Abandoned by his mother when he was just nine years old, by the time Royston Vasey was nineteen he had been married, divorced, had two children, spent two years in Borstal and...
more...several months in prison, and had been shot at in the Merchant Navy. By the time he was thirty-five, he was one of Britain's most successful comics, playing live to half a million fans a year as Roy 'Chubby' Brown. In COMMON AS MUCK he tells his incredible story. Frank, funny and - perhaps unexpectedly - often moving, it is a tale of a man battling to escape his background and become a star. From his impossibly deprived childhood to his controversial comic persona to his more recent battle against throat cancer, Roy 'Chubby' Brown's life is as remarkable and fascinating as the man himself.

Review of Common as Muck. The Autobiography of Roy 'Chubby' Brown - Roy Brown by TheWizardsSleeve

Advantages: honest, well balanced, written from the heart autobiography
Disadvantages: none

There cannot be many people who have heard of Royston Vasey although his alter ego, Roy "Chubby" Brown is well known to millions and there's no doubt many will have an opinion of him. I would wager that there are few people who sit on the fence where Chubby is concerned. He is very much an acquired taste and never makes any apologies for this. You will either love him or hate him. For the uninitiated, Chubby is a stand up comedian who operates ... Read review

Review of Common as Muck. The Autobiography of Roy 'Chubby' Brown - Roy Brown by brockysbird

Advantages: A hilarious insite to the rudest man in comedy !!!!!
Disadvantages: the only disadvantage is if you havnt read it !!!!

The only thing I knew about 'Roy Cubby Brown' was what I had learnt of him from his stand up comedy in his videos, growing up with holidays at Blackpool there were always tongues a wagging about the rudest man in comedy, but nobody knew the real Roy... Mr. Royston Vasey. As many now know Chubby was diagnosed with cancer and after reading the book I believe that's what inspired him to write this book about his life! I bought my book at Asda and it ... Read review

Review of Common as Muck. The Autobiography of Roy 'Chubby' Brown - Roy Brown by tredsaw

Advantages: Comical, Informative, Cheap, A Great Read!
Disadvantages: Time jumps a little confusing at first

A must read for fans of the legend that is, Roy 'Chubby' Brown. Not as rude and crude as his live performances, but it certainly is a 'from the heart' autobiography. Seemingly inspired by his recent fight with cancer, the story to's and fro's between the recent fight with cancer and his climb up the comedy ladder through the pubs and clubs of the North East to the biggest theatres in London. Details from his comedy route to the 'top' to his relationship ... Read review
