A Very Remarkable PDA

Advantages: Features and functions, operational speed, compact
Disadvantages: None

...site, I settled for a Compaq iPAQ H3630 Pocket PC. The cost was STG.320.00 which many may find expensive. This pocket PC is amazing. It has 16 MB of ROM, which holds the Win CE operating system. It has 32 MB of RAM, which is for your data storage and any other programs you might want to install. It is very lightweight and compact and weighs just 6 ounces. A very important feature is that you can allocate how much of the 32MB you want for your ...
...programs. The operating speed and performance is just brilliant and it has a 206 MHz Intel processor. You can run several programs at once without losing out on the performance. The looks also are just great. Very eye catching with its silver casing. You get a lot of envious looks. The colour display is probably what sets it apart from the rest. The spec is a LCD 4096 with 240 x 320 version. The screen is clearly visible even in adverse light conditions. ...

My best friend, or maybe not

Advantages: Synchronisation with MS Office, very clear screen
Disadvantages: Data input too fiddly, difficult to use in a hurry

I’ve owned an iPAQ for three months now and would like to offer some thoughts on it after using it pretty extensively during that period. Some of what I say will be applicable to all PDAs, and some only to the iPAQ. I start the review by describing the iPAQ then offer some thoughts about PDAs in general. The best features of the iPAQ in my view are the screen, and the connectivity. The colour screen is just beautiful. It is very high definition, ...
...with six back-light settings, from the lowest powersave dim light, to the “super bright” which for short periods of use in daylight, or under fluorescent lights, lets the display shine out really clearly. There is also an “Automatic” mode which adjusts the light according to the conditions at the time. The touch-screen system works really well. I find I can operate it with a finger and rarely have to use the stylus (which ...

IPAQ SchmIPAQ

Advantages: big enough too see off a serious mugger
Disadvantages: heavy enough to prevent escape from a serious mugger

...a Palm V and a Compaq IPAQ 3850. I am crying quietly. Why? Because having been quite content with my Palm V for several years I recently convinced myself that I needed an IPAQ. What a prat. To exacerbate matters, I didn't just settle for a basic unit. Oh no, I had to go the whole hog and get the SatNav jacket and all the full nine yards didn't I? After a brief (and I MEAN brief) honeymoon with the thing I have come to the conclusion that the IPAQ ...
...twice as bug-ridden and has half the battery life of the Palm. As if that wasn't enough, it has an operating system which, like its big brother Windows, needs to have a lie down every now and again. To accuse it of being underdeveloped would be to do an injustice to underdeveloped things. The one saving grace of the IPAQ is its brilliant colour screen quality. However, having said that, I would gladly trade screen quality for a battery life long ...

The IPAQ Exposed - Updated

Advantages: Data Connection with Orange
Disadvantages: price tag

The Compaq IPAQ See my reviews under the PALM III, The PALM IIIc, The Aero, and Jornada for comparisons. I have used my IPAQ now for about six months and I am very impressed. It is fast and easy to use and looks absolutely great, I can do everything that I need to do and more and best of all is the ooooohs and aaaaahhhhs from my very jealous friends ;-)) I have the 3630 but I am looking to upgrade to the 3660 and my man in the know from compaq ...
...- Great Peripherals ----------- Compaq do a good range of peripherals like memory expansion and modems but they are far too expensive so I have not trialed any. Overall ---------- The IPAQ steaals a march over the opposition with good looks and a very wide range of additonal features which are easy to use and work well in conjunction with the desktop PC. I would say that the IPAQ is for the person who requires easy to use diary/organisation ...

"The Compaq Pocket PC 3870" Theres something in there that gives you a clue as to what it is. Can you guess which bit? Yup, thats right, "pocket PC". There have been many PDA's (Personal Digital Assistant) over the last few years that have claimed to be "pocket PC's", but few could really live up to the expectation that the name gives. Good but troublesome

Advantages: Quick, easy to use, easy sync of Microsoft programs
Disadvantages: No support for non-Microsoft software, crashing, battery life, user manual... what manual

The reps where I work all have laptop pc's so that they can write letters, e-mail and run a central contact database. They were always complaining that they were too large, took too long to boot-up and were not practical to use when visiting customers. The older PDA's weren't up to doing what was required since they were slow and had limited memory. Times have changed, so my company decided to get them all iPAQ's to run alongside their laptops. I ...
...can see from the picture that the device is one of the best looking on the market. It also has a very solid feel to it although we did have a couple with terminal problems, but to be fair they were replaced very promptly. The device operates under Windows CE, so if you use Windows 95 or a later version (most of us) you'll feel right at home as soon as you switch it on. It has the familiar Windows feel, with the start button, programs, settings etc ...

