Great service

Advantages: free £500 overdraft, able to draw money from all ATMs without charge, free internet banking
Disadvantages: no high street presence apart from London

I opend an account with Citibank about five years ago and since then I havent even thought about moving the account elsewhere. I previously had current account with Natwest and then Barclays and I had to close both the accounts within few months. I went to the Citibank branch in Oxford street with all my details (passport, salary bills and so on ) and my account was opened straight away and made use of the free foreign currency service just prior ...
...the additional service offered by citibank is something known as "personal reserve" . If you are eligible you are offered a personal reserve of about few thousand pounds and you can transfer the money to the current account at times of need and then pay back when you can afford. The interest is charged daily and also they take out a minimum amount everymonth to pay towards the personal reserve.I found this useful when I need extra cash just for a ...

Much better than high street banks

Advantages: Free cash machines, free overdraft, freefone telephone banking
Disadvantages: No branches

I changed to Citibank about a year and a half ago having got fed up with the charges being levied by my prior bank. * The internet service is excellent. * You get free telephone banking (with a freefone number). * You can use nearly every cash machine available (including abroad) free of charge. I have yet to find a cash machine that I have not been able to use. * You get a free £400 overdraft. * You get a free US dollar saving account, should ...

Citibank made my life a lot easier in India

Advantages: Online Banking, Great customer service
Disadvantages: Nothing as far as I know

...the other hand == But Citibank in India made my life very easy. I do not have to go to the bank unless really required in cases like to apply for a new debit card since you have lost one. Even the opening of an account is so simple and secure because, one of my friend at work wanted to open an account with citibank and requested our HR to contact them on this regard. Surprisingly, an executive from citibank came to our office with all the forms ...
...just get an account. But citibank is awesome in its service. ==Credit Cards== And also the credit cards citibank offers has great value for your money. You have cash back offers, few have discounts on purchase after certain amount. ==Redeem Awards== For people like me who depend mostly on online banking, they even have something called reward points. If our points exceed certain limit, we can redeem them by selecting the prize we want. And I ...

I Like It

Advantages: Services
Disadvantages: Lack of branches

...world. If you are in other country, you will still being serve as a citibank priority customer in any country. Imagine yourself carrying a Citibank cash card or credit card, you will immediately be rcognised by the merchants. I experienced this before. This make you fell confident when travelling overseas. ...

Great products, but you 'pay' for the customer servce.

Advantages: Well known global bank, Good products.
Disadvantages: Lousy call return rate.

Citibank are the only bank I know of to offer an interest and fee free £500 overdraft in the UK. Other products are as good, travel fx, Libor mortgages, etc It has the added advantage of being truely worldwide eg phone banking from the many countries they serve is free and in your home language. There used to be a low income criteria (£20k = UK national average wage)for becoming a member but it was removed, I don't think I came back through the ...
...overdraft. I would recomend Citibank to those are regular finance board visitors eg. fool.co.uk or citiwire.co.uk and probably have their own relatively active broking account (ie. 2-3 transactions per year). If you need too much hand holding and don't take advantage of the Net banking then this may not be for you. In my experience if your average transaction item (mean not mode) is greater than the £100 no-bounce-zone you get from other banks then ...

Polite but frustrating to deal with

Advantages: Polite staff, clear statements, easy to contact via phone
Disadvantages: poor customer service, staff often seem out of their depth

...has been relatively smooth, but Citibank has proved much more frustrating to deal with. Although Citibank's strengths apparently lie in telephone and internet banking, they also have a small number of branches in London. I have visited the branches in Hanover Square and St Paul's a number of times and the staff have all been very polite and try to help but often seem out of their depth in dealing with both myself and other customers and have to find ...
...not true. Written correspondence with Citibank tends to produce confusing letters in reply coupled with small irritations. For example, they addressed a letter to my wife because her name was below mine on a Council Tax Bill I provided as proof of residence, and they asked me to complete a form that they failed to enclose with the letter. I'm sure that one day we will get everything sorted out and I will learn to love Citibank, but until then only ...

Very good and flexible

Advantages: available worldwide
Disadvantages: marketing and mortgage department

I have used Citibank for both my private and my company(not available now) accounts for a number of years. I travel all over the world with my job, and can use my cash card anywhere I go as it has all the links that you want on it. In addittion the card doubles as a debit card, and a credit card abroad. There are very few branches, but you can use Lloyds TSB to pay in any cash/cheques. Most banking is done over the phone, which is freephone and very ...
...internet connections - but I have not used them for a couple of years as they were then very complex/awkard. Perhaps they have improved now. The marketing departartment can be a bit enthusiastic somethimes and the mortgage department, I found downright rude - so went elsewhere. The best bit is that you get a very good rate of interest and free banking on your posative balance!! ...

Putting british banks to shame

Advantages: Friendly, courteous service
Disadvantages: Not too many branches around

I moved to Citibank about 2 years ago now and have never had a single cause to complain about there service (both attitude and level of). Compared to my old British bank who seem to take their customers for granted and charge them for the privilage, it's a refreshing change to be treated like you matter. Their internet banking service, whilst I must admist is not the most sophisticated and all embracing that I've seen, it does everything I want ...

