WELCOME NEW PEOPLE TO CIAO

Advantages: I hope it will help new people on here.
Disadvantages: some people may get bored

...used to be called the Community Page. Now it is called the Member Centre. This is the hub of Ciao, and there is a button at the top of the page when you are logged in that takes you to the Member Centre. Here, you can search for another member by name, by typing their name in the search box at the top of the page and pressing search. This is a handy item when you have read something by a member and want to get back to their page. ANNOUNCEMENTS ...
...announcements that may be important. Community Announcements will tell you about things going on in the Community and System Announcements is particularly interesting when things are going wrong with the site. There are usually reasons posted there about technical things that are going on. CIAO CHARTS **************** This section is divided into the charts for this week, and then on the right, the charts since Ciao started. It shows you the reviews ...

Trainspotting

Advantages: Lists.....
Disadvantages: A little dictatorial

...and problem with, the Ciao community centre. Now, I've just had a read through some of the other ops here and I'm going to do my best to avoid saying all the same stuff again. If you want to know how it works, check it out - it's pretty self explanatory and if you really don't get it there are plenty of other ops here written by people entirely deserving of your 2p who will tell you. What follows is my thoughts on what's good and what's not about ...
...my main gripe with the Community Centre as it stands is it's too much Ciao and not enough Community. ALl it really is is a source of information provided for our perusal by the Ciao team. So how about some more interactive elements? First of all, a message board or chat area, somewhere people can post notes about ops they like and don't, chat about the site and actually interact with each other directly - as, gasp, people in a non-virtual community ...

Is it truly communal...

Advantages: Interesting lists!
Disadvantages: Not very interactive

Ciao has a community centre – some newer or occasional members may be unaware of it as it is not widely advertised on the pages of Ciao. It boasts “It’s your Ciao! Make the most of your membership” – but how I wonder? To me a “community” suggests interaction – agreed Ciao itself needs that all the time with all the writing, reading, rating and commenting but coming to the Ciao “Community” ...
...a notice board than a community effort. True, you might argue that it is the centre of the Ciao “Community” but it depends on how literally you take the words I suppose. Enough rambling, if your ever care to click on the community centre links within Ciao (on the front page and on your profile page) what you will find is invariably somewhat out-of-date. There are the latest Member information notices from Ciao such as changes to the ...

An Evaluation

Advantages: Um
Disadvantages: Where do I start

...my second opinion posted in Community Centre. The 1st was only used as a gateway for something totally irrelevant and irreverent and was subsequently deleted, so this time I’ll try to stick to the subject. LOL. Ciao is essentially a consumer page where Tom, Dick or Harry, without registering, can view the members evaluations of a product. This is how Ciao can afford to give members payment for contributions. It is the life blood of this site ...
...Back to the Community Centre to keep this opinion on board. This section has caused all sorts of contretemps among the members. I personally think the set up is all wrong. I will give you my personal opinion on the helpfulness, using Ciao’s rating system, and the comments section is at your disposal to voice your opinion on my opinion. THISWEEK ~~ Most Read Authors. This is the most misleading list in the centre. Member A writes 30 opinions ...

Benefits everyone

Advantages: Motivation, extra exposure and praise
Disadvantages: A lot of members are against it

Community Centre The Ciao Community Centre was introduced to us just over a month ago now and it has sparked a little controversy amongst the Ciao members. Here is my opinion on the community centre and after reading many other opinions I hope to be able to inform new and old members of some of the advantages and disadvantages of the centre and what my overall thoughts are. So let’s start with the features: Newsflash ~ This section has all the ...
...missed. That is the Community Centre in a nut shell, although there are many other links to important areas of the site, i.e. Abuse – you can report any one you think maybe abusing the system, Contact – contact Ciao and provide them with feedback or ask them a question they will always endeavour to get back you as soon as possible. Personally I think that the community centre is a great idea it is my first stop of point every time I log in I read ...

Use it for your Benifit

Advantages: Very useful info especially for new members
Disadvantages: None

The Community Center is one of the least used areas of the Ciao site and at the same time one of the most important. It is not only a very important area for the new members but also for the more established member. So what does the Community Center offer us that is so important and relevant to our activity here. I will try to go through each area of the Community Center and provide with the necessary details. Newsflash ------------ All important ...

Condeming Ciao to the Grave

Advantages: Ability to write freely and openly
Disadvantages: Distorting the focus of the site and ultimately its downfall

...which fall outside of the community category which are unpaid). Maybe they were provided in response to DooYoo, who for a long time have offered similar categories, with increasing success. My problem with them though is simple. If more and more people take to writing lists of their top ten TV programmes, what are Ciao going to gain? Manufacturers and consumer research people are, on the whole, not likely to want to know what your favourite animal ...
...putting together my few, true community opinions (10 most annoying phrases, smoking and music in general) but the top ten list got me thinking. What is Ciao all about? DooYoo have recently had to pull back on some of their community opinions as, as a result of fairly new legislation, they felt that they were running a risk by publishing some of the material that was on the site. So as not to have to closely monitor the offending areas they pulled ...

