Hello dear Ciaonautes....as you so much appreciated my squiggles on my last Citroën BX review, i found some other pretty patterns to decorate this one, hope you like them!

... ...around 1700pounds. There were 180 000kms on the clock, the car was 10 years old but in very good condition. I didn't hesitate to buy it as it was what i was looking for.

Advantages: Swift, relatively refined, 1.9TD reliable Disadvantages: Typical early ninties car, tyre wear, brakes.
I bought my ZX in 1994, having looked at a number of other diesel small/medium cars, and I opted for the 1.9TD. I have never regretted it, and I shall be very sorry to lose it if I have to.
When I bought it we had three teenage children, and buying a diesel was a necessity due to the miles we were clocking up taking them to music lessons. I wanted a car that was cheap to run, quick, agile, quiet and long-term reliable. The ZX has proved to be all ... ...and there is no noticeable loss of performance from about 30,000 miles, at which point I reckoned it had just about run itself in. I check the acceleration regularly up our local hill, and even now there are not many cars that can keep up. It can be uncannily quiet, certainly up to about 65 on a good surface, after which it gets a little more noisy, depending on the weather. At 80+ it starts getting quiet again.
Performance-wise it makes most cars ...

...ago I replaced my aging Citroen BX TZD Turbo with a ZX Aura TD. The BX had been a pain to own with several breakdowns, all due to the complicated suspension so the change to a "normal" suspension on the ZX was a bonus.
The best thing about the ZX is the engine, it is powerful and frugal (averaging over 50mpg). The car is great to drive with good feel through the power steering and excellent road holding. Overtaking is usually no problem and I often ... ...of the class.
Servicing at Citroen dealers is expensive so I have given up using them. I have had the car serviced at small independent garages with no problems and all at half the price.
The car has been very reliable, never failing to start. The only problem of note is the brakes (which is a theme I've had with all the Citroen's I've owned). Although they are good they can be too sharp. In my experience the rear callipers are prone to sticking.

I have been a ZX owner for a little over a year and i cannot praise this beautiful beast enough. It is my second car after owning an AX for a very short period till this came along and took its place. To cut a long story short i knew someone who knew someone who managed to get me the ZX at a bargain price. My 5dr Avantage is just superb for me, it has a 1.4i engine, electric s/r, w/ds and remote c/locking. The only thing it lacks is a set of alloys ... ...Although my limited experience i have driven various vehicles and this traditionally family car is quite surprising. It drives SOO well, the handling on corners and on country roads is superb for a car of its type and size. The suspension is forgiving and makes the ride comfortanble and enjoyable if you want to drive it hard. Although it only has 75bhp it has a lot of punch, acceleration in lower gears in the winter can be sometimes dissapointing ...

A little over 2 years ago I bought my 2nd diesel ZX, an N plate, non turbo hatch with 172000 on the clock. The first one had been ultra reliable but really was past it's sell by date. I intended to keep the new one for a year, knowing that I would cover approximately 20000 miles. Now at approaching 50000 miles, and with nothing very much having gone wrong, I can't imagine ever wanting to part with it. OK, it has a few bumps and scratches, and the rear wiper has given up the ghost (It probably only needs the relay replaced,) but apart from a major brake reline, a couple of tyres, regular oil changes, and MOTs, it's never been off the road. People comment on it's odd looks, well so what? There aren't many cars that look perfect. Despite now heading for the quarter million mile mark, it doesn't burn oil, it is economical to a fault, over 60mpg on a run, and even 50+mpg on my 20 mile each way daily commute, partly on rural roads and partly in city traffic. When I do eventually change this car, I'm going to look no further than it's successor, the Xsara. If anyone is considering buying a medium sized used car for not a lot of dosh, this car is light years ahead of most of it's rivals ...

Review of Citroen ZX
Advantages: Economical to run and cheap to buy. Fairly fast. Good engine. Reliable. "Biodiesel ready". Disadvantages: A little noisy. Not fashionable.
...Why I bought the 1.9TD Citroen ZX ~
I bought this car because I do over 20,000 miles a year, and thought that I could save a fair bit of money by switching from a Petrol to a Diesel. I posted on a forum of car enthusiasts, asking what I should go for. I said I had £750 to spend on a Diesel and wanted reliability and economy above all else.
The responses were all on the same lines: buy a Peugeot 306 with an XUD9 engine, or a Citroen ZX with the ... ...paid about £700 for my Citroen ZX with 100k on the clock. This was a bit over the going rate, but I'd called up several other adverts for cheaper cars first, and they had all gone.
The price included 6 months MoT and 6 months Tax, plus £30 worth of fuel, so the price was not too bad. The condition of the car is really good and it drives like new still. It really does not show the miles and has been very well looked after.

