It is ammonia-free too, which is good, it doesn't sting or smell bad. On the box, there is a label which says "RUB HERE to release the refreshing fragrance", which I automatically did. It smelled really nice, which is a bonus, because hair colour usually smells really chemically, but, not this one, so, ... ...Handy Tips

Clairol tell you not to wash your hair for at least 24 hours before you colour, as your hair has natural oils that protect it, which makes it harder to dye if washed immediately before colour, so use this tip wisely.
Make sure your hair is dry, as hair colour takes better to dry hair, I didn't read the leaflet the first time, and washed my hair, and then applied the dye (no wonder it didn't take)…..

Advantages: Doesn't smell chemically, leaves hair soft Disadvantages: Doesn't take to red hair very well
Having looked at the list of reviews of this product, I must be wrong in thinking this was a new prodcut, but as I have only been dyeing my hair for the last 6 months this may be why. After seeing the advert for this product on tv, I was convinced this was the product for me as it was kinder to my hair, smelt gorgeous and made my hair shiny (it never ever is!).
So I popped down to my local Superdrug and bought the permanent colour in a dark brown ... ...and Boots and haven't seen it on sale anywhere else, so I can't say if this is competitively priced, but compared to all the other brands available, it seems reasonable.
I have used this twice now, so feel I am now able to give you a helpful review to decide if this product is for you.
The box
The first thing you notice is the packaging, and this brand is far more exciting to look at on the shelves than the others. It has purple sparkle, the expected ...

I’ve been dying my hair since I was 14 and have tried all sorts of different colours. From vampy black to fiery red, I’ve tried them all. My natural hair colour is the most boring shade of brown you have ever seen, so as soon as I got to the age where I could afford to do something about it, I did. I mainly stick to coppery/light red colours now, as people say it compliments my green eyes.
In my teens I used a dye in the form of a mousse. It was ... ...on it. Sadly, about 4 years ago the company stopped making it and I was faced with the horror of finding a new dye. I tried 6 or 7 different permanent hair colours, but none of them lived up to the ‘mousse’ I had sworn by for so long. Then I discovered Clairol’s Herbal Essences range, and I have a new ‘best friend.’

It was actually the packaging that drew me to the product in the first place. Faced with having to pick a hair dye ...

Advantages: good conditioning treatment, great colour Disadvantages: can fade quite quickly, not the cheapest
After a good few home highlighting sessions and a mad moment where what were meant to be copper and blonde streaks ended up turning my head pink and yellow, my hair needed some TLC and a return to its natural colour.
The way to do this, I decided, was to pick a permanent hair dye as close to my natural colour as possible. This turned out to be Herbal Essences Permanent Colour number 26, which at the time was called 'brilliant dark blonde', but has ... ...This was the first time I dyed my whole head with a permanent colour. I'd been using the other herbal essences products (Shampoo, conditioner and cleanser, toner & moisturiser) for a long time beforehand so I trusted the brand. This in mind, I didn't mind the slightly expensive price tag (close to £7 in some Boots stores, though I got mine on special offer in Superdrug, like the good bargain hunter I am). To be honest, my hair was in such a state ...

Advantages: Easy to use, no chemical odours and no irritation to scalp, natural looking results giving excellent condition and shine to hair Disadvantages: pricey, but I took advantage of a half-price offer
My natural hair colour is pretty nondescript, it’s not dark enough to be called brown, nor fair enough to be blonde, it’s somewhere in the middle, a bit of a mousy colour and I hate it! So, in an attempt to brighten myself up a bit, I use hair colours to lighten my locks in the hope I can get away with being a dizzy blonde rather than a quiet mouse.
Up until very recently, I’ve used quite harsh chemical based permanent hair colours ... ...scalp and skin, and have that awful chemical ‘ammonia’ smell which can make your eyes water and your nostrils sting and last for days after using the product. They can also cause your hair to become very dry and brittle over time, losing it’s natural shine and lustre.
In Superdrug at the weekend, I came across Clairol’s Herbal Essences range of haircolours which according to the packaging did exactly the same job as the chemical ...

Advantages: No horrible smell. Easy to use Disadvantages: Resulting colour not as expected
As a queen of hair dye and many years of shoving chemicals on my head every 4-6wks, I decided to go back to my natural colour which now turned out to be a very nice medium to dark ash blonde. However, the colour was a bit wishy washy and I wanted to enhance it and make it a bit more ‘brilliant’.
So I was pleased when I came across the colour ‘Brilliant Dark Blonde’ in the Herbal Essences range. It looked like a nice soft, dark ash blonde. I did ... ...to have a few light blonde highlights in her hair which kinds of defeats the purpose of modelling a colour!
This brand also appealed to me because of the more natural ingredients and no ammonia, which doesn’t give you that awful smell and stinks the whole house out.
It also comes nicely packaged in a sort of squashed round box to give it a unique shape rather than the typical standard square box. The colour comes in one small bottle and the developing ...

