Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I can think of

How many of you have wanted to engage yourselves in a bit of stock buying and selling but backed due to either thinking that you were too small to participate or not knowing how to go about it? Comdirect Ltd, give you the opportunity, for the normal person, to do so and also provide you with the tools to give you a bit of insight and practice in the stock market business. Advantages Advantages Free £50 offer, No extra charge for telephone trades, Competitive charges, limit orders and stop losses, Instant funding of account

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need to set-up new passwords to enter research area

I joined Comdirect about six months ago while they had promotion offering free cash when opening an account. My other account is with Selftrade with whom I still hold a majority of my small portfolio. For details of their current special offer see the end of this opinion They charge £12.50 for all trades and this includes trades placed using the telephone. Most stockbrokers I have come across tend to charge extra if placing trades by telephone. Although Comdirect may not be the very cheapest in the market, they certainly offer the most features for the money. Selftrade also charge £12.50 per ... more

Advantages Advantages No frills, but all the thrills.

Disadvantages Disadvantages That is REAL money. Be careful!

If you, like me, occasionally fancy yourself as a bit of a wheeler-dealer, and fancy making a buck-or-two on the stockmarket, you could do far worse than taking a very close look at Comdirect.co.uk They are an execution-only (they don't offer advice) trading service, but the breadth of their services, and the low prices are astounding! They have been around a bit less than two years, but in my opinion they will go a long way. *** The Game This was my introduction to the company. comdirect run a monthly share dealing game, where each player is given £100,000 of play-money, and access to almost ... more

Advantages Advantages Set limit orders. Sharedealing game with prizes.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No virtual portfolio

ComDirect has to be the best online stockbroker that I have come across. I found their site by accident and registered for their online "Fantasy Sharedealing" game which was great fun although I didn't win. This is ideal for the novice trader and you are given a fixed amount of virtual money to buy and sell shares. You can view your position in a league table and I believe there are prizes for the top 10 dealers. Now the fun bit is over, here is the serious stuff. I do a lot of sharedealing and was tempted to open a real sharedealing account with ComDirect as they offered me £150 cash after my ... more

Advantages Advantages Just about all the data/tools you'll ever need and childsplay to navigate

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of debit/credit card funding facility and therefore very slow to set up first trade. Interest payable is a paltry 2.5%

Safe, comprehensive and childsplay to navigate, comdirect.com is a MUST for your bookmarks, whether or not you choose to use the company for on-line share dealing. I've tried much advertised share tracking software, costing up to £250. Now I've got FREE all the analysis tools, data, charts, up-to-date news I've ever wished for - all on a single click on my "favourites" list, with enabling downloads taking up a paltry 2kb of my Disk space! With every world market covered you can cancel your subscription to the FT. Without becoming a client, you can set up and track your own real or notional ... more

Advantages Advantages What better than £50 for free ? (Or £150 if you are lucky !!)

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

*** Offer now extended !! Email me if you want to be referred *** OK - who wants £50 for free ? Form an orderly queue please and make sure you read carefully what you need to do. Now, before I begin, let me point out that some of you may be lucky enough to be invited directly by Selftrade to open a dealing account - if this is the case I would recommend that you take it up and claim the £150 on offer. For those who are less fortunate, read on .... What is Comdirect ? Plain and simple, an online stockbroker. What are they offering ? Well £50 free for opening an account (more of that later). Advantages Advantages free £50 incentive, competitive charges, easy to use website with ability to set limit orders and stop loss orders, plenty of data in an easy to interpret form

    Disadvantages Disadvantages not that many!

I joined comdirect more than 18 months ago now, and enjoyed a very successful first 6 months. I haven't been as successful since, picked a couple of poor stocks and hung on to them for too long, but oh well, have still done ok. Comdirect charge a flat fee of £12.50 per trade, though you have to remember that when purchasing shares, you also have to pay 0.5% in Stamp Duty, not much but worth considering when considering your profit margins, thats if you make any profits of course! There is also the ability to trade in Exchange Traded Funds, such as iShares iFTSE100, where your investment is ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to use site, prompt service, very helpfull call centre

Disadvantages Disadvantages changed name to squaregain

How many time do you come across a company that changes it's name ? You find yourself asking why? Is it an excuse to give a bad company a good name, or put thier prices up. Well in this case it was a new owner that gave it a new name. Boursorama part of societe generale group are the new owners, and thankfully ,apart from a few tweeks, they have left it alone. Having used comdirect for a number of years I must admit I was somewhat nervous about this change of name and ownership. It usually spells the end of the service you have come to expect. But you will find the site easy to use for both ... more

    Advantages Advantages Introductory offer

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I have discovered yet

I opened a share dealing account in June 2001 and my account has been credited with £150. All I had to do was deposit cash into my account and then complete one purchase. I understand that if you transfer an existing share certificate then you can also open an account with comdirect. Before everybody tries to take advantage of this excellent offer, I have to say that I believe that you have to be invited to subscribe. I think that you can get invited by registering with comdirect first. I have existing online accounts with TD Waterhouse and Selftrade, and have to say that comdirect appears to ... more

Advantages Advantages only 12.5 per trade, cheap quick and easy!

Disadvantages Disadvantages lines are sometimes busy

I've been with comdirect for several months now and DEFINATELY recommend you use them! Although I haven't made much money, I've learned a great deal about investing- or in some cases who not to invest in ( Leeds United Plc was a personal disaster). It's really exciting, and who knows you might make some money. - User friendly interface - Investor resources (news, watchlist, recommendations, technical analysis..) - £12.5 per transaction (sometimes there's a limit on the number of shares but well above what you would expect) - Access to several international markets - buy online or via phone ... more
