If you want to change the world, be that change

Advantages: Ethical, Environmentally Conscious, Customer Led.
Disadvantages: In my eyes, none at all. It's all good.

...and vodka, was with the Co-operative Bank. I kind of walked into this account by default, given that my parents had always banked with the Co-op and as I didn't really have a clue about banks accounts, budgets or money-matters generally I went with the obvious option of following their lead. I have to say it was both the best financial, and ethical decision I have ever made. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *****The Thing About ...
...that I wouldn't. The Co-operative Bank is the ONLY high street bank to have an Ethical Policy which is guided by its customers and dictates exactly who it will and will not do business with. In 2005 they turned away £10million worth of business because it conflicted with their ethical policies. Ethical policies which were helped into creation by the beliefs of their customers. One of the businesses the bank turned away in 2005 was: "International ...

how this bank helped me sort my life out.

Advantages: Very Friendly Staff,
Disadvantages: Tell you when i find any.

Well you are probably wondering from the title what i am going to write about. Was i in so much trouble that i was going to take my own life. Was i in such a mess that i thought about running away and just trying to start a new life. Well i will explain, i started work for the co-op 5 years ago roughly, and i decided to also open a co-op bank account to get my wages paid in there monthly. I Went to the local branch, they was very very helpful, ...
...if i would like an overdraft on my account. what kind of account it was for, i explained it was for paying my wages in and so forth, until finally there we was, finished i had got my bank account set up, just a normal run of the mill, no overdraft bank account. So my first weeks wages went in, and i was there yes hooray, everything is going good, every month the wages went in fine, the interest rates was good, but nothing special, but looking at ...

Right-on attitude, shame about the banking.

Advantages: fantastic ethical policy, can be friendly and 'human'
Disadvantages: just not very good at providing banking services!

I chose the Co-operative Bank for all the right reasons. I care about human rights, fair trade, the environment and sustainable development - there doesn’t seem a lot of point donating to a charity which is going to save the earth/children etc, then depositing my money in a bank which will lend it to multinational corporations with scruples reflecting all that is worst about globalization. The Co-op’s ethical investment policy, upon which ...
...BANK next to the word Co-operative in the High Street, who’s cashpoint I used the other day to withdraw a big wad on my Company Barclaycard. As many of you will know I run market research discussion groups, and had to sort out respondent incentive payments for that evening. However my incentives were GBP50 each, and the machine paid out in 20s, as I explained to the nice lady at the counter having gone in and queued up. So could I just change ...

The Bank that trys there best to say YES

Advantages: EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE, MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE A CUSTOMER INSTEAD OF A PROFIT
Disadvantages: NOT ENOUGH BRANCHES

...a bank account at the Co-Operative bank, and I would like to share my views with you, I will start of with; Customer Service I have really got to say the customer service that you get from the bank is second to none, I have only had dealings with call centres, and lets admit call centres don’t hold the best of reputations, but I find that they really do try and help, and are definitely not afraid of conversation, not only do you get the financial ...
...nice friendly person sat at the other side of the phone, who seems like they will go that extra mile to help you. I haven’t yet had to use a branch so I cant really comment to much on the customer service on a face to face level yet, but I expect it to be pretty much the same. Accessibility. You can never say that you cannot access your account, the bank offers a wide range of options, there is internet banking, telephone banking (which also ...

Better than some of the others

Advantages: Friendly staff
Disadvantages: Not many branches

I have to admit thatr I adn't used my co-op account for years until about 3 years ago when I had a rather large falling out with Barclays, but since then the Co-op have been rather good. As a plain current account, I was quite surprised when I rang to ask for an overdraft and was told I was already approved to have £1000!!! WOW! Ok, so it cost me something like £15 to set it up, but for that I get a £1000 overdraft until June 2001. The customer ...
...staff that I've spoken to being really helpful and polite. The internet banking side is also easy enough to use, although it's not very easy to set up a direct debit or cancel them on the site. I tend to use the customer service helpline for things like that, but it's useful to check your balance and order cheque books etc. The only downside I can think of is that there aren't many branches. If I need to pay hard cash in, I have to go to the local ...