CLAIROL HERBAL ESSENCES,FEARLESS COLOUR
Ask any friend of mine how often I dye my hair and they will probably say too often, I have a habit of dying it every 3 weeks as I like intense and vibrant reds and they fade really quickly. I tend to try out any hair dye on offer or if it's a new product so when I saw this I had to buy it.

It also states that it is a level 3 hair dye which is permanent and the colour which is number 49: beyond cherry.

Advantages: great colour, fanstastic conditioning action Disadvantages: none that I can define
My hair is naturally a light-to-mid brown. Over the years I have played with many colours, but always found that lighter colours left me with a ginger tinge, or, even more unpleasantly, with a nasty yellow. Recently, I took the plunge to going completely blonde (BTW, the photo on my profile dates from before then!!!). My first attempt used both a pre-lightener and a blonde shade produced by another well known company. Once again, despite having paid ... ...with an uninspiring and artificial yellow and my hair looked very out of condition. Finally, I experimented with Herbal Essences Extra Light Brilliant Blonde (shade XL2). This does not require any pre-lightening. The result surpassed every expectation. My hair became a very natural looking blonde. The mixture is very easy to use. It is applied to dry hair, and does not drip at all. I find that while I'm waiting for the colour to develop, I can go ...

Advantages: Nice smell, glossy hair & nice resulting colour Disadvantages: Fading a little bit after only 4 weeks
A couple of years ago I ditched the blonde and went back to my natural hair colour. The only problem is, that no matter how long I leave it or keep cutting it, the ends remain blonde, almost as if my natural hair is starting to grow blonde about half way down my neck. I've dyed it many times to make it go back to being dark brown but the ends remain stubbornly blonde looking. Anyway, after leaving it almost a whole year now since my last attempt, ... ...out a shade from the Herbal Essenses Fearless Colour range (i.e. Chocolate Velvet). I didn't even know they did hair colour at the time and I selected it simply because I love their shampoos and conditioners.
Anyway, the process was simple enough, just put on the colour leave for 25 - 40 minutes and rinse off. This is then followed up by an intensive conditioning treatment which contains enough for five follow up washes (one to be used each week).

Advantages: Easy to use, pleasant smelling Disadvantages: None
I'm an old hand at hair dyes and have used many brands over the years. However, Clairol's Herbal Essences is one of my favourites. There's a great range of colours, which delights me since I don't like to use the exact same shade all the time. I tend to vary between different shades of red and mid-brown, and Herbal Essences have at least half a dozen shades I'd be willing to try.

I've always been very pleased with the results too. And, unlike a comment posted below, it *doesn't* wash out. All hair colours fade a little over the first three or four washes, but apart from that initial fade the colour is permanent. You'll only need to touch up the roots - unless, like me, you ...

Advantages: Available in most drug stores Disadvantages: As it's a Do it yourself product it's hard to see the back of your head. Also has development time of 40-45 minutes.
I'm a self confessed hair colouring addict. I haven't seen my natural shade in seventeen years and don't actually know the full extent of greys either but I love changing my hair colour.
Having that much experience I've of course had my share of bad colours too and I'm very reluctant to leave my tried and true Loreal Preference. However the Herbal Essence was on special price at our local Tesco for 3.89 and I thought I'd give it a try. I'm going ... ...#34 Radiant Light Auburn with rosehips and primrose level 3 permanent. I'm naturally a medium brown but currently have auburn hair.
The instructions were easy to follow and had cheap clear plastic gloves attached to the instructions. I prefer Loreal with proper rubber surgical gloves that don't split at the seams and dye your fingerwebs. I did have to make arrangements for this process as it takes longer than most other over the counter hair colours. ...

Like loads of you, i'm sure, ive been dying my hair since i was at school, ive tried all sorts of different colours but more recently i like to just enrich the colour of my own brown hair. I like it dark you see and it has a tendancy to go almost mousy! The main worries i have when using hair dyes is that a) i'll stain / burn my skin or b) it will damage my hair. I've used this hair dye 5 times now and cant see myself ever changing to another. Wonderful!!!! ...

After having blonde highlighted streaks put into my hair, i decided to have a complete change of colour and was recommended by previous users of Herbel Essences of its quality.
