...I got a call from Coldseal customer service saying they would not be turning up due to too many fitters being off sick. Talk about late notice, I could have cried, infact I did cry. I was given a new date immediately for the last week in November.
The Day arrived again, and the fitting was scheduled to take 2 and a half days from the Monday onwards. Monday morning I was up and dressed bright and early and I waited and waited for them to arrive. ... ...heard a dickie bird from Coldseal so I gave them a call and sure enough they sent someone out a few days later. Unfortunately the new letterbox he brought with him was a smaller size so was no good. He filled out a full report with sizes etc and said that we would hear from customer service in up to four weeks. That was at the beginning of Dec 2002.

Advantages: You've heard about them, they're easy to contact (at first) Disadvantages: overpriced, poor service, no customer care
...it is fairly usual. Coldseal say that it is within the usual limits of building work. They don't tell you that when the sales team are in (all highest quality, sell you a dream)
Third - to make up for the gap between the floor and the bricks they put in skirting board - badly. It bends away from the wall, there's gaps all over and it looks awful. Will they redo it? No, it isn;t in the contract, they did it as a favour, that's all there is to it.
... ...So what don't Coldseal offer?
Conservatory help line - you can only speak to one person for any problems.
Site manager - no-one comes to check on the different contractors that they use
Overseer/quality control - no-one checks for any problems, it relies on you to notice them.
Overall, after 18 months of stress, hassle and being threatened, I would never use Coldseal, nor recommend them to anyone.
I don't doubt that they can do a good job, but ...

Advantages: Friendly people, good value. Disadvantages: Perhaps a little overzealous. More expensive than some, but youg et what you pay for.
Today my coldseal windows are being fitted. We went with Coldseal because we have a very old house with large windows and needed custome built fittings - something we did not find many people offering. On the phone they were a bit pushy, but we had decidedd we wanted new windows, so it wasnt too much of a problem. There have been some confusions over their database, so they did keep trying to send us different people - I found it more funny than ... ...who came out to see us was very late - probably not entirely his fault. We refused to let him in. He was miffed but went away.
A few weeks later another chap came round to see us. He was quite helpful - plenty of sales pitch but nothing too pushy. As we have large windows, we had expected a significant cost - we need security glass in one of them. The price was a little cheaper than we had expected - argely because we said we could be fitted in ...

...made an online enquiry with Coldseal Windows (www.coldeal.co.uk) to find the price of having 4 windows and 2 doors. The website has the option to get a quotation, but unfortunately it only tells you how much it would be per week on finance, and not how much the total cost is.
Slightly disappointed, I started looking around other companies. About a week later Coldseal phoned me up to ask what I thought of their quotation. I was slighly confused because ... ...we'll discuss it and give Coldseal a ring if we decided to go ahead.
Then came the catch (and this is when alarm bells should have started ringing). The price was only valid for that night, and unless we signed a contract there and then it would revert to the previous £4,000.
We stood firm and decided not to be bullied. I didn't sign the contract and the sales guy left. But, doubts crept in over night that I'd missed a good opportunity - afterall ...

...blow over because he had Coldseal windows and when the time came to re-glaze my own homestead, Coldseal would certainly have a call from me. If I had phoned Coldseal 18 months ago they would have been more than delighted to quote me a price and take my money off me. ...partner and I went to Coldseal to install new double glazing and two doors (front and back). We chose them on the basis of price, quality of product and a likeable non-pushy salesman.
If I had known how we were going to be treated by this awful company, I wouldn't have let the 'likeable salesman' through the door. In all cases we had to deal with the Farnborough office.
Installation took twice as long as originally stated. A team of installers ... ...the mistake in thinking that Coldseal rang us to tell us that they had the units, it was left to us to keep ringing to find out what was going on.
This just left the panel on the rear door. Another installer also came and took the measurements of the panel on the rear door (second measurement taken), and assured us he would get a replacement panel sorted out. We even signed a job/time sheet to prove that he had been, but this was probably lost too.

...work as a 'telecanvasser' for Coldseal for a year and a half, I am probably in quite a good position to comment on not only their product but also their service and guarantees.
To be honest, I couldn't mention one national window company that, in my opinion, would not do anything they can to get people's business. What I will say is that Coldseal are one of the best of a bad situation.
The new window that Coldseal have just launched is an outstanding ... ...there you have it. Coldseal definitely do a good quality window. In fact, I couldn't really fault any of their products, as with most window companies.
Then there's the service. Coldseal claim to offer to come back and clean your windows once a year for ten years. This is true, but only if you sign up on Goldcard, their finance scheme, which can work out up to three and a half times more expensive. Therefore, if you are quoted £5000 for a full house ...