Like it or lump it, is that how it should be

Advantages: The charts are a good idea, as is the message board
Disadvantages: Not enough member interaction, late updating of news (especially about payment) and the charts are easily abused by churners right now

The community centre has now been around for a while and I am beginning to understand the full use of it, both positive and negative. Before I begin though, I ought to tell you how to access the community centre page. The easiest way is to simply click the link on the left (accessable from your 'my account' page). It's the last link in the box and has the 'new' symbol next to it. The page should then load. The first thing you will notice on the ...
...interesting parts to the Ciao community centre too. One is the contact addresses on the left of the screen near the bottom. Annoyingly these can only be used if you have an 'on computer' email program such as outlook express. Being a hotmail user, I dont and so this is rather useless. In fact, its worse than that because it crashed my system if I try to click on them (it puts up a message saying cannot open this application as there is no working ...

KILLING TO CLIMB THE CIAO RANKS

Advantages: Promotion of new members, communication portal
Disadvantages: THE LEAGUE TABLES = Jealousy, contempt & bitterness

...going to explain what the community centre is – that is like teaching my Grandmother to suck eggs. But something has prompted me to write this opinion and I think something needs to happen pretty quickly if we are to protect our community here at Ciao. As you all know, you can pop to the community centre to read any updates from the Ciao team, see a list of all the new active members of the day and to sit and analyse (if you so wish!) who ...

So come on guys……PLEASE take some action before we lose the community aspect that has kept Ciao strong for over a year! Support and comment on this opinion if you agree with me. What am I referring to? Those damn league tables. I hate them! Earlier in the year Ciao asked us what we all thought about them and we ...

Stop moaning...The results are in.UPDATED

Advantages: Highlights new members. Has the potential to bring Ciao members closer together.
Disadvantages: Encourages higher reads of well-known authors on the site. Makes it harder for good but less well known writers to get high levels of reads.

...protested and complained about the Community Centre, and Ciao have listened to our suggestions. First they changed the charts to include only member reads. Then they asked us all what we thought of the charts so we could democratically vote on the matter. Then they actually used the results to make changes in a very fair way. Isn't it nice to know if we have a problem with the site that if enough people agree Ciao will try to rectify it! For the ...

Please leave your comments in the comments section, as we can now be sure that if someone comes up with an idea that enough other members want there is a very real chance it will be implimented! Cafe competition...a reward at last

Advantages: Sociability, writing, creativity
Disadvantages: lack of rewards and recognition

...so much to both the community and the cafe I doubt I could cover it all if I tried in this op,so instead I will stick to the point of my writing this piece and hopefully you will all bear with me. ***Cafe section and its rewards*** All established and many new memebers are familiar with the prize fund and the monthly competition and how it all works. A spin off effect of this is that the members magazine ...

The Ciao Community Spirit

Advantages: Very easy to use, helpful to see what's going on
Disadvantages: Could expand more, with daily votes etc

The Community Centre is a fairly new section on Ciao. Its intention is to keep up the community spirit on Ciao and to keep everyone happy. It also gives you information about what is going on at Ciao at the moment and lots of other things you may want to know about. Finding the Community Centre... The ComC, as I will call it here, can be found by, from any page on Ciao, clicking on the Ciao.com logo at the top of the page. Then, on the homepage, ...
...Wanted... Like on most community pages on Ciao, you'll find the Most Wanted section. This, as you most probably know, is where a top member is put for a month and they rotate with ten other members on the community pages, so when you see the homepage, you can go to Saltire and read her! So this, as you can imagine, is very good. Anyone who is even nominated for the Most Wanted should feel very proud of themselves. As you can imagine, it's very ...

Advantages: Some good ideas
Disadvantages: Misleading about payment time, poor email links and no real community spirit. In fact its just an overhyped message board

...to write about the Ciao community centre but before I begin I felt it only fitting to write about the Ciao community spirit. As you are reading this, you are probably one of those who reads, rates and gets their due reward for doing so from the site. The Community Centre Sucks

Advantages: The info
Disadvantages: The charts

The Community Centre is a relatively new addition to Ciao, and despite the fact that I go there quite a lot it really isn't a very good idea. Some of it is very useful, but other parts give a pretty bad idea of what Ciao's about. Before I slate it, first I'll cover the good points. The new members list is a good idea, as it is often hard for a new writer to be noticed. This gives them a bit more coverage, and if they use it well (i.e.. write good ...
...the best thing about the Community centre is the way that the staff at Ciao (well, the people over in France) use it as a message board to let people know what's going on. Or at least that's the idea. It mustn't take more than a few minutes to update this page, yet last month when Ciao were having all those problems they didn't keep everyone up to date with information, leading to rumours and a lot of bitterness. It's a good idea to use this area ...