...ago, I bought a used Citroen ZX 1.4i Leader and have not regretted it since. You might think I haven't given myself enough time to find fault with the car but I have been driving around in it endlessly and can't stop.
The engine produces so little noise that even when tearing down the motorway at 95 mph you can still have a conversation with other passengers in the car without having to shout. The active suspension really does take the all the bumps ... ...can easily manage bends and corners and the brilliant road handling means you can go round these corners like a complete nutter and still feel safe (but I'm not condoning driving round corners like a complete nutter.)
The boot is much bigger than you expect from a medium sized car and the rear seats can also be folded down to make more room. However, you can't split the rear seats when you fold them down so a few minus points there. Petrol consumption ...

I owned the top of the range ZX Volcane for 3 and a half years, and it was a very comfortable and competant car. I previously owned a Citroes AX GT, and found that a lot more fun. The ZX was a bit slow taking off from the traffic lights, but had wonderful mid range pulling power - you zoomed past those other mid size saloons! Where it really came into its own was on a motoring holiday in Ireland. It was a car for the open road, handling and ride ... ...almost 40mpg! Cruised well on the motorways too, of course..
However, I used it mainly for short hops to and from work and to be honest, it was not a great car for that. Expensive exhaust has to be replaced after 2 years - mainly due to the town driving and the engine not getting a chance to warm up. It lacked fun and was a slightly dull looking car.
The main gripe I had was build quality - facia rattles, tape player malfunctions, electric window ...

I had a Citroen ZX 1.9D Avantage for 4 years as a company car, and the experience was by and large a happy one. The car is comfortable and easy to drive, very spacious and pretty well equipped for a mid-sized vehicle of this age. Increasingly now they are becoming very cheap to buy as 2nd hand values plummet.
Conservatively styled by Citroen standards (not that unattractive however), the car features standard suspension - unlike its predecessor ... ...electrical niggles, and (a common Citroen ailment) the heater matrix failing, causing brown pungent cooling fluid to pour into the passenger footwell, along with subsequent overheating, head gasket failure etc. etc. This happened at 70k miles, so if you're thinking of buying one, check out its history carefully, otherwise it should be a bargain. ...

I bought a K reg citroen zx avantge 1.4 just over a year ago and I have to say that so far I've been really pleased with it.
It's needed a couple of things replacing - tyres, fan belt and the odd light bulb, but so far nothing major.
It's been really reliable. The only trouble I had was when the fan belt needed replacing and it wouldn't start! However, it was already booked into the garage by that point!
It's not the most stylish of cars and so ... ...certainly not ugly (unlike some I could mention!).
The acceleration is good, even when fully loaded, and it has an excellent top speed. The engine is quite noisy though, especially at 70mph range.
It's quite spacious - I recently did a four hour round trip with four passengers and luggage quite comfortably.
It's a good second hand buy for anyone more concerned with reliability than image. ...

This is my first Citroen and European spec car ever, I have never seen a ZX until I moved here in Spain. They don't sell them in United States, they should. I find them very well designed and engineered. I bought my ZX as a second car since we can only take one car from US. I bought this for my daily commuter for work. I purchased the car with 4 new tires, new carb and battery, a/c, pwr front windows, pwr locks, rear wiper, rear window defroster, ... ...experience, I am impressed with some of their features, sun screen in the back, stereo flip down cover, (nice feature for anti-theft) sliding back seat, single wiper. I am pleased to see how accesible all of the common preventive maintenance parts. Spark plugs, oil filter and fluid drain plugs, etc. (I am a do it yourself kind of guy :). I am on my second ZX diesel,both normally aspirated. My second car was an ex-demonstrator with 10,000 miles on the clock and is now sitting at 104,000. Being an SX, top of the range, the seats and interior generally looks as good as the day I bought it. It does not burn oil between changes and I get a consistent 54-56 MPG, regardless of whether it is on long runs or short. I know it's time I changed but,having tried a few other makers' products I ...

My 1995 Citreon ZX has finally decided it has had enough. I first bought it with 30,000 miles and have had five years of trouble free motoring adding another 100,000 miles.
First hiccup was when replacing clutch (after 125,000 miles) it was later discovered that part of the problem was the gearbox! £800 later the problem was fixed.
Five months later whilst visiting son in Birmingham it decided to spring a major water leak (water pump seal). Due ... ...cut my loses.
Car is parked in front and if anyone is interested plenty of life in engine, new gearbox, clutch all there.
I managed to pick up another 1997 ZX in lovely condition for £650 so can carry on enjoying that lovely french-style ride, space and comfort for a while longer......
The only confusing issue is the various fitments: e.g.
OLD CAR: no power steering, electric front windows, no abs, electric passenger mirror, no foglights
