Advantages Advantages plot, style of writing, humour

Disadvantages Disadvantages slow to begin with, couldn't relate to the character 100% (but that's not the books fault)

A while ago I rented the film version of Sophie Kinsella's "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and I found it to be an enjoyable watch that passed on a bit of time. I reviewed the film and some of the comments I recieved from my fellow review writers mentioned that the book differed from the film and was well worth a read. Regular readers of my reviews will know that my type of book is generally horror and with the exception of reading a Marion Keyes book when I was desperate one year when I was abroad 'Chick-Lit' really isn't my genre or usual taste. However, there is a first for everything, and as ... more

Confessions of a Shopaholic, by Sophie Kinsella This book was originally titled ‘The Secret Dream World of a Shopaholic’, so you may have heard of either title. After finishing ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s best friend’ (which I reviewed on here yesterday) in just two days, I was in a reading mood and craving something else to read. I was on holiday with the family, which can be like a holiday to hell at times!! (no offence to my lovely family of course!) So, I needed something else to read or I could see I was going to get in a mood and probably end with being annoyed or angry with my two younger ... more

Advantages Advantages a super and amazing book!

Disadvantages Disadvantages none in my opinion, although people may not like the letters!

After seeing the movie trailers being shown repetitive all over the TV, I just couldn't refuse to read this book after it popped through my door. And I'm so glad that I did, because I totally enjoyed it, as you can tell by my rating of the book. Sophie Kinsella is a new author to me, and although I know some of the books she has written, this is the first book I've ever read from her. I have just found out that Sophie Kinsella is a pseudonym used by Madeleine Wickham. I have to admit I dislike people who use a pseudonym; it aggravates me to think that authors such as Meg Cabot and Anne Rice ... more

    Advantages Advantages Characters, Interesting

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not for everyone, better books out there.

Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is also known by its original name, Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic. I bought this book, because I had seen the advert for the film and thought it looked great, when I saw the book I thought it might be worth a read. The book centres around Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist who’s sinking in her mountains of debt. Living with the high life with a great flat and wardrobe, she has been in denial about the fact that she cant actually afford it. She realizes that she will have to do something, because sitting there and hoping her debt would go ... more

    Advantages Advantages Extremely Entertaining

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Abrupt ending

So Much Better Than the Film If I was delighted with the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, I was twice as delighted when I finally read the novel. Part of my enjoyment of the reading was the fact that I- like hundreds of other girls- could see myself in the story. This was one of the rare instances where I actually watched the film before reading the novel, and I have to say that the novel was really more engaging, gripping and definitely less shallow than the movie- even if I adored the film! Kinsella's writing is extremely approachable in Confessions of a Shopaholic, and her flair for a ... more

Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella.... Rebecca Bloomwood is a girl who wants it all, great job, lots of money and above all, as many clothes as she can possibly lay her hands on! Working as a writer for a financial magazine on first looks it appears Rebecca Bloomwood is a high flier but really she is just trying to blag her way through a career she feels she knows nothing about. As Rebecca finds herself spending hours daydreaming about what clothes to buy, what clothes to wear and what clothes are made by which designer her ever increasing debt continues. Countless phones calls and ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great 'chick-lit' book

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not laugh out loud funny

We've all done it - decided we're going to give up smoking / eating junk food / spending money, and then convinced ourselves that social smoking doesn't count / one takeaway is fine because it's a treat / I have to buy this book about tips on saving money in order to start saving money. Well, this is what Confessions of a Shopaholic (previously published as 'The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic) is all about. It is the first of five books in the series by Sophie Kinsella (who also writes under her real name - Madeleine Wickham). I've never read any of the Shopaholic books before, but I've ... more

Advantages Advantages Funny, relatable, quick and easy read

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not sure how far into the series I can remain interested in shopping...

I'll be honest, a few months ago I never would have considered picking up this book. However, since I began downloading books to use with my Reader, I've often ended up with titles as part of a job lot that I wouldn't have personally opted for. Undecided on what to read next, I decided to choose an easy, fun book until I made my mind up. This title fit the bill perfectly. Little did I know that half an hour later I'd be anxiously turning pages (or rather pressing the "page turn" button as it were) and even laughing and gasping at loud at what happened. I was officially enjoying a chick lit ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent characters, easy to follow story line, brilliant book

Disadvantages Disadvantages the ending was pretty poor

Confessions of a Shopaholic is a Modern Fiction (Chic Lit) book written by Author Sophie Kinsella - who has also written other books using the name Madeline Wickham. Kinsella is probably more well known for her Shopaholic Series of books; one of which was made into a film more recently; Confessions of a Shopaholic. In all there are 5 books in the Shopaholic Series the first of them being Confessions of a Shopaholic which was also known as Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic. To be honest I wouldn't have normally picked up this type of book however I had read a lot of Sophie Kinsella book reviews ... more

I was recommend this book by a friend, who said she has become addicted to the whole series, and unlike myself it takes a good book to keep her interested so i was very excited to start reading it. I did read the book before i watched the film, as i feel films do not always do a book and the author justice. I must say i really liked this book, the whole series is by far one of my favorites. I think the main reason i loved this book so much is because i could really relate the the main character as i myself am a shopaholic, so Sophie Kinsela had built a connection was right from the start. She ... more
