Advantages Advantages A brand new machine at a bargain price.

Disadvantages Disadvantages May be cosmetically marked with rough packaging.

I had an old home built computer. 166 Pentium, I Meg Hard Disk 32Mb memory with just a CD-Rom running Windows 95 in an AT case. My son had an Elonex with a 366 Pentium 11, 6Meg Hard Disk 64Mb memory with a CD-Rom running Windows 98. It all started with the unsucessful attempt to add a CD-RW and DVD player to his machine. I had been considering upgrading my machine for over a year, but it would require a complete new start. I was also nervous about building a machine with Windows xp due to problems of incompatible or non-existent drivers. By a very roundabout route weighing up various options ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast, Fast, FAST!!! (Oh yeah... and easy to set up and use, too.)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Huh?!!? No stereo speakers?!?!

"Ho-lee smm–mmokes!! Willya juss lookit dat!!!... unbeliev... Hubba!! Hubba!!... AYAY-YESSSS... YEEEEE-HAHHH!!!... WAHHH-HOOEEE!!" And that, ladies and gentlemen, very precisely summarizes my thought and speech patterns for the first 30 minutes after I initially fired up my new computer last week. For a while there, I guess I must've sounded like an incomprehensible, blithering idiot. Now that I’ve regained my composure – and a renewed ability to form coherent sentences – I’m here to offer some initial observations about the Compaq Presario 5004US. It’s the ... more

Advantages Advantages All in one basic solution

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The price..

RRP: £765. This is very much an entry-level home PC aimed at the first-time buyer. The core specification is actually pretty basic, with an AMD K6-2/533 processor in the driving seat, backed by a skimpy 64MB of SDRAM and an 8GB Western Digital hard disk. Graphics are handled by an integrated Trident Blade3D accelerator which actually borrows 8MB of system memory for its own use, leaving only 56MB for everything else. This doesn't do performance any good, and the Trident chip isn't much of a 3D accelerator either, so you aren't looking at the sort of machine that will appeal to keen gamers ... more

Advantages Advantages After Sales Product Support

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unwanted Pre-Installed Software

Fast, reliable, good looks, stable ... to mention a few, but enough about me, I`m here to talk about the Compaq Presario 6097EA. Ah, who am I kidding, course I mean the PC. I have had it for about 6 months now and is an upgrade from a Compaq Presario 2292 which I had for about 4 years. Yes, that`s the downside, 4 years ago I had a state-of-the-art machine and nowadays it just doesn`t cut the mustard. Here`s a list of what you are going to get for your money: *Intel Pentium 4 2.2ghz processor Should suffice for even the most intensive applications! This can be upgraded in the future as it is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Quality brand

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard and anoying to upgrade

I have had my Compaq Pressario 5400 PC for over 2 years now and with the expansion of technology, it quickly became out-dated. That seems to be the only problem with buying a PC these days, having to upgrade it every few years, which turns out to be quite expensive. For a tower PC it was quite small, but looked attractive and wasn't too heavy in weight. I think i paid arround £899 for it, which was average at the time but not very good in today's terms. One of the main problems i found with this PC is the amount of space it gives you inside and it makes it a nightmare to upgrade because of the ... more

    Advantages Advantages fast, reliable

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I started with computers almost 8 years ago and have owned Packard Bell, Hewlitt Packerd, Gateway and now my compaq Presario. I said I would never buy a compaq because I had worked at a major retail store in the computer department and there were always so many returns on them that I figured they must not be a good computer. My last one was a Gateway which should be another opinion as I had nothing but problems with it. I work from home and can't have my computer down so I went computer shopping. The only thing I could find that had what I wanted was Compaq so I figured okay why not. It's been ... more

Advantages Advantages It is a high quality brand and very fast

Disadvantages Disadvantages The grffics card sometimes finds it hard to cope

When looking for a PC I knew that it had to have a high specification to be able to keep up with the fast moving market. When finding a Compaq with such good specification and not a huge price tag I was highly surprised. Its well known that Compaq are one of the best computer manufacturers in the world, and its good to know that you are buying something that is reliable. I managed to pick up my Compaq Presario in the PC world sale. I paid £1150 for it and managed to save £300. Its got a 900mhz processor and the pc makes full use of it. It make suse of the 64mb of RAM, this much RAM isn't ... more

Advantages Advantages Too many to mention, lots of nice features, big monitor pre installed software

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't honestly think of any, perhaps the built in microphone will require updated to a close talk mic

The compaq pressario range seems to be getting a lot of flak, I have to say that in the case of the 7481 range of desktop pcs it is totally undeserved. I changed from a Hewlett-Packard pc to this compaq model in July just passed and I am thoroughly happy (except for a minor glitch with the speakers which is being sorted out). I opted for this model as it appeared to be overall the best on offer, taking into consideration price and features which I absolutely required due to the fact that I run my own business. For example Dvd player, cd rom, cd re-writer, usb ports, large memory and a big clear ... more

    Advantages Advantages Small and light

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as much memory as newer models

This model is excellent for its size - very small desktop processor meaning it is also very lightweight! It has 4gig of memory and this is just about satisfactory as long as you don't have millions of new games to take up tonnes of memory. Installation is easy as with all of Compaq's recent models the sockets are all colour matched to the appropriate wires - saving a lot of time and hassle. It is expandable/upgradeable to improve its current features. It comes with an internal modem and microphone, so online voice chat is easy at a touch of your Internet buttons on the well-designed keyboard ... more

Advantages Advantages The package deal for a hectic lifestyle

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Warranty

In my opinion, the Compaq Presario 7940 Athlon 600MHz 30GB 128MB is a highly average choice. It is Windows 2000 compatible, which is still relatively workable. It's retro appearance is appealing to the eye and they do put together captivating packages to reel their customers in, but are you getting what your paying for? Personally I think not. They put a package together to make it seem like a bundled deal because the world we live in today is consistently ready to get up and go. When the consumer seeks out to buy a new computer the so-called packaged "bargain" seems a lot more efficient and ... more