We had a rep call on us offering apointments, and as we were at the time considering a new porch we agreed to an appointment. The chap turned up 1/2 hour early and was quite rude when we asked him to wait in his car as we were eating. At the allotted time he came in the house and started his speil, we were very impresseed with the product, and he went through our finances to see what we could afford to spare each month, he then began measuring up, ... ...a quote. Now bearing in mind our porch is 2ft by 4ft the quote was a staggering £4567. Quite obviously not being prepared to pay this amount out we said no way, so he then came up with another quote if we had their sign outside the house it would knock a third off the price, still unhappy with this he then progressed to ring his manager to see what 'deal' he could offer, yes again he came back with an even lower price about half the original but ...

I am considering having double glazing installed. From the first initial contact with one of their rep I made it very clear that I was interested, but that I would not consider changing my windows for another 6 months or so. I was told that did not matter and someone came to measure the windows and give me a quote. I took over three hours for the measuring to be completed and I had to endure a lenghty discussion about the fantastic quality of the ... ...the windows would cost me. I had already done some research on various web sites and I according to the dimensions keyed in I had obtained a cost of anything from £5,500 to £10,000. So, when I was asked for a figure I decided to say, approx. £7,000 although I didn't like the approach. The salesman said he was very sorry, but it would be a lot more expensive and I was quoted £22,000. I thought it was absolutely ridiculous and I told him it was fine ...

...( I should sit down) Coldseal rang with the date and time for fitting great within 6 weeks. As we had a severe asthmatic child we decided to go away for the 5 days it would take because of the dust. Everything confirmed about windows and holiday off we went leaving a friend to move in.
10am due time no body arrived not 12 or 2pm had a phone call on holiday from friend telling me. To cut this short I spent my week of holiday on the phone to coldseal ... ...home to the same windows minus the cost of a holiday and stress.
1 month later they were fitted, looked great and they still do eccept for 1 window that the seal has broken on and has frosted up. Rang and rang after sales eventualy got through a man came to measure for a replacement 2 days later WOW! havn't seen him since. In Jan 1999, Coldseal installed a new double glazed patio replacement window system. The units provided would not fit the openings in the walls, so they had to dispense with the bottom cill which should have been a vital part of the water seal! The units leaked water into the patio from day one! After 8 visits, and 8 attempts to cure the problems over 12 months, the problems got even worse. A complete replacement system was ordered, but this would ... ...of glass brought, 4 were too small, and the other 2 were miles too big. The new frames were fitted, and the glass spaces filled with sheets of plywood. AFTER 20 MONTHS, my patio is still uninhabitable!
I would not have another Coldseal system if they were given away free!!!! ...

I ordered windows from coldseal on the 5th of Feb 2004, I duly got a letter through confirming my installation date of 26th of April. Fine a thought a little bit of a wait, but not to bad. The day of the installation after removing curtains etc, I got a phone call in the afternoon saying that the fitting wouldnt now take place till the 9th of June. No apology no explaination,
I tried to contact someone at the Coldseal head office, after getting ... ...for advice, they told me coldseal had been excluded from their organistion last year. I have passed this on to Trading Standards who are investigating and are looking at prosecuting for false advertising when they have confirmed this with the GGF. But even with this I can not get out of the contract as much as i'd love to. So its either pay Coldseal the cost of my windows (£2400) and get them fitted. Or for them to prosecute me for breach of contract ...

...contacted the relevant person at coldseal informed him of the problems, it was agreed remedial work would be undertaken in about 2 weeks.
Since that time (present date 03/08/2004 ) about 4 months despite frequent telephone calls and email it appears no-one is in the least interested .
The fitting and quality of windows very good.
After sales non existent.
STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY NO AFTER SALES SERVICE ,THE OFFICE STAFF APPEAR STUPID OR INDIFFERENT ...

Coldseal were very helpful to start with, they offered a competitive price, promised to have the doors fitted before our kitchen was and sold us the promise of easy to contact customer service. We were cancelled twice, doors were fitted after the kitchen was, they did not replace the lintel, the interior plaster work was awful despite a promise that it would be made good. The locking mechanism was broken, and we were ... ...completed, or they took the keys to the door with them, allowing them access to our home. We had to finish the interior plaster work and external sealing at our own time and expense. We have spent a total of 6 hours on hold trying to get a refund for the lintel, sent 6 letters of complaint, (3 recorded delivery), even threatened legal action, and we have not receieved one apology, phone call, letter, guarnatees, anything.
