Advantages Advantages Very interesting insight into how your dogs mind works

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not many actual methods of training described in the book

When I first started watching Cesar Millan’s Dog Whisperer program on the National Geographic channel I became a bit obsessed with the program. I recorded every episode on my Sky+ Box and have now seen them all. So I am a big fan. As soon as this book arrived in the post I started to read it that very night. I couldn’t put it down!! Such a great read. It probably helped that I am a big fan of Cesar anyway. But it does give you a great insight into how your dog sees the world and you. This is a `Dog Psychology’ book, looking at how your dog actually sees the world. Whereas a `Dog Training’ ... more

Advantages Advantages inspiring, interesting, you can learn a lot

Disadvantages Disadvantages you can't hear Cesars great mexican accent

First of all, I have to say that through his TV program, Cesar Millan became a bit of a hero to me. But even if you don't know him yet, you will still enjoy his book, if you keep an open mind and listen to him carefully. Cesar Millan: Cesar is a mexican dog psychologist who runs a rehabilitation Centre in Los Angeles. He works with Celebrity dogs as well as problem dogs from shelters. His aprouch is, that he trains people and rehabilitates dogs. This is what makes him stand out from other programms like "dog borstal" or "it's me or the dog". He has a natural talent and a huge love for all ... more

Advantages Advantages Interesting and well written autobiography

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not really great for actual training

Cesar Millan is a genius, a little freaky maybe but nonetheless, a genius. His approach is totally different to Victoria Stilwell (Me or the Dog) which is the other book I used/use for training. The book starts with his background and training which makes for a good and interesting read in itself. It continues with celeb stories and their infamous dogs and their behavioural problems and how he solved them. The book deals with commonly occuring problems that many owners experience. Although, this is a great read, and at the time of reading, I thought "ooh I'll remember to try that" it's ... more

Advantages Advantages Useful & relatable detail. Checklist. Page References to behavioural aspects.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not good for those who want a quick fix.

I think that 'Cesar's Way' is a very reliable source for rehabilitating dogs. At first, I thought some parts of the text were irrelevant (because I wanted a quick fix) but as I read and applied his methods I came to understand that they are as important as the tips. The personal stories portray the situation first, allowing the reader to relate in some way, then Millan explains why the dog is acting a certain way. He tells you how to identify the problem, consider your options of dealing with it and then how to apply it depending on your situation. The emphasis is on how much time the human is ... more
