...there's an Argos Superstore and Comet next to each other. Argos, again, didn't have what I wanted so the only other option was Comet next door.
The place is the size of a small airport hangar and all the sales personnel looked very, very bored and harassed. At least I knew where to call for help if I ever needed some.
The layout of the store didn't look very appealing to me. It was kind of the "stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap" kind. There was audio-visual ... ...My tip for shopping at Comet - and any other of the electrical superstores - do your homework. Know what you want and need, make a list of everything that is required. Don't bother asking any of the shop assistants, most of them won't even know what you are talking about. Don't fall for the extra insurance trick. If you have a high value good and want to have an extended warrantee, contact the manufacturer direct. Most of the time they will be able ...

...a mini disc player. Comet let us buy now and pay later...what a mistake that turned out to be. We checked the date for the payment to be taken with the date our student loans got paid in, and all seemed fine. Comet decided to take the money out a couple of days early, so we got charged! After much complaining we realised that we were wasting more money by calling them and let them off on this one...rah! Very annoying situation though.
The next incident ... ...went on to explain that Comet has such low prices because they buy the service agreements from the manufacturers and do them themselves. So, the Hotpoint man couldn't fix it!
So, Comet came out (after two months of waiting!) - do they not realise that teachers cannot leave work early!?! "Oh, I don't think that we'll be able to fix it, as it is just cosmetic damage!" was the response "but I'll see what we can do. I'll log it and be in touch". He ...

I wanted a DVD player, no more than £200, and since comet were offering three DVD’s with every DVD player they sell it was obviously the obvious choice. COMET claim these days that they don't have sales, just permanently low prices and state on TV that they price check around 34,000 prices every week (or some silly such figure) and are deemed to be one of the cheapest and best large electrical dealers around - having said all this, with the exception of Currys, alternative choice these days seems to be limited to small local companies who provide the personal touch, but charge the earth, or mainly ... ...I would never shop in Comet again. I’ve thought long and hard about writing this opinion. I try to ensure that all of my opinions are balanced and show both good and bad sides of whatever it is that I am reviewing. Having stumbled across this category when looking for something to write on, it occurred to me that I really should write about an experience I had with Comet last year when I bought a new cooker.
Firstly, let me give you a little ... ...many years before. However, Comet were in the process of moving from their existing site, at the end of an Industrial Estate, to a bigger site based at the entrance of the same estate. This meant that they were running down the stock in their current store, which in turn meant that there were several goods available at knockdown prices.
Bearing in mind that by this stage Mel was expecting any day, and we had a 21 month old who was quite happy to ...

Comet - good brands of all types of electrical appliances at reasonable prices. I give Comet this much credit, but a word of warning is do not opt for their interest free credit schemes available on most major appliances, unless you really have to. I had not visited Comet for some years, mainly as I thought they were a bit 2nd rate, this seemed to be confirmed by reviews I have read here on Ciao and elsewhere. However, when our washer broke we decided to give Comet a try.

Advantages: Could find a bargain Disadvantages: What you see is what they have.
Comet have a Clearance store at a retail park close to me ( its right next to Wembley Stadium actually).
There are no elaborate displays, none of the usual inviting colour schemes or layouts, it just looks like an abandoned shop thats being used to clear stock which is basically what it is, just rows of appliances divided up into washing machines, cookers, dishwashers, dryers etc and a section for TVs and other entertainment goods.
The products ... ...worth anything as long as Comet stay in business, but its no different to the 12 month guarantee that comes with a full priced appliance from the regular store, so if they go bust they go bust regardless of how much you paid or which store you bought it from.
I recently bought a washing machine that retails in Comet for £399 for £244 in this store. It had a scratch down one side that cant be seen once its in place. On the day I was in there, they ...
