Advantages Advantages Fantastic speed, reliability and performance. Looks good and handles very well.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor service from the dealership. Drinks a lot of fuel.

******UPDATE AT BOTTOM****** I have been buying brand new Citroen Saxo's since I brought my first car in 1997. I brought a 1.1i at first, then a 1.4i and about year ago I finally progressed to my dream car, a Saxo 1.6i VTS. I went to my local dealership in Peterborough (where I had brought the first two Saxo's, and where my Dad had brought a total of 5 brand new Citroen's over a period of 7 years). I found the customer service at this branch appalling. I was constantly patronised by the salesman from when I entered the showroom, to when I left. He made it very clear that, because of my age (21 ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast and fun to drive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not ideal transport for more than two adults

I have had my Saxo VTR nearly a year now. I bought it as a wee xmas pressie to myself. I have the new model with the bug eye lights and the 100bhp engine. This means my car does 0-60 in just over 9 secondss Varrrrrrrroooooom The Saxo is a small car but great fun to drive, so if you are looking to travel with people in the back most of the time this is not the car for you. If you are looking for a fast fun car that handles well in and out of town you have just found what you are looking for. The VTR has a 1.6, 100bhp engine. It comes with a CD player, sunroof, Electric windows, rear spoiler ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dealerships, Fuel Consumption, High Insurance, Flimsy Build Quality of Interior

The Citroen Saxo VTS is a great little car. Small and compact but with performance and handling you will miss when you move on from them! I had a Citroen Saxo 1.1i for 2 years, another great little run around, before I upgraded to the Saxo VTS. Although the 1.1i was pokey and responsive for its engine size, the Saxo VTS was a completely different animal compared. I have since had two Saxo VTSs, both from new: a Y reg and a 52 plate. Both VTSs that I owned were reliable, never failing me once. Fuel consumption on the Saxo VTS is a disadvantage. The 1.6i (120 bhp) engine manages to eat at a rate ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to buy, handles well, very nippy

Citroen Saxo VTS 1.6 16v Citroen is a French car manufacturer that produces amazing rally cars and also general cars for road use some of which are made with the rally versions in mind. French build quality and reliability are often slated but after having 5 French cars they really aren't all that bad, they certainly have character and are very unique. The Saxo VTS has a 1.6 16v (1587 cc) 4 cylinder engine the top model Saxo which produces 120bhp at the flywheel with 107 lb-ft it as a book top speed figure of 127bhp all though I have had mine faster as standard as figures aren't always 100% ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good looking car

Disadvantages Disadvantages Purchase is Pricey and maintenance and repair are expensive too

Any car produced by Citreon is going to cause you problems, let me tell you. Whether its an image thing or simply the build/ride quality of your machine, Citreon dont cut the mustard. That is of course, apart from the wonderful Saxo VTS. It is a little box of tricks on 4 wheels. It has a 1.8i engine pumping out enough horses to keep the Cheltenham Gold Cup busy for days. The Top speed is booked at 127 but im sure that is more than fast enough for its drivers. I say this because the average age of all VTS drivers is about 18. It seems every little rich boy has one as his first car to wrap ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Economical and plenty of cheap spare parts when needed.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Exterior and interior trim build quality isnt the best. Looks are a bit dated.

I owned the P reg 1.6 Litre Citroen saxo automatic for roughly 36 months. It was a great little car for the time I had it and done what I needed it too which was mainly getting too and from University/ The best thing about it was the Cheap insurnace and how cheap to run it was. Cheap insurance is normally not what you expect from Saxos as they are stereotyped to be bought by Young Boy racers, the 1.6 Automatic seemed different to this as not many people had the Automatic Version. It also use to regularly see 38+mpg for around town trips and 45mpg for Long motorway and duel carriageway journeys ... more

Advantages Advantages Power, lightweight, corners like a dream

Disadvantages Disadvantages Insurance, Front wheel drive (if you prefer going sideways!)

I love this car, with 120bhp (22mph more than the newer VTR;s) you wouldn't think it would be too much faster or worthwhile buying, but believe me IT IS! The only other car i had before my VTS is, yes, you guessed it, a VTR! As soon as i drove a VTS, i had to buy it because it was just such a power difference. Some specifications are below of the two cars. 1.6 (1587 cc) VTR - SOHC (Single overhead camshaft) 8 valve - 90 bhp - 0-60 in 9.3 seconds - top speed = 116 mph (Phase II VTR models are 98 bhp!) Insurance group 7 1.6 (1587 cc) VTS - DOHC (Double overhead camshaft) 16 valve - 120 bhp - 0 ... more

Advantages Advantages Handling, sexy looks, ample power

Disadvantages Disadvantages citreon dealers and servicing

I bought this car in 1998 with the advantage of 2 years free insurance. I am a high mileage user and the car is very expensive to service compared to other manufacturer dealers. Minor services cost around £135 major closer to £200. The VTR handles superbly unlike some people views that have reviewed it as it like a go-cart and bends are a breeze to go through. The car does lack power but for a small hatch this is to be expected for this price. The top speed flat out for a VTR is 125 MPH on my clock but lacks on acceleration. The car is overpriced in this country and the build is cheap and ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could have slightly better handling

Citroen Saxo VTR This is an elegant car with a sporty look to it as well. It does 0 to 60 mph in 10.4 (secs) reaching a maximum speed of 113.7 mph and a terminal speed of 78.9 mph. The on the road car price is £10,680 which I find very reasonable. It has an insurance group of 7 and the service interval is 12,500 miles. The warranty is 1yr/unltd. You get a driver's airbags in with the price as well of an Immobiliser, 14-inch alloy wheels, power steering, central locking and remote also electric windows, radio and a sunroof. It also has a five-speed transmission. The only thing that lets the car ... more

OK - so whether you're buying a Saxo new or used you're going to get a pretty goo deal. They are affordable little cars with hot hatch credentials. Don't make the same mistake I did though. 2 months after buying the Saxo VTR I drove my mate's VTS ..... needless to say the VTR has felt underpowered since. There's a difference of nearly 30 bhp between the two. Having said that the insurance is a blessing on the VTR, even for a young bloke like me. And if you're buying from new you'll probably be able to persuade the Citreon dealer to throw in a year's free insurance any way. The popularity of ... more
