Compaq ipaq 3870

AdvantagesGreat build quality. good range of accesories

DisadvantagesBattery life not great and battery built into unit

"I have had my ipaq since early august. The pda has proved to be reliable and very useful. I use it on a daily basis and have yet to find any real problems. The ipaq has one of the best screens of any pda and has 64mb of memory. You get pocket pc versions of most of the usual microsoft programs. Beware that you know that these are not the same as the microsoft aplications on the pc. They are cut down versions and although you can exchange data between ..." Read review

Long term useage - gets my 'thumbs up'

AdvantagesA pc in the pocket

Disadvantagesscreen difficult to see in bright sunshine

"...new, certainly HP, who own Compaq , no longer have it listed to purchase as new in their online shop. (the 38xx series has been replaced by the 39xx) but many are available on eBay and similar, some with extras, usually around £200 mark. ..." Read review

I've never been so organised!

AdvantagesDoes everything you need it to

DisadvantagesNightmare to set up Bluetooth dial-up (not necessarily a fault of the iPaq though)

"...hardware providers (in my case Compaq and Nokia). However, thanks to a very helpful man on the data team at O2, I managed to get the two connected after about an hour and three atempts at different settings. If you're having problems, persevere - it's well worth it. The Inbox is great as you can set up your POP3 settings and get email very quickly - but the Internet access is alot slower and I'd only use that in an emergency. The battery is ..." Read review

Great PDA for the price of a calculator

AdvantagesA portable GPS for the price of a calculator.

DisadvantagesSlow compared to the latest PDA's

"Ive had my trusty IPAQ 3870, for almost 2 years now. At the time I paid £200 for it and now I see you can get them for about £40. Its a great little machine. Its got Bluetooth, Infrared, a voice recorder, notebook, address book, calculator etc etc. The best use that I have is as a Satellite navigation device. I hook it up in the car, connect it to a sat receiver (approx £30) and run some software called "Destinator" and it tells me where to go. ..." Read review

Good all round PDA.

AdvantagesReasonably Light, Ergonomic, Easy to set up and use.

DisadvantagesScreen can be hard to see in direct sunlight and smallish memory to start with.

"My main use for the PDA is as a portable PC, laptops aren't all that easy to carry around and just not as easy as putting a PDA in your pocket or clipping it onto your belt. The iPaq is a good all round PDA, it has all the software you need and any extra software is easily found and simply installed. I know this is an older PDA now, but it has a good system, runs very fast and is very simple to set up and use. The number of accessories that are ..." Read review
