Advantages: Awe-inspiring graphics, simple gameplay, hugely addictive. Disadvantages: Can be frustrating with larger vehicles, the American co-driver is horrible.
...was to find out that Colin McRae passed away last Saturday (15th September). He was the one who got me interested in rallying in the first place and the world in general will be a little worse off without him. But many thanks for the memories, and putting your name to this game.
Ok, so onto the game. This was something of a big title for me, as it was one of those games I'd read about ages ago and bought a PS3 in anticipation of. Up to the release ... ...up to expectations?
The Colin McRae franchise has been around the better part of a decade now, and has always been the measuring stick for all rally games. There have been others that have come close, such as Sega Rally and WRC, but this is the original, the mack-daddy. I've never been a fan of driving games. They always did my head in because i couldn't get the hang of it and i could never come first. Even in Grand Theft Auto, on the missions where you had to race, i hated them and avoided them if i could. BUT since i've had my PS3 i've downloaded about 10 different driving game demos (motorstorm, Dirt, F1, Burnout Paradise, Need for speed pro street etc). Out of them all, two appealed most. Dirt and Motorstorm. ... ...desert in the USA, with a huge variety of vehicles (trucks, bikes, large rigs, buggies, cars etc), a banging sound-track and forgiving game-play (if you go off the track or destroy your vehicle you just get a brand new one placed back on the track). Dirt on the other hand is primaririly a rally driving game. Its fast, rough and unforgiving (there's terminal damage which will lead to you losing the race.) In the end i opted for DIRT.
DIRT is beautiful.

...fan of the original PlayStation Colin McRae Rally games, I had never spent that much time on the PS2 CMR games they just didn't keep my attention and draw me in, I kept them saying to myself I would play them again, but I rarely seemed to. This games seems to have gone back to the amount of fun of the early CMR games with arcade racing back not seen since CMR2 (maybe it was in CMR5?) and all sorts of other types of racing, and even some obscure types ... ...the sake of fun. Multiplayer online mode basically consists of people simultaneously racing at the same time on the same track to see who can make the fastest time, you can see where you are in relation to the other people in the race, its pretty basic but not bad. Of course as this is the first next gen CMR game it's not all give, I have yet to come across a night race or snow, the amount of countries seems to have shrunk to only 7, and you can't ...

This review is based on the full game. I have left at the bottom a quick review i did based on the demo version downloaded before the full game was released, in case anyone wants to read that.
I have now played the full game for a fair few hours. Its fair to say this game has had me hooked more than any other ... ...played one of the the Colin McRae games yearssss ago and loved it (on the PC) so i was hoping with the PS3 power this would be a hot game! ...i have been really pleased with the 3 race demo!!
