind and listen to him carefully.
Cesar Millan:
Cesar is a mexican dog psychologist who runs a rehabilitation Centre in Los Angeles. He works with Celebrity dogs as well as problem dogs from shelters. His aprouch is, that he trains people and rehabilitates dogs. ... ...like "dog borstal" or "it's me or the dog". He has a natural talent and a huge love for all creatures, or do you know anyone else who would take 40 dogs into the mountains every day for 4 hours?
the story:
Cesars book starts with telling you about his backround. Where he grow up and how he got to Los Angeles. This is one of my favourite bits. It's a great read and very inspiring to see how this young mexican guy follows his dream. Later the book ...

Advantages: Interesting and well written autobiography Disadvantages: Not really great for actual training
Cesar Millan is a genius, a little freaky maybe but nonetheless, a genius. His approach is totally different to Victoria Stilwell (Me or the Dog) which is the other book I used/use for training. The book starts with his background and training which makes for a good and interesting read in itself. It continues with celeb stories and their infamous dogs and their behavioural problems and how he solved them. The book deals with commonly occuring problems ... ...great read, and at the time of reading, I thought "ooh I'll remember to try that" it's downfall for me is that it's not a training aid it's hard to find the section again when the problem occurs in reality and to be honest I forgot most of what I read once I'd put it away! It's essentially an autobiography and not a training book although the blog implies it'll help with all your behavioural questions. However, some questions are answered in a round-a-bout ...

Advantages: Useful & relatable detail. Checklist. Page References to behavioural aspects. Disadvantages: Not good for those who want a quick fix.
I think that 'Cesar's Way' is a very reliable source for rehabilitating dogs. At first, I thought some parts of the text were irrelevant (because I wanted a quick fix) but as I read and applied his methods I came to understand that they are as important as the tips. The personal stories portray the situation first, allowing the reader to relate in some way, then Millan explains why the dog is acting a certain way. He tells you how to identify the ... ...how to apply it depending on your situation. The emphasis is on how much time the human is willing to put in and when humans choose to live with dogs there is a commitment beyond the animal being a pet. The owner has to understand how their behaviour is affecting their dogs and act accordingly. The one negative point is that it might seem repetitive but I believe that this is only if the owner has not grasped the important concept of the message ...
