Advantages: Fun, Handles well, Cheap to buy Disadvantages: dealer parts are expensive, few common problems
...most gaps. The suspension that Citroen is famous for is brilliant, goes over any bumps easily without feeling them. Including large speed bumps. I've added Citroen Saxo VTR wheels to mine which adds loads of extra grip and has improved the handling greatly, although they are very close to the rear arch when there is a lot of weight in the back.
The gearbox is smooth and easy to work, it drops down a gear as soon as your foot is flat down. It never ... ...upgraded the brakes on my Citroen Saxo VTS to those off a Peugeot 306 gti-6 which have made amazing difference so I plan to do the same to my 1.4, all it needs is a bit of grinding and they fit straight on.
Citroen main dealers are very expensive but Saxo parts are very easy to get hold of parts from other places and either fit them yourself or get someone to do it cheaper.
Some dealer branches are not very helpful others are it varies which one ...

...start my opinion on the Citroen Saxo, I would like just to let you know that I don’t actually own this car, but am very near to purchasing one. I have trawled through internet sites, opinions, magazines and company reps to gain the knowledge that I have; I hope it helps anyone interested in the Citroen Saxo!
The following in formation is based on the model that I am considering purchasing which is;
A NEW (New number-plate) Saxo Furio 1.4 ... ...service, we also own a Citroen Xantia, in which we have had trouble with the remote central locking. We knew it was the batteries because the little flashing red light on the key wasn’t working. When we asked him for new batteries, he said we would have to book the whole car in for a service! What a rip off; it would have probably cost about £250.
**VALUATION**
Saxos hold there value relatively well but not as good as others like the Volkswagens, ...

...back on the phone to Citroen and they replied, it's a computer fault and it's not covered by warranty it would cost me around £2000 to fix. I explained it was a new car incase they forgot and they said and I quote, "thats not our problem. You wont get your car returned until you pay for the repairs" I told them I'd call them back and they agreed to this.
So I hung up the phone and then picked it up to call my solicitor. He contacted Citroen and ... ...and still goes on.
Citroen refused to return my car to me and I have never seen it since. They eventually sold it at a local auction as a repossesed car and gave me the credit rating to go with it. They will not speak to me and have not replied to my solicitor at all. Then a few weeks ago I recieved a letter from them stating I owe them £8560 for the remainding balance on the car!
So all in all you could say I'm less than pleased about this matter, ...

Advantages: Cheap to run Disadvantages: Well it just is....close to boring
...with the Clio - the Citroen was far more economical. Although it feels less robust, more about that later, it does seem to handle well. The automatic gearbox works well, stamping on the throttle kicks down the gears - there is certainly enough power there when you need it. I probably won't ever consider a car with "gears" again. Point and Steer can't beat it. Most of my driving is in town anyway. OK I was sold, not overjoyed, but I was mobile.
Running ... ...was always dirty looking even when it was clean - this does always look OK. The paint is quite hard - the Renault always seemed to pick up scratches and scuffs. This car responds to good clean, it always looks like a funeral directors car when it's really clean! Still just as economical. I service my own cars. There has been no leaks, unusual oil use, squeaks rattles, irritations, the plugs are an absolute pig to get to, but there is always something ...

Advantages: Looks ok, good engine Disadvantages: BUILD QUALITY, small interior, BUILD QUALITY, Pedals to close
Well what can I say, I owned this so called 'car' for a full 3 days before promptly driving back to the dealer and swapping it for a much older but much better Ford. I had been given lots of advice on what to buy as a decent small 'Hot Hatch' but this didn’t deliver on any of the promises. Lets start inside, the cabin is badly built, with cheap plastics, rattles and bits flying of. Most noticeably the mirror in the drivers side Sun Visor during a ... ...day and everything just feels so... i don’t know a word but low quality kind of says it. The worst thing about the interior by far though are the pedals, I will advise anyone who is looking to buy one to wear their biggest shoes on the test drive, that way you know what it will be like and wont have any nasty surprises, you literally press all three pedals when you try and do anything, its so annoying! However the dials are easy to read and use, ...

