Advantages Advantages Very cheap to run, tax and insure. Pretty cheap on maitenance costs.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not so cheap if you and your's aren't mechanically minded.

Introducing....My motor!!! The Saxo I'm going to tell you about is the 1.1litre SX model born in 1996. Now if you want to buy a Saxo then you will have to get it second hand. Citroen stopped making them and did the whole new beginning thing for the mellenium with the C3. Very similar to the Saxo but more expensive to buy and maintain with more expensive and harder to locate parts. ~~~~~~~~~ Costs ~~~~~~~~~ I will start with this because I think it is the thing we all want to know about when considering buying a car. I paid nothing for the car as it was a gift from my Dad when I passed my test ... more

    Advantages Advantages Quirky. Fun. French.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Creaks and shakes. Slow. Unsafe.

"AAAhhh, it's a little Citroen Saxo." Yes, for about a year now I have been driving around in my little Saxo, and I now feel qualified to tell you something about it. This review, I'm afraid, comes four years too late, as the Saxo went out of production in the year 2000. It has since been replaced by a more 21st century, bubble-like car, the C3. There no question that the C3 is the nicer of the two, with its chic French curves, however at £9.000 it's not to everyone's liking. And so we come to the humble Saxo. Weighing in at 805kg the Saxo is very small, so obviously would not be suitable for ... more

Advantages Advantages nimble with good performance for its engine size, fun handling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Steering takes getting used to, basic interior, basic equipment

Before I carry on with the review, I must confess to being a French car enthusiast, previously owning 205 and 309 models. I drive a Mini One and a classic Escort amongst other cars. However, I will try not to let this colour my writing on this particular car - which is owned by my girlfriend. The Saxo is the last in a line of lightwieght compact and fun french hatchbacks, which in many ways started with the 205 design and include the 106, and AX and 309. They all had a similar shell construction and mechanical layout. The 106 shares its shell with the saxo along with torsion bar rear ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent price, cheap to run, nice looking, added extras in the Desire model.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You get what you pay for.

I bought this car with the help of my parents at the age of 18. I needed something that was inexpensive and cheap to run. This car fit the bill. I opted to buy a Citroen Saxo Desire 1.1i three door hatchback. I bought this car from new in 1997 (P reg.) and still have it four years later. I have managed to eke out 110 mph out of this little baby, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone as I felt a little unsafe in such a small car going so fast. This car cost me just over £8,000 pounds with some added extras like an alarm and basic trim fittings, however now that prices have gone down I ... more

I don't know too much about cars so it will probably come to no surprise to those is similar positions to me that I took my husband along with me so i didn't get ripped off! After many searches and looking at many varieties of small car I chose a Saxo East Coast,1.1i 3 dr. The first thing to say about my nippy little car is that I love it. I chose a special edition, which really only meant I had a CD player rather than cassette radio, sporty seats with lovely upholstery and a different coloured seat belt on each seat, yellow gear knob, metallic paint and blue colour on the speed dial etc ... more

    Advantages Advantages A good runner

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fuel efficiency over 60 mph

When looking for a starter car you are looking for the following things: - Cheap to run (low fuel consumption) - Easy to drive (steering etc) - Comfort (Driver) - Space (mainly driver) - Performance - Low insurance and tax - Durability - Safety - Price Citroen Saxo 1.1 Cheap to run: The Citroen Saxo 1.1 was my first starter car, after passing my test. I can hapily say that it is cheap to run... With the exception of staying below 60mph. However, even so, it is not inefficient above 60mph, it just uses much more fuel than other cars at 60mph or above. Its top speed is also not attractive, but ... more

Citroen Saxo 1.1i Forte 3 door --------------- About the car --------------- This is a great little car that has many good points and a few little niggles. I purchased this car in September 2000 (X-reg). I chose the colour Poseidon Blue (Metalic). At the time Citroen were giving a years free insurance away with the car, which as a young male driver this I found was invaluable. The basic on the road cost of the car was around £7200 after the cash back deal. (£800 pounds at the time). With a 1.1i petrol engine (1124cc) you will find the Saxo usually does around 45 miles per gallon even when you ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages colour choices

I have always stuck to Citroen when it comes to cars because they are reliable, not too expensive but still have all the advanced features I want in a car. I used to have to use public transport all of the time, not that it is a terrible thing but buses are never on time and you can't go on long journeys at your own pace and do your own thing going by coach. I needed a car for work. I went to the used car company when first buying a car and bought a Citroen AX but then after 2 or so years it was getting old and I wanted certain things in the car that I couldn't get. Every day of having the car ... more

Advantages Advantages Free insurance, modern, good looking

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very underpowered

Probably my biggest motoring mistake to date.......Don't get me wrong, the Saxo is a great little car. I had a Citroen AX GT before it, and the Saxo is a vast improvement on the old AX chassis. I bought the car in a moment of weakness. My AX was going wrong......the bottom end was knocking like a postman and it was emitting more pollution than an old Boeing 707 (apologies to people who haven't seen a B707 taking off!!) I was bored one Saturday and was browsing through the local paper. I saw the Citroen advert offering £189 per month for a brand new Saxo with 2 years free insurance. I did a ... more

Myself and my son recently visited our local Citroen dealer because we organised a test drive on a 1.1i Saxo First. This was because my son is currently looking for a new car to replace his very reliable but ageing current motor, a Citroen AX. The Saxo has always attracted my son with its good looks and decent performance, but interestingly enough he was interested in the smallest engine option of the First. There are several reasons for this, all unbelievably and unusually sensible coming form my son!! Firstly the 1124cc engine keeps insurance costs down and also it is very light on the drink ... more