Disenchanted through badly managed outsourcing

Advantages: Global reach, good internet access
Disadvantages: Customer Service

...to be a fan of Citibank - a big fan. I have four accounts with Citibank in three different countries. I used to rave to friends about them: - free ATM access - no account charges - ability to transfer money internationally without charge - good internet access No more. I have turned from apostle to terrorist, from Paulus to Saulus. I have not yet moved my accounts because of the hassle involved - but I want to warn others. What turned me was ...
...inability to make good on a mistake. I was erroneously charged £20 for an overdraft extension, which I did not want. Fair enough, a mistake can happen. But since then, I have called 6 times to a customer service center in India, staffed by Indian women improbably called "Linda", "Victoria" etc, who do not have any authority to make decisions. Numerous times I have been told that a "priority request has been launched" and that the mistake would be ...

Which Citi Do You Like *Updated*

Advantages: Worldwide; Large Bank; Phone Banking
Disadvantages: Limited UK Branches; Poor Personal Contact

...I have just down rated Citibank to 'Poor' and can no longer recommend this bank to anyone. Recent appalling service is leading me to the conclusion that they no longer care about retaining my custom and I am now looking to a new provider .... The reasons: (i) recently, Citibank took down the entire online and telephone service for 3+ days without notifying me in any way. Claimed letter never arrived. They were so sorry but there was no way for ...
...a transaction. Overall, if Citibank keeps failing customers, one should move elsewhere. The stress is just not worth it. I will further update as and when this concludes. ** Update Ends ** I joined Citibank some 4-5 years ago as I needed international banking whilst I was working abroad. The process of signing up was pain free and I duly deposited the required £2000 to the account to commence. Staff at the branch in Oxford Street were friendly ...

free flights

Advantages: Interest, overdraft, freefne customer services
Disadvantages: takes time to answer

Open a citibank bank account and you can get a FREE flight or Eurostar ticket to Paris or Brussels. The only CATCH is that you must either leave £2,000 in the account for 32 months OR have your salary transferred. Other advantages include: a reasonable (2.5%) rate of interest on your savings. Not the best, but not the worst either- and very good considering that you have use of cashcards and cheques for free. An interest FREE overdraft of £500. ...

Profiteering

Advantages: None that I can think of
Disadvantages: Numerous, appaulling service levels, unacceptable delays in clearing checks

...bank account. We chose Citibank because we believed that being part of a US owned operation, we would get the standards of service to which we have become accustomed from AmSouth, our bank in the US. Nothing could be further from the truth. Whereas in the US, a bank will take a MAXIMUM of 3 days to clear a check, Citibank took 14 working days to clear our bank cashier's checks. This would have been hard to accept had the checks been written on ...
...in my opinion. Nor are Citibank the only offenders - although they seem to be by far the worst - ordinary checks take 5 working days to clear as against the 3 or 4 days that other clearing banks seem to require. Citibank took two weeks to issue my ATM card - and then had to issue three PIN numbers - none of which worked. A new card was issued which, having been told would be delivered the next day,(Saturday) did not turn up until the Monday or Tuesday ...

Quick review of Citibank

I have a bad experience with CitiBank. I paid my mobile postpaid bill through CitiBank online utility Payment. Even after 4 days the amount is not received by my mobile service provider. Still there is no response from the citibank. I recomment not to use CitiBank Utility Payment service. Venu (pvenukiran@yahoo.com) ...

A bank to be proud of

Advantages: Lots of free perks, excellent customer service
Disadvantages: Few branches

...transfers of money to other Citibank accounts in the U.S., India and Mexico * No charge for using cash machines anywhere in the world * No fees for purchases made in foreign currencies * The ability to make deposits of cheques drawn in U.S. dollars or Euros with no extra fees * Free travel insurance with really good cover for you & your partner for the first year after you've opened your account The above features should convince you that this ...
...Furthermore, their customer service is equally as good online as it is by telephone. Need more deposit envelopes? Call or email them and they’ll arrive by post in 2 or 3 days at the most. Need a new cheque book? They’ll send it to you automatically when their system detects that you’re about to run out! This bank has very few branches on the high street but I’m fortunate enough to work near one of them although I have never gone there because I’ve ...

International banking

Advantages: Worldwide access to cash dispensers, phone and internet banking, international freephone numbers, savings accounts available in all major currencies, free banking, ability to pay in cheques for free at Lloyds bank branches, £500 interest free overdraft.
Disadvantages: Not the highest interest rates for savings, not available to low earners.

Since I opened my Citibank account three years ago, I have not looked back. The service has proved to be extremely reliable and error free, unlike my experience with other banks. It is only when you hear of the experience of others that you realise how lucky you are. Recently my partner tried to transfer some money using the telephone banking service of a major high street bank. It was only when she tried to make the transfer that she discovered ...
...problem I have encountered with Citibank is in finding out exactly what you can or cannot do with your account. For example, I wanted to know how to deposit a $US dollar cheque into my $US savings account. When you open a new savings account, you do not receive a paying in book or instructions on operating the account. The terms and conditions offer only limited help, and there is very little product information on their web site (www.citibank.co.uk). ...
