When Chrysler launched the PT Cruiser six years ago I was among the crowd who went: "Wow!" Put simply, I thought it was perhaps the single bravest move an automobile company had made in many years.
The concept of taking an old Hot Rod style vehicle and turning it in to an every day usable vehicle was intriguing and the retro styling, inside and out, was definitely an attraction to me, and to many other road users.

Advantages: fantastic looking, reliable and good performance Disadvantages: not the easiest to park

The 2.2l model we opted for retails for around £18999, and as a company car makes for a monthly tax-hit of around £110/month at 40% (comparable to a big Mondeo and slightly cheaper than the new Mazda6 we quite fancied). ...CRUISER. The brainchild of the Chrysler corporation was born in the year 2000. It has a styling that is part Retro and part Modern, the retro styling taken from the designs of the 1930's with a stand up front grill and rounded wings bulging from the front and rear of the car. The retro has been carried on into the interior to enhance the overall effect.
Many people stop and stare at the car and pass many different comments about it, some love it, ... ...PT, there are small touches Chrysler have incorporated to help you cruise. With the likes of cup holders for the the front and rear passengers, power outlets in the centre consol and rear load area, for mobile phones or tyre inflaters. Illuminated vanity mirrors for the front passenger and driver. (how he'll manage to put his lippy on while driving - I'll never know)

...New England I rented a Chrysler PT cruiser for two weeks & clocked up more than 1000 miles, it gave me a good opportunity to assess the vehicle for this review.
As you will see with the pictures of the actual vehicle it is a modern interpretation of a 1930s American hot rod & Chrysler have done rather a good job. The low front & high rear ends with slab sides mimics the old hot rods as does the pointed bonnet line & front wing styles. The retro ... ...spell working at a UK Chrysler dealer I remember their vehicles as being pretty reliable with only the electrics giving some minor troubles.
Would I buy one or recommend one? Although I think Chrysler have done a great job recreating the '1930s hot rod' look on this car, for me its now become a little dated looking but I was impressed overall with the car in the two weeks I had it & wouldn't want to put anyone off at least driving one so that you ...

...provide more - why didn't Chrysler leave the 2.4 engine from the US model in? Perhaps the idea is to discourage you from driving at high speeds - the wind noise really ramps up after 75mph - good job that the sound system is up to the job! Overall though, if you love the looks and don't want to go racing, get one! ...

Advantages: Fun, fun, fun and performs well too Disadvantages: Not much except a little small
Whenever I get into this car I get transported back to the 30’s in my mind. It is the cutest car I have ever seen, but don’t be fooled, it’s a great little car. We laughingly call it the "Gangsta Car".
We got the limited edition which has the larger wheels and a sunroof. The inside is leather and suede. We purchased this car in Marchof 2001. Now there is a much sportier edition called the Touring Edition.
The 2.4 liter engine ... ...the way fast. It performs very well on the freeway. My husband likes the way it handles and how he can get in and out of small places.
The back has childlproof doorlocks, and the window controls are on the dash. This added feature is great especially if your have children that like to play with the buttons on the door..
The sound system is excellent. Our car has a CD player and a cassette player with six speakers.

...test drive in the New Chrysler PT CRUISER and enjoyed it so much that I just had to write and tell you about it!
Having owned both a 2.0l Neon and a 2.0l Voyager in the past, I thought I knew what to expect from Chryslers 2 litre engine - Was I wrong! The engine in the new PT Cruiser is uprated and it has transformed the performance. The Cruiser is now on a par with performance figures for the XR3i.
Driving this car through a town centre on a saturday ... ...cross between a 30s gangster car and someones customised special this family saloon really excels.
Chromed alloy wheels, Cruise control, Aircon, Traction control, leather, Cd, Thatcham Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser are just some of the features of the top "Limited" model.
In the market for a different family saloon - GO TAKE A LOOK ...

