    Probably not everyone’s first choice when purchasing a new computer, but as you will see if you read on Compaq computers are surprisingly good. The only draw back I feel is that they are a tad on the expensive side. ** My Experience ** Over the last year the company that I work at has gradually started to buy Compaq computers. At first I wasn't sure about them as for as long as I have worked there they have always bought Dell computers and I was quite happy with these.     Compaq is a great machine to purchase and they have great products to offer but thier website is not a easy one to navigate. It's hard to find any sort of upgrade information. If you are looking for certain drivers for your products it's hard to find them. If they have them at all. The worst part about buying direct from compaq is the price. I have found that thier products are generally less through a store or other site. I wouldn't recommend using thier site for anything other than finding what new products they might have out.     This is a very good computer company. The companies computers, are very good value, they are very good quality, but best of all the customer service is absolutely excellent. They are very good, if anything ever goes wrong with your computer you just ring up, a toll free number and they will sort out your problems. The people at customer services are alos very polite and friendly to you, even if you have done something completely stupid to your computer.     About two months ago I bought a compaq preserio 1200 XL103 notebook. I had been looking for a laptop for about a month. I have been particularly pleased with the performance of my machine (475 mhz k6-2 6Gb and TFT screen) Unfortunately after about 2 weeks I crashed the machine and was not able to get it going. I telephoned the tech support and found them to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They had me up and running fairly quickly. The only moan I have is the cost of tech support.     Compaq is a very good place to buy all of your computer software and hardware.I frequently visit because I have never visited and found that they do not have what I am searching for but if they ever did I know they would have it in just a couple of days.This place is good for people of any age because it has everything from computer games to hard drives.There are plenty of Compaq retailers around so where ever you live you shouldn't have to travel far to get to a store.It is also a lot cheaper than most places even though it sells all the same quality goods. ... more

    Hi, I thought I would venture into unknown territory today and try to write about computers. My family are always telling me how terrible I am with technology, and the embarassing thing is they're right. I just about manage to turn the computer on and stumble through my favourite websites, but ask me anything about memory and graphics and all you will get is a blank look.     Nothing indicates someone who hasn't got a clue about computers than choosing Compaq. A doubt if there is a worse combination than their dire pcs and profiteering attitude. I had a Prolinear model. Ugly looking thing and quite expensive, heavy too. Worked well and was always reliable. But as time went by I needed to upgrade it. On opening it I realised just what was so bad about Compaqs. Nonstandard components and fittings, low power psu, no ability to get to the bios to change settings.     I have a Compaq at home as one pof two computers i own. I also have a laptop from work. The Compaq support is by far the best of the bunch. From the initial software supplied with the machine; including a cd to restore the PC to factory defaults; to the excellent helpline I have always found Compaqs support to be excellent. I have at times asked some pretty obscure questions as I am a support engineer for IT and therefore normally I can fix most things.     It was Christmas 1996 when I was given a Compaq Presario 4108 as a gift(A very expensive one at that!). It was the first PC my family ever owned and it was so exciting the first time we booted it up. It went through 4 years of abuse and it didn't fail once(OK maybe i had to re-install windows several times but it was always reliable). In 2000 I was about to start university and needed a new PC. I decided to buy another compaq presario(7482) as I had good experiences with the previous one. I bought it as part of a deal from Dixons(see my op on Dixons) and was quite pleased with what I got.     I have two compaq computers. One laptop and a desktop. I have owned in the past several other brands and found the Compaq to give the best long term service and is very dependable. There service techs are easy to talk to and helpful. I would recommend a Compaq over all others. You may pay slightly more but the extra is worth it. I have found the Compaq monitors higher than others and would recommend buying another brand monitor if possible. But the best deals come with the package price. You can deal with most salesman and they will bend to comform with your needs. Shop around for the best ... more
