    Advantages Advantages No babies!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lots of side-effects for me

I’ve been on Cilest twice now, once when I was a lot younger, mainly to help with painful periods, and once more recently, mainly for contraceptive purposes. Both times I changed to a different pill after about a year – the first time I didn’t get on with the alternative pill, so came off it altogether, but this time I am hoping that the alternative (which I am about to start taking next week) will be an improvement. Anyway, having finished my last packet of Cilest at the end of last week, I thought I’d write an opinion about my experiences. Cilest is one of the range ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages No side effects, easy and simple form of contraception

Disadvantages Disadvantages Larger pills than other brands

After suffering numerous difficulties on Microgynon, I decided to opt for another pill to see if that solved any of the side effects that I appeared to be suffering from. I visited my G.P to discuss the problems that I had been having, namely depression and the fact that I now had a protruding stomach making me look 3 month pregnant! She suggested that I change to Cilest and see if that worked any better for me. ~*~What is Cilest~*~ This is a combined oral contraceptive otherwise known as "The Pill". Containing a combination of Ethinylestradiol and norgestimate which are synthetic versions of ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent cycle control, slightly clearer skin after a few months, effective contraception

Disadvantages Disadvantages The usual pill-related side effects that go away after 3-6 packs

Cilest oral contraceptive: This pill is contains Ethinylestradiol 35 micrograms and norgestimate 250 micrograms (an oestrogen and a progestogen). It is quite anti-androgenic, and in the U.S. is prescribed as an acne/PCOS treatment (called Ortho-Cyclen), in fact it is the only pill recommended for that. Over here it is recommended for contraception, Endometriosis and menstrual disorders such as painful periods (dysmenorrhoea), heavy periods (menorrhagia), irregular periods, continuous, heavy menstrual bleeding or premenstrual tension. It comes in packs of 21 pills, which you take on a daily ... more

Advantages Advantages No side-effects and it works!

Disadvantages Disadvantages You have to remember to take it...

I’ve heard so many stories about people going on the contraceptive pill and gaining weight, getting acne, getting moody, that I was very reluctant about doing it myself. In fact when the doctor lists the possible side effects it is positively terrifying! However I have found no significant side effects from Cilest. Though I ate everything in sight during the first couple of weeks, I have actually lost weight whilst being on the pill and have noticed no changes to my skin. You can get Cilest prescribed by your GP or given to you by a family planning clinic and you will find both recommend ... more

Advantages Advantages unprotected safe sex, lighter periods.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Weight gain, doesn't protect from STD's

Cilest is one of many combined pill's available to women through prescription from their GP free of charge. You can either go to your local GP or family planning centre who will assess you and your family's medical history to see if you will be able to take the pill safely. It contains both oestrogen and progesterone hormones. When you take the pill, it releases these hormones and prevents ovulation. It is 99% effective against unwanted pregnancy. You take Cilest for 21 days and then break for 7 days. During these 7 days bleeding occurs and unprotected sexual intercourse may still take place ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to remember when to take, 98 percent effective

Disadvantages Disadvantages can have unpleasant side effects

OK, this is a completely rewritten op - I'm going back and changing my first ops to (hopefully) get higher ratings and provide more information! After entering into my current relationship, my partner and I decided that using a contraceptive pill would be a good idea. When visiting my doctor to discuss the matter, he took my blood pressure (no problem there) and asked about my general health (fine) to ascertain what type of pill, if any, would be suitable for me. In calculating this, he also asked if I was a smoker, and when I replied that I smoked around 10 cigarettes a day, he told me that ... more

Advantages Advantages not pregnant, was okay at first

Disadvantages Disadvantages spotting, sore breasts, lightheadedness, rashes, extreme anxiety, depression, ocd, panic attacks

I had a really bad time on Cileste. At first I only had some physical symptoms I noticed, loads of spotting and irregular periods, rashes, dizziness, some symptoms emotionally but not too bad, and didn't connect these to Cilest. I have been taking it about a year, maybe a bit less, maybe a bit more. However a couple of months ago I ran two packs together for a holiday and got constant bleeding, and my emotions got worse the longer I took it. I had EXTREME anxiety including full-blown panic attacks, depression, horrible uncontrollable thoughts and emotions, I felt like I was constantly ... more

Advantages Advantages Less emotional, regular periods, good contraceptive, clear skin

Disadvantages Disadvantages thirst, tiredness, weird appetite, snappy, irritable

I was on Cilest for almost a year, but have recently stopped taking it for a month to see if I'm any better without it. Since stopping I have been very emotional - tearful - though this could be more to do with other things, I don't know. I didn't really notice the side effects until I thought about how I was feeling lately etc. On this pill...I was experiencing tiredness, moreso than usual. I felt dehydrated a lot of the time and was drinking far more than I used to drink. I felt bloated and was experiencing trapped wind/related problems...which could be put down to my diet, though I've not ... more

Advantages Advantages No bleeding! Increase in libido, bigger boobs, no more mood swings, much happier!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slight nausea at first, breakthrough bleeding after running a few packs together.

First of all - a bit of background. I have tried several different pills over the years. Firstly was Microgynon which led to three months of constant bleeding, headaches and PMT. Next was Yasmin - two months constant bleeding which led to anaemia. After this I went off pills for a couple of years. Four months ago I was put on cilest. Apparantly it is slightly higher in oestrogen which decreases the chances of breakthrough bleeding. This was true for me. I have had none whatsoever which after my troubles before was fantastic! I, like most people reading this review probably, had read horror ... more

hi, i was taking microgygon 30 for 4 years. one day i started bleeding very heavilly and i passed a large lump of what seemed like flesh when i was bleeding. i wasnt pregnant but i was in alot of pain. i was reffered to a gynae ward and examined. the lump i passed was sent to pathology and it came back that is was a piece of my endometrium. this was because of the pill i was on as it was too strong for my body and too many hormones in it. this pill had also made me gain about one stone in weight. the doctor (in the hospital)changed my pill to cilest, and after taking it for 4months properlly ... more