The best Christmas present I ever bought myself

Advantages: Fast, sleek, expandable, runs Windows, lots of third party support
Disadvantages: Difficult to get accesories in UK, bit pricey, shame it's not 64MB

I love gadgets! And this is my new favourite! Although I had a few problems finding out how to do things, now I’ve got the hang of it I cannot find fault with the iPAQ. I have a Nokia 6210 mobile phone, which means I can connect to the Internet with my iPAQ at 28.8k. The iPAQ has a copy of Internet Explorer, which means I could use Yahoo the other day in a hotel in Scotland to look for local distilleries to visit. It’s smooth and sleek ...

The screen is crystal clear and seems to be scratch resistant. The syncing is trivial and I had it up and running in minutes. Microsoft Active Sync also allows me to browse the filing system from my desktop and mange ...

The iPaq 6 months on

Advantages: Looks, TFT screen, ARM power,
Disadvantages: Battery life, software limitations

...Palm V and bought the Compaq iPaq 32Mb. I wanted more memory space and I liked its looks, feel and potential. I have now been using for 6 months and can report the following pros and cons. The iPaq is first of all a substantial investment but at the time was the best around so I took the plunge. The feedback I get from colleagues with Casio and HP Pocket PCs has backed up this opinion so far. It's high resolution colour screen makes using it as ...

Amazing little toy

Advantages: Portable and sleek, value for money
Disadvantages: Not many pocket applications to choose from

Well to say the Compaq ipac is a toy is an understatement. The ipac is actually a pc with mobility which fits into your pocket. Standard applications include pocket word, pocket excel, email, windows media player to play mp3 songs, electronic books, and what's more, games. Two games are available, solitaire and office chaos. Of course, you can download other pda compatible games like Quake, which actually runs. But the disadvantage is the controls ...
...practically under the control of the mighty pen. But then there is the standard keyboard and character recognition with an auto-fill mechanism for suggesting words even before you complete them. With the Windows CE OS, launching the applications is quick. But the limitations for such a small pc is often its memory space. With 32Mb ram (though more than double the memory on similar Palm units), everything comes small. But processor power is good, ...

Go for grey

Advantages: Battery life, battery life, and um... battery life
Disadvantages: Less memory than 3630, not colour (is that really so bad?)

...three reasons why buying the Compaq iPAQ 3130 was the right decision to make - the battery life, the battery life and the battery life. Forget about the fact that the monochrome screen is more easily visible in varying light than the colour model, or that it weighs slightly less than the colour version, this thing just keeps going. It's like the energiser bunny but useful. Is there a drawback to having the 3130? Yes. The 3130 is fitted with a measly ...
...standard on the 3630. Does this cause me a problem? Sometimes, but I solve it with careful and regular synchronisation with my laptop. It's not the ideal solution, but it's preferable to adding an expansion jacket and a compactflash card (well it is to me, anyway). In conclusion - if you can, take the grey option. ...

iPAQ PocketPC Now goes 2002

Advantages: Compact, Great Screen
Disadvantages: Not enough memory, No CF Slot

I bought this about a month ago and it keeps me organised at home and work. Integration into outlook and the ability to read word documents helps me so I can catch up on emails when things get busy at work. A lot of additional software can also be downloaded from the Internet and installed onto the iPAQ via your PC. I use www.pocketgear.com to look for games etc. There are two areas that you need to get used to on this device. Firstly the handwriting ...
...the instructions on where to write the characters as it makes a big difference. The screen is small so some documents that look great on your PC will be difficult to navigate on the iPAQ. If you buy an iPAQ PocketPC now you will get a free upgrade to the new super PocketPC 2002. It makes the iPAQ even better than it already is. In the UK Dixons are doing a great bargin on the 32mb version. Though the memory is quite small for a PocketPC you can ...

Battery just doesn't cut the mustard

Advantages: Flashy looks and slim design
Disadvantages: Battery life - need I say more?

...inputting data far easier. Compaq originally boasted that on it's brightest setting, the ipaq could be used as an emergency torch. They're not wrong. The picture is incredibly bright and the colours are excellent. However, the main shortcoming that consistently lets the 3660 down is the battery. You can't replace it yourself, and it runs down so fast I carry my charger with me everywhere. For a computer that is supposed to be handheld and portable, ...
...into the mains. Kind of like those old remotes that were attached to the TV with a wire. Funky. The sound quality of the little speaker is also rubbish, but I didn't expect it to be decent. The sound is ok if you plug in headphones. The buttons are conveniently and stylishly placed and are easy to use. The navigator key is also pretty useful for looking through long text files. One of my favourite features is the button release for the stylus, ...