A Bank that makes you feel like a person

Advantages: Friendly to the individual and the world
Disadvantages: can get a bit mixed up sometimes

I have banked with the Co-Operative bank in various ways for quite a few years now. Initially I used them primarily for savings and direct debits, but then swithced completely when my environmental conscience and love of small animals demanded that I abandon the evil, bunny-killing Natwest. I really like the Co-Op's ethical policy and the fact that they walk the walk rather than just talking the talk. I have always found the telephone banking services ...
...sure your needs are being met rather than the bank's need for profit. Even if this isn't entrely true, they at least give the impression of genuinely having your interests at heart, which makes a pleasant change. However, my dealings with the bank have not been without one or two glitches. The first was when I opened my initial savings account with them, along with a cheque for £2,000. A very nice Scottish man in the Wigan branch set up our account ...

Friendly & 'Co-Operative'

Advantages: Friendly, Helpful Staff & Great Everyday Banking
Disadvantages: None I have found so far

I've got a current account with the Co-Op, which I have held now for nearly 2 years. Basically, this current account gives me an agreeable overdraft, Visa debiit card & cheque guarentee and of course, a cheque book, as per all other banks. So what sets the Co-Op apart in my book? Well I'm a bit of a deal hopper, I'll chage my credit cards if I find a 0% deal, I switch banks if their overdraft rate is better or they are offering incentives etc, ...
...wasn't the frirst ban I looked at, I had the impression they were limited in facilities and old fashioned. Limited facitilites I was totally wrong about, they offer everything under one roof, mortgages, savings, insurence plus all the extras too. Now for me, yes they are old fashioned but this is where they excel, all the branch staff I have dealt with actually show a lot of care for their customers, recently I informed them my income would be dropping ...

Great Bank

Advantages: Ethically sound, excellent customer service
Disadvantages: None

The Co-op bank is in my opinion the best “high street” bank to be with. I like to think of myself as an environmentally conscious person and the ethics of the Co-op bank are consistent with this. None of the money entrusted to them is used unethically and this policy is strictly upheld. I support their emphasis on phone and internet banking – anything that saves paper must be a good thing. I have not had reason to actually enter a branch of the bank ...

Don't get me started...

Advantages: Great business banking facilities and choice of accounts
Disadvantages: Personal banking is a let down and staff are miserable

That's a little unfair to start with. What I mean is don't get me started on their personal current accounts. Their business products, staff and service are excellent. Two types of business account (ordinary and business direct) and you choose which is most appropriate for you. For me, it is the ordinary account, which is the cheapest of the business accounts going, costing just £5 minimum bank chargest a month. Only if I do many transactions out ...
...count so I use the facility to transfer funds to my personal account as necessary (by phone) and it costs nothing. Great stuff. Personal banking is another matter. I have been with Coop for 18 years and have never really been happy with them. Staff are not friendly and the bank has not supported me when I needed, for example a loan a few years ago. I wanted to buy a classic car, needed the money soon and applied for a Coop loan. No call backs, turned ...

...Leicester and of course The Co-operative Bank. I decided that after looking at all the websites, the best one was the Co-op bank. What made me decide this was the ethical policy they run across all of their companies, wether it is travel agents, banks, funeral services or supermarkets. Other bonuses include: if they make a mistake in an area covered by their guarantees, then they will give you £15 if you have a credit card with them, they will donate to a good cause every time you use your card to pay for something easy application. ---THEY WERE SO FAST!--- I applied for an account with Alliance ...

