Advantages: More challenging, more leagues, more control, extra realism and accuracy Disadvantages: Highly Addictive, initial bugs in the game
...have played every version of Championship Manager there ever was. Every game was a stepping-stone for the next and CM4 was no exception. I purchased the game from Virgin Megastores for £19.99 in September 2003. Championship Manager 4 (CM4) had a lot of advertising “hype” around its 2003 release. Makers of the game promised an early release, but then failed to meet the deadline. Thus, the game was released in a hurry, with a lot of bugs/errors.

The makers of Championship Manager (EEDIOS/SIGames) offer excellent technical support through their websites and other links.
Bug fixes: -
As I mentioned earlier, this game does come with a lot of bugs/errors. The good news is that you can download files from the internet to fix all of these errors – what’s more – you can even upgrade the version of CM4 including new player transfers.
I have downloaded many files to upgrade my game ...

...read many games reviews on Championship Manager and all have rated the game highly. It deserves all the praise it has received. ~THE GAME~
Eidos describes the game as ‘The Most Important Game Of Your Life’. Well, yes that’s true but I believe the phrase ‘The most addictive game of your life’ would be a more accurate connection to the game. Do I really need to describe the objectives of the game? Every football fan knows what the game is all about, ... ...to the next section).
Championship Manager 4 is a very realistic football management game. You manage a team of your choice, for many that will be the team you support (That’s Chelsea for me). You have a choice of teams from 39 national leagues. Once you’ve chosen your team you are presented with your squad at which point you should examine thoroughly and decide if you need to make any transfers. Available transfer funds can be limited for some ...

...the first few instalments of championship manager you will already know how good a game it actually is. As far as in-depth management games go you cannot get better than championship manager for realism and enjoyment.

For Championship manager old boys to navigate around “Championship manager 4” is only slightly different in the way it is set out, but in fact it will take you seconds to know where to look for everything. For the newcomers you will think oh my god what do I do now. I would strongly advise to spend over an hour just looking at the different menus and playing with it to navigate your way around. I'm running the game on a P3 1.3Ghz, Windows 98, 128 MB RAM. If I'd written this review shortly after I installed CM4 (not long after release) then the review would contain nothing but compliments. The transfer market is incredibly realistic which means little money available for most clubs and very strict wage structures. Added to that is more realism from computer-controlled clubs. No more selling their players to you for stupidly low prices. You may see a player you want, his stats are amazing, you want him. His value is a very reasonable £1.5m. But when you enquire about him the club ...

Seeing as how it is some two months since Championship Manager 4 was released I thought I would take stock of the situation and pen a review. For those that don’t know what Championship Manager (ChampMan as I will doubtless lazily start referring to it during this piece) is, I shall endeavour to explain. Basically it is a state-of-the-art, football ... ...The all-singing, all-dancing, ChampMan4.
Championship Manager first entered my consciousness back in about 1992. For many years my knackered old 386 IBM (which was state of the art then) used to crawl along playing the most brilliantly simplistic, yet thorough football game I’d ever played. At the time no one I knew of played the game…in fact no one had even heard of it. It was like being a Mormon; you think you are on to a brilliant thing but no ...

...Like any of the Championship Manager Series, CM4 takes a while to get into, and the change from the CM3 engine takes a while to get used to, but as I havent't been playing it long I'll probably edit this opinion a bit later - a lot depends on whether I can maintain my early season form and secure promotion from Div 3 for the Jack Army! If you don't own one (if not why?), then it's probably worth buying (download the updates as soon as you install it though), but if you have CM 01-02 though, I recommend getting the 02-03 update off the net and waiting until the bugs in CM4 are fixed, or the 03-04 version is released (if this is going to happen) - I've always found the sequel versions of a CM engine to be the definitive ones - CM 97-98 ...

One huge problem for alot of people with this game will be the system requirements. It requires about 600MB hard drive space, which isn't too bad. It also requires a 600MHz process with at least a 1GHz recommended. In addition it recommends 256MB RAM and decent sound/graphics capabilities. This is a really high spec and will rule out some people already.

The Championship Manager Saga goes back a long way. A long, long way. To those who are unfamiliar let me begin way back on the Amiga, where many a long hour was spent playing the original from Domark (now published by Eidos).
