Too good for my 2CV

Advantages: fun fun fun!
Disadvantages: not as modern as others, may find more problems

Okay, I have to admit, I’m not a driver but as soon as I am this’ll be my car! My mum got one when I was about seven and I’ve been smitten ever since! Although they rattle and leak when it’s wet, rattle, are unpowerful, did I mention that rattle? They’re such an endearing little car with so much character. A whole new world is opened up to you with a car like this. There are rallies, a great place to meet fellow drivers ...
...individualised by a caring (and often fairly bonkers) owner. Also there’s the wave. Whenever you see another 2CV on the road it’s a custom to wave which I quite miss when driving around in our Vauxhall astra (so any 2CV drivers in the Brighton area, if a young girl in a blue Vauxhall waves at you you know and please wave back!) Although they’re hardly up to date inside in comparison with many of today’s more modern cars they ...

I'm in love with my car!

Advantages: Fuel economy, cheap to maintain
Disadvantages: A bit draughty in winter

...weeks ago I bought a Citroen 2CV, and I'm in love! My 1990 renovated "Special" cost me £2200 on the road, but I never suspected what a completely new driving experience I was in for. Everyone has an opinion on these funny looking cars, mine has been called "the skip", "the skateboard" and "the chicken hutch", but I've never lost my car in a carpark, and I suspect I never will. It has a 600cc air-cooled engine, which sounds tiny, but she will get ...
...it is in second gear. She will run for ever on a tankfull of unleaded petrol. Maintenance is minimal, make sure the oil is OK, and any dents can be sorted out by replacement panels from my (very) friendly local 2CV centre (in Frome, Somerset). The strange column gear change is surprisingly easy to get used to, and after a week I stopped thinking about it. The bouncy sprung seats are very comfortable, with the bonus that they can be removed for ...

Cheap classic motoring

Advantages: Looks, driver participation, peanuts to run
Disadvantages: Slow, noisy, 'minimalist' equipment - but you knew that already?

There's no middle ground with a 2CV - people typically either despise them or smile at them, but while there's no denying that they were essentially manufactured as the car for the French peasant, they do have something that the vast majority of modern cars lack, and that's SOUL. Individual to a tee, they have become something of a cult classic both in the UK and in Holland, but with prices at £1,500 or less for an excellent low-mileage example, ...
...a fortune on buying a good one, or (b) needing to scour the nations of the world looking for parts (huge UK owner's club, well worth joining). Tatty 'project' cars go for a couple of hundred or less, but with prices so low for decent ones, go for one of these. Either way, there are a few things to look out for... Rust - a big enemy of the Deux Chevaux. These cars were not built from top-grade galvanised steel, and the thin floor-pans and chassis ...

To my old beat up car

Advantages: simply the best car ever made
Disadvantages: they don't make things like this no more

...legendary hydraulic steering of the Citroen DS, which would be too complicate to install. This means that the driver will "feel the horses" a little bit (Did you know that 2CV in French means 2 horses?). And what about the windows? the windows of the 2CV are really cleaver. they are cut in two and you can only open the bottom part, revolving it upwards 180° to its blocking point. In this way, the air flows in without harassing your hair cut! besides, ...
...You must be careful, however, in blocking the window, because the mechanism is somehow delicate to manage. On a 2CV, you don't need air conditioning: the car is convertible, so that in summer you'll always have plenty of air coming in. Sometimes it won't be really cool air, I know that, but why don't we take this as a chance to be healthy? air conditioners are dangerous to our lungs, in the long run (ok, air conditioners can stop the pollution from ...

2cv - 45mpg and still buckets of fun

Advantages: Cheapest car possible, great fun
Disadvantages: not the most luxurious

When my father first put the idea of getting a 2cv into my head i was distincly not impressed, i mean how 'un-cool' is that? but, regardless of my complaint he bought one as a rolling mot falure with lots of work (mostly bodwork and chasis) needing done. Some years later the project was complete, a new chasais was bought and fitted and the bodyshell repared and looking better than new. little it should be added was required on the mehanical side ...
...which, in my opinion just when these little wonders start to shine. The 2cv was designed to be a simple car, to be mas produced and maintained by anyone with the ability to pick up a spanner, as such it was an excelet choice of first classic to restore, parts are very cheap and easy to come by. a number of companys are dedicated to providing parts for 2cvs ECAS being usually the best. and once you have one in reasonable condition they can offer ...

My ugly duckling

Advantages: cheap, unusual and you can always find it in the car park
Disadvantages: style and comfort of a bygone era!

After many years of looking I am now the proud owner of a 2CV6 - 602cc of throbbing power under the bonnet, inboard disc brakes - the same as formula 1 cars..Hm, thats where the simillarity ends. In a recent trial mine returned 203 miles on 20.06ltrs of unleaded fuel - now trying a comparison on 4*lrp - that was for a mixed urban/rural area. I was interested to note in the handbook that in 1987, when the car was new, the optional extras included ...
...minimalism this is the car for you, acceleration is nothing if not "steady" breaking has to begin early. If you are using all those eager cc's, don't doze off, you neeed to read the road well ahead or you might get a bit of a fright! Tyres etc are cheap, parts - original and others are available through ads and websites. The annual road tax is (currently)less than £100, and my insurance aged 50+ with a clean licence is £150.00 a year, fully comp. ...

2cv my true love, killing a few myths

Advantages: Cheap, fun, eyecatcher
Disadvantages: some parts expensive or hard to get

...to join a 2CV or Citroen owners club.. Okay back to the car, so is it dangerous? Compared to a Toyota 626 Mondeo, then it's not as safe..But compared to a lot of other classics of it's era, then it's relatively safe (except for side impacts..bad bad bad). It handles well, predictable, not sporty handling but predictable. Excellent brakes when set up right. Excellent engine that loves revs, anybody saying the opposite outta be hospitalized on ...
...and have a good long laugh..I really thought that review was a joke.. Narrow tyres? maybe if you compare directly to a VW Golf..But taking into consideration that the Golf has 3 times the power and twice the weight..Then the 2CV comes out with wider tyres than the Golf.. Slow? Well a top speed of 115 to 120km/h might seem a bit slow on the highways/motorways and the acceleration is a bit low compared to newer cars..Stay in the inner lane, take ...
