Advantages Advantages Fantastic service, great advice, friendly employees, a perfect way to get out of debt

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Money is great, while you are earning it, spending and generally enjoying it. However when the money dries up, the memories of enjoying the hard earned cash are more than distant. Especially when you take into consideration the sleepless nights, the fear that cripples your body every time you answer the phone or open a letter or the bank calls because yet another cheque has bounced. As you can probably fathom by now, I have experienced like many people, financial difficulties, severe in fact, to the point where you can't see a way out, ever. Many people had suggestion joining a debt management ... more

I have had poor credit for the past 3 years, i have 4 credit cards and in total my balance for these bloody things totalled almost £9,000! It got to the point where i had filled all 4 credit cards up, was spending more on trying to pay the creditors off than i was actually earning and all i wanted to do was bankrupt myself! I am only just turned 22! I started to ignore the bills and demanding nasty letters coming through the door threatening me with baliffs and county court judgements, they meant nothing to me, they were just words which sounded scarey and the ony thing i could do with them ... more

Ok, so you’ve all seen the television advertisements with the tag lines ‘consolidate all your debts into one monthly payment!’ and ‘We will reduce your monthly outgoings by up to 50%’, and all the rest. Now although these companies may seem like the ideal opportunity to get yourself out of trouble with your creditors just think twice! My Background: = Basically I was the typical university student – very good at spending money! And these days I feel that it is way too easy to get credit as a student and although I should really have had more sense then I just carried on getting everything I ... more

Advantages Advantages A non interest debt consolidation plan? Yes, honestly!

Disadvantages Disadvantages It takes a long time to really feel the benefit

Debt is a subject I find is similar to haemorrhoids. Not just in the fact it's a pain in the arse to have, but also because no one ever wants to talk about it. I am not proud of our debt, neither do I seek sympathy for it, but I am proud to say I have learned from our mistakes, and for that I shall always remain grateful. **Background** I was 18 years old when I met my husband, we were 19 when we moved in together and 20 when we had our first of three children. By the time I was due to have my second daughter we took out a mortgage, in conjunction with a shared ownership scheme. This means we ... more

I had heard about the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) from my boss, he was having a bad time with his finances after getting married so had contacted them for help. During one of our regular chats at work I mentioned that things financially were starting to get a bit tight for us. He advised me to have a word with CCCS as they had helped him out in a similar situation and they could do the same for us. Well I wasn't keen on telling the world I had money problems and was sure things would get better and I kept saying just a few more weeks on benefits and things will be ok. I was only ... more

Advantages Advantages DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN

Disadvantages Disadvantages CAN BE JUST AS AWKWARD TO DEAL WITH AS YOUR CREDITORS

Hopefully you would have read the other 7 reviews in respect of the CCCS so I do not need to go over what they do and how you set up a DMP with them. So now time to read mine, about a slightly less positive experience. BACKGROUND We are an Army family, and had been used to living on the extra perks that our men get when posted to Germany. Wages are higher as allowances are given for extra costs, papers, milk to be brought abroad etc. Living in Germany was about half the price of living in UK, and so you either live life to that fact, or are sensible and squirrel it away. Unfortunately for us ... more

Advantages Advantages Do not charge for their services, deal with creditors for you

Disadvantages Disadvantages Getting out of debt will take some time

The spiralling debt problem is always in the news and there are adverts on tv for lots of different companies promising to solve your problems for you. My advice is to do your research before you contact any of these companies. Most of them charge a fee for their services. Only CCCS and Payplan (as far as I know) are free. My background At university I was a shopaholic and this continued after I left. I wasn't in a great deal of debt on my own but I owed a bit of money on a credit card. Then I met my partner, we wanted our own place. We were looking at places to rent so I extended my graduate ... more

My financial status is shocking to say the least I have credit for everything and from everyone. It all started when I hit 18 because every credit company in the world wanted to give me credit and being young and naïve I took it! For a couple of years I was ok, I had a good job and could pay it back but all I ended up doing was living off my (3!!!) credit cards so I was getting no where. My bank gave me a loan and I paid them off but I fell right back into the trap the companies put up my credit limits and I took it all back on and obviously had my bank loan now to pay as well! This continued ... more

Advantages Advantages They don't charge a set or ongoing fee for debt management.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Advice given maybe biased toward best interests of your creditors, not you

I'm an Insolvency Practionor and would like to offer an review of the CCCS from a different point of view than the other reviews posted here. The Consumer Credit Counselling service uses its charity status to boost its claim to be champion of the struggling debtor, but is the advice it gives always the best advice? The CCCS is a registered charity and is financed by donations. However, most charities I'm aware of exist to help the cause of those in need without any other agenda. The CCCS is financed by the credit industry. Therefore, is it possible to get fair advice on dealing with a debt ... more

I first got into debt at university. I thought that it would be easy to pay it all off when I started working and at first it was OK as I moved back in with my parents. It all started to get out of control when I moved down to London for my big career opportunity things were more expensive and my salary didn't go as far as I thought it would. At first I just missed the odd payment but things soon started spiralling and soon I was in £10,000 worth of debt. The CCCS really helped me. First I looked on their website www.cccs.co.uk. There's a section on the website where you can fill in your out ... more