...same as the one on Chrysler Cirrus) is a 4cyl 2.4liter that can punch 150HP. Not quite fast, but this is hardly a racer. It’s merely a cruiser, as the name blatantly outputs. The fact that its also considered a 'truck' makes it one of the most fuel efficient trucks around; we are talking about 20 city and 26 highway. However, that is not to say the PT is not a fun to drive car. As a matter of fact, just sitting at the front seats will make you giggle ... ...Beetle, but the PT's seats are placed a lot higher. You almost get the feeling of driving an SUV, with the high top and a great view of the road all around. The interior is filled with a lot of mumbo jumbo, but suffice it to say that almost everything inside has been built with the thought that it all needs to be folded. The cargo space of the PT is amazing.
With the Prowler costing an eye and a leg (without deserving it in my humble opinion) one ...

This car came out and took the US by storm and now it is invading Britain. It is one of the nicest cars on the road and will get you noticed. It is a real poser s car. However on the other hand, it is reasonably cheap, very practical for it's relative size and full of features like most Chryslers. It is an excellent car for any small to medium sized family. The price is reasonable and is going down along with most car prices. As with all Chryslers, ... ...extra cost. You name it and it will probably be in this vehicle. i used to think the best car of the year would be the new Bug but the PT Cruiser has taken the looks of the Beetle and added some practically. Not an only car for a big family but this gives a smooth journey for a medium family. This is a real eye-catcher but be warned, do not buy black as people will get confused with a hearse or London cab. ...

We thought this looked trendy and loved the retro styling but within one month of owning the car we were wishing we had our old Ford back again. The cruiser is certainly spacious, seats five and lots of luggage easily, it has lots of unusual features like the table / shelf in the boot that fits in about 5 different positions to give five varying storage areas depending what you want to fit in. The front passenger seat will go completely flats as ... ...a certain position it will give a clear, level space from the front of the car to the back, ideal for huge pieces of wood from B&Q! On the down side it is so expensive to run, we had the 2 litre version which did about 30 mpg around town and a bit more on a long run. Add to this the service interval of 7000 miles which can mean two services per year and the cost of the servicing at a main dealer which is essential if you want to keep the warranty. ...

...2.0L Classic from our local Chrysler dealer.
My first impressions of the car were "Awsome looks, and extremely Stylish". The drive was pleasant enough and I was impressed enough to buy it.
I managed to haggle the dealership for a £2000 discount off the floor price, and drove it away.
I spent a considerable amount of time diving, and found that I never suffered any back ache or uncomfortable driving etc. Having an almost arm chair seating position ... ...a fast driver, and started noticing my fuel bills climbing sky high. If you drive at a snail's pace, the car produces the advertised MPG, but floor it a little and be lucky to get 275 miles per tank of 50 litres!
I also found the indicator stalks most annoying, for the simple reason that they don't stay on going around a roundabout, the slightest movement of the steering re-sets the indicator to the off position.
Be carefull of what fuel you use. ...

...the opening of the new Chrysler PT Cruiser the other day I was amazed. I have never seen a car that incorporates all the wealth from some of the world best cars all into one little box with four wheels. After walking in the door I realised how special this car was. It may have only a 2.0 ltr engine under the bonnet but would you drive a tin can if it had a 3.0 ltr engine in it??? I think not. Nowadays we strive to find a car that makes ourselvs feel ... ...turning heads. Every bit of a persons desires are incorporated in the PT Cruiser. Before my parents owned a Neon and a Grand Cherokee. I was not to impressed with either but this car has impressed me to the limit. Every thing from the beautiful front down to the small things like the cup holders have been thought about in this car. Some people dont like the back as they feel it is "like a London Taxi" but what they dont realise is that it was designed ...

I owned a diesel PT Cruiser for almost three years until very recently and loved the so-called 'retro styling' that never failed to turn heads. I was also impressed, if slightly embarrassed, at how other PT owners never failed to flash their lights at and wave at me.
The reliability was great and I did not experience any problems in that area at all.
Economy was average for a diesel, however, at around 35 mpg.
The equipment level was high and ... ...cheap car to buy, though as always seems to be the case when I buy anything, the price was cut dramatically right after I bought it, which was annoying.
There is plenty of room in the front, but the rear is not really designed for more than two passengers.
Thinking back, the only real gripe I had with the car was the terrible steering lock, which is downright dangerous. Many times I tried to pull into a parking space only to fail where a much larger ...

I have just been a test drive in Chrysler's latest wonder - the PT Cruiser. It is a dream! We only drove it for 5 miles and I cannot tell you how many people turned their head in awe.
