Probably the only easy-to-read Computer Magazine

AdvantagesSimple and clear advice, Interesting articles, Product Reviews

DisadvantagesAdverts, Reviews sometimes too short

"Computer Active (I'll call it CA) is a monthly PC/computer/technology magazine that can be found in most newsagents and supermarkets. It currently costs £1.59, which I feel is reasonable and seems to be cheaper than many other computer magazines, although it used to cost £1.35 before prices started to shoot up all over the place. The magazine is usually just over 80 pages long and contains varied articles for the reader relating to new development ..." Read review

THE PEOPLE'S COMPUTER MAG

AdvantagesNo complex jargon, Great value, Full of interesting articles

DisadvantagesCan contain lots of adverts

"...in certain articles. However, since computeractive launched a few years back, the magazine has had massive appeal to both advanced computer users and those who are completely new to it. I don’t quite know how they manage it, but this magazine has held my interest right from the beginning – I got issue one (back in the days when I new absolutely nothing remotely to do with computers) and I now have a subscription and know loads more about the beige ..." Simply computer active

AdvantagesCost, information, jargon free, features, offers

DisadvantagesNot weekly

"I was never trained to work with computers at school, in fact the only computers I was aware of as a child, was the ones that NASA used to get men to the moon & the ones that were used for picking the premium bonds winners every month. Things the size of a garden shed with tape reels whizzing round inspected by people in white coats!! About 15 years ago when I changed jobs I was given a lap top for work use, it had Windows 3.1 operating system ..." Read review

As stated...simple clear advice!

AdvantagesEasy read, interesting information, great price

DisadvantagesThe price of this magazine keeps climbing!

"Computeractive is a magazine that I have been buying for the last two years. Its not one that I buy every time it comes out, but I will buy it when I see that there's a main feature that I have an interest in, a workshop that could come in handy or I need something to read. This magazine is released every two weeks and costs £1.35 but this has increased quite considerable over the last couple of years. I was paying £1 back in the beginning for an ..." Read review

"When I bought my computer bundle a couple of years ago. I paid over £1,000 for it. This as you can imagine left me just a little poor. There I was with a pc I had very little knowledge about and no spare cash to afford expert tuition. What made things worst, as I had bought a bundle I had quite a few programs that I had no idea about. For instance, the pc I first used was a very old thing out of the ark. It didn’t even have a cd writer so when I ..." Read review

COMPUTERACTING MADE EASIER

AdvantagesFull of interesting/relevant content

Disadvantagesn/a

"After stumbling upon simondh's op a week or so ago on ciao re; computeractive, it reminded me of the magazines existence. I bought an issue well over a year ago before buying my pc - it was a bumper special issue for only 99 pence - and i was just starting to dabble in computers outside the work environment. It was an informative issue but, that was all there was to it at the time as i hadn't a pc and thus no further interest. Since rediscovering ..." Read review

SIMPLE and CLEAR computer advice - 2005 review

AdvantagesStraight to the point, simple, clear computing advice

DisadvantagesPossibly a little repetitive, a little too much advertising

"In my experience, ComputerActive has been a great aid in many things I've done in computing. Published on a fortnightly basis, ComputerActive now costs £1.35 per issue and is packed full of USEFUL advice. I started buying the ComputerActive 1 and a half years ago. I noticed it was £1.30 then, and was interested in what it had to say about computers. Back then, I wasn't too clued up about computers, so I thought it would be a bit too 'techie' for ..." Advantagesexcellent, easy to read and understand

Disadvantagespremium cost helpline

"...have written this Op on Computeractive going on what i rememember of the mag when i used to buy it. Although i now read more technical and detailed PC magazines, i still have kept every copy i bought and regard Computeractive as an invaluable PC users resource! I, like most others, had very little knowledge of PCs or the Internet when i first got my PC. I mean, i knew how to rig up the computer and modem, and how the principal of it all worked, ..." Not very sexy but still a helluva read

AdvantagesFull of useful articles and advice

DisadvantagesNone

"Why do publishers persist in sticking pictures of semi nude women on the front of Internet magazines ? Silly question really I suppose because if we are honest (blokes that is) it does attract us to the mag, if only just to pick it up under the pretence of flicking through it whilst ogling the front page ! Then again though how many people are actually influenced to buy it because of that? I would hope that people aren’t so shallow as to ..." Read review

Top Mag-Top Buy

AdvantagesVery informative-written in plain english great value

DisadvantagesNone really

"I’m not a technophobe by any means, but wanting to know all the intricacies and every detail about my pc doesn’t really interest me. There are certain things I want to know about that will improve my knowledge, and use of my computer, but I want to be able to understand what I’m reading about. I don’t want to read articles that are full of techno speak and jargon that leave me feeling like an idiot (even if I am!). Occasionally ..." Read review

Buy this for great computer advice

Advantagesgreat value and informative

Disadvantagesnone

"I recently purchased an issue of Computer Active magazine for the special offer of a £1. It is a fortnightly publication, and normally retails at a very reasonable price of £1.20. The issue 've just read has 98 pages. Great value at virtually a penny a page ! And in full colour too . The pages are not glossy but that dosen't matter a jot to me . I'm more concerned about the content and on that score - Computer Active is excellent. In fact I can't ..." Read review

An cheap, easy to read computer magazine

AdvantagesCheap, easy to read, good content, excellent for beginners

DisadvantagesMay not please the 'pro' computer users

"Computer Active is one of those really easy reading magazines. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean that the content is lacking and it has as much useful information in it as some of the ‘big boys’ magazines (PC Pro etc). The first thing to be said about it is that it is the cheapest computer magazine that you will find at only £1.20 per fortnight. There are others that are slightly cheaper (Web User as an example) but this concentrates on the Internet ..." Read review

Great magazine

AdvantagesNo many adverts, very eay to understand, great articles about useful things.

DisadvantagesNo free Cd's

"Well what do we get with “Computer Active” magazine? is it just another boring computer magazine full of endless adverts?, the answer is NO. Computer Active (at a very low price of £1.20) is a very good magazine with lots of useful items in it, it is out every fortnight (I have been buying it since the first issue), but I have to confess I have not bought it for a couple of issue’s, but don’t let this distract you from it.