Advantages: Very nippy, sporty feel and look, cheap insurance, excellent road handling Disadvantages: A little noisy if anything - due to sports suspension
* They look great - spoiler, body, exhaust tail pipe - if you're really nice to the sales guy you might mangage to get yourself some cute little colour-coded wing mirrors put on! It looks like a VTR without the badges. People with little/no interest in cars/Saxos have called it a VTR to me before! The wheel trims are quite good - many people have said they look like alloys.
*Great alternative for young drivers as it has cheap insurance for its spec. ... ...for age 20, no accidents. Which as all us young drivers know all too well, thats not bad for a sporty looking/feeling car!
* Fantastic road handling - having previously driven a Corsa, the road handling is noticably better immediately esp. going around islands - in the Corsa you felt like you were up on 2 wheels almost, and you definately dont get this with the Saxo!
* Really nippy - definately holds its against the boy racers!
* Has a good spec ...

Advantages: excellent supermini, good mileage, fun to drive, quick (not sporty) Disadvantages: caution on high speeds, not safe in crashes
...I visited 3 times the Citroen dealer and they (said they) tried to fix it. Actually they never fixed it but the problem was sort of diminished. I was used to hold the lever steady in position by one hand when in 3rd gear and accelerating. I just got used to it! Nevertheless, the car handled very well. In highways, many times I saw 190km/h in the speedometer. At these speeds the car needs caution to drive as it is not that stable. In accellerations, ... ...cousin's Audi A4 1.8 and he could not almost reach me! The build quality was good, not exceptional. Overall I was satisfied with the car. It was a reliable car. One annoying thing: the heater and fan levers are not illuminated at night and it is hard to read their position. I just installed a small LED over them in order to be able to see them at night. One day, after 3 years owning the car, my wife took it to go to work and she totalled it in an ...

Advantages: cheap to insure, good fuel consumption Disadvantages: clunky, hard steering,
I recently borrowed one of these from a friend as my car blew up. They are compact motors and quite sporty looking from the outside. From this I was quite impressed.
However, once you get in, it all changes. The car is cheap looking and cramped inside. The pedals are far too close together and I have small feet, so I can't imagine how someone with size 8's would cope with them. A couple of times I hit the brake instead of the accelarator.
They ... ...and the handling for a small car was awful. You couldn't fling this round a corner in a hurry. I also found that if you don't use the car for over a week, the brakes really suffer which i haven't found in other models that I have driven. I never really felt safe in this car, almost like I was in a tin can and after driving it for a couple of weeks, found it was quite clunky and would make odd noises. When i took it to a garage they could find nothing ...

Advantages: Very Economic Disadvantages: Not much space for the taller driver
First Citreon I have ever owned, decided on the 4- door model for the sake of the kids.
The fuel economy is really good, could it be possible this car runs on fresh air?
It is very nippy for such a little car, certainly never been left in anyones dust at the traffic lights.
There seems to be enough legroom in the rear for children but wouldn't fancy being a tall rear-seat passenger. Also with the introduction of the new booster seat law there ... ...using a booster seat. The boot of the car is surprisingly spacious, easily holds a trolley load of shopping.
The only bad point I have found so far was the slighty off-set pedals, which are very close together depending on your footwear you could very well be accidently pushing on the brakes while pressing the clutch. Seemed to get over this problem after getting used to the pedals, but anyone who uses my car reports back with the same problem. ...

Advantages: Economy, nippy, well specified, funky, cheap to insure & run Disadvantages: Pedals close together
Bought this car for my Daughter. It is her first car and for a 1.4 engine it is suprisingly cheap to insure for a young driver and was the same price with Tesco Direct as the basic 1.1 model. The car is well specified and as well as looking quite funky to suit a teenage driver it has ABS and Airbags which for a worried Dad makes me feel a little better!
Economy is amazing and is better than my diesel BMW knocking out over 45mpg.
