I bought this car in 1998 with the advantage of 2 years free insurance. I am a high mileage user and the car is very expensive to service compared to other manufacturer dealers. Minor services cost around £135 major closer to £200. The VTR handles superbly unlike some people views that have reviewed it as it like a go-cart and bends are a breeze to go through. OK - so whether you're buying a Saxo new or used you're going to get a pretty goo deal. They are affordable little cars with hot hatch credentials. I've just bought a 2nd hand VTS, S plate, only 14000 miles, for £6900. Going from a 1.2 Nova to a 1.6i 16v with 120bhp took a bit of getting used to, but I am now having so much fun. The 2nd gear goes on upto 7500rpm, to a speed of 65mph, getting you to 60 in 7.7 secs. This car just loves being driven hard and fast. Take it above 4000rpm in 2nd or 3rd gears the car just errupts. Reliability: Hmm, trick one. I have never (touch wood) had any problems so far but I know a fair few people with them and most seem to have problems. Safety: I think this is a grade 2 on the UK safety tests (1 being the worst getting better the higher the number on a likert scale), so isn’t that good in a crash – especially if ur a boyracer its risky.