Twenty Years With Them-No Complaints

Advantages: Good customer relations. Ethical concepts
Disadvantages: Comparatively small branch network

...a current account with the Co-operative Bank for over 20 years and have really no major complaints about this bank. Whilst lecturing in the East Midlands in the early 1980's I decided to open an account with the Co-op largely on account of it being conveniently located for me and to a lesser extent because I was disatisfied with another high street bank, which shall remain nameless. After leaving the area and going overseas I still maintained my ...
...Overall, I would give the Co-operative Bank a good rating and perhaps there main weakness is that compared to the big High Street banks their branch network is comparatively small.Still their customer relations are good and put some of the larger banks to shame.Perhaps at the end of the day that is one of the most important attributes of a bank,at least viewed from the perspective of a customer ! ...

Very Very Good

Advantages: Friendly.Competant.
Disadvantages: Not enough branches

Having been in business for over 20years I have needed the help in that time from Banks, for either business loans or general banking facilities. I have found that most banks that I have dealt with in that time seem all to eager to grab you as a customer then treat you shodderly. I am no longer in business and have been a customer of the Co-op Bank for the last six years, in that time I have been treated as an individual with courtesy and respect. ...
...competent, I have become friends with staff and even take my 2 year old granson to see them, Why?? Because if I go into the bank and he is not with me I am asked to bring him in. Although the staff will spend this time with you, it does not detract from the business at hand, I find them very competant in all the aspects of Banking together will a personnal understanding. A very efficient bank, and in all the time I have banked with them my account ...

The bank with principles

Advantages: The ethical policy, customer participation programme and free services all make thins bank better that the rest.
Disadvantages: A small bank, hardly the branch on every corner kind (but is there such a thing now a days?).

Co-ops are world famous for their friendly, trustworthy and caring services. In this day and age, banks are hardly high on anyone's favourite places lists. They are famous for ruthless branch closures, outragous cash machine charges, bully-boy tactics, impersonal attitude and above all their greed. This bank is different. It's actually run in a similair way that a building society is run - it's customers can always have a say in the way it is run. ...
...ethical policies. they promise not to invest in any companies, no matter how big or small, how profitable or how popular, that emply methods that cause harm to people, the enviroment, animals or society as a whole. I was quite taken aback when I read this on their (very easy to use) web site. It5 was also crying out for new or old customers to stand up and be counted by voicing their ecological concerns. The bank is currently in the process of updating ...

If you want good service, it's got to be the CoOp

Advantages: Fast, ethical, efficient, great Internet setup.
Disadvantages: Not as many branches as other larger banks but make up for it by treating YOU as a customer, not an account number

We have been using the CoOperative Bank for several years now and have never had any reason to complain. The account was easy to set-up and we received all the necessary documents (Cheque books, cards, pin numbers, etc.) within a short period of time. I thought that there may be a problem with deposits but, with the envelopes supplied, this proved to be no problem at all. Within about 4 or 5 days the cheques were credited to our account. Cash deposits ...
...this through any Post Office and they are very common in most places. The Internet side of it is excellent. We never have any problems signing in to our account and the site never seems to be down. Security is first class. If, like us, you are unfortunate enough to have put in the wrong password or details three time in a row then access to the account through the Internet is locked. One short phonecall to them and, after verification of who you ...

Day to Day Banking with Co-op

Advantages: Easy telephone banking
Disadvantages: Need to be pushed on competative lending.

I chose the co-op bank because I was so racked off with poor service from my previous bank (Then Midland, now HSBC - the name has changed maybe they have?). Various mistakes and generaly poor customer relations drove me away. Opening an account was as easy as it should be, simple and undaunting, one application form and some photocopies of proof of address. Day-to-Day banking is easy with access to all Link machines free of charge, and co-op was ...
...use other banks ATM's. Loan applications, mini statements, queries etc are all handled through a telephone banking system charged at local rate. Enter your account number then sort code, a four digit security code and let the telemenu's guide you around. If your in a rush and need to speek to a human fast, a simple click of the "#" button does the trick. No queues, no endless annoying musak. The only gripe I can really tell you about was when I ...
