Intro I likes my cakes, and I likes me biscuits, but neither meet any of my standards if they are not supported by a cup of good coffee. I usually drink Kenco Rapport instant coffee which I find very nice and more than acceptable even with a cake or biscuit, but it is the good filter coffee that’s makes either sweet taste so much better. There are varying grades and types of filter coffee and I guess as with most drinks its all a matter of taste. My current preference is Dow Egberts, which I switched to recently, and in all likelihood will switch from sometime in the future in order to keep my ... more

Cookworks Coffee Machine Introduction Me and my husband love coffee, and drink it daily. We used to have a café tier, you know the little glass things which you put ground coffee into and press down? But one day my husband smashed it by accident and so since it’s been instant coffee all round. Two days ago I saw an advertisement for this Cookworks coffee machine from Argos for just £4.99, it said it would make 10-12 cups of coffee, so we decided we would buy one for when the family came down as it would mean we could make a pot for all of us, as if it would make 10 cups of normal sized coffees ... more

Cookworks XQ663 Coffee Maker When you are a student, the most important thing for you becomes how you should handle money. Students want to own everything which makes life easier for normal people without wasting much money. Cookworks XQ663 is a necessary item for coffee lovers, and definitely saves them from being inconvenienced and at a very low price. Actually, it is the cheapest basic coffee maker you can buy from Argos for £5.99 and I write this review after buying my second Cookworks XQ663 coffee maker. Although my first coffee maker worked for one year only, and I didn't buy its ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, sturdy, easy to clean

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't make a lot of coffee

Who doesn't enjoy the smell and taste of a freshly made cup of filter coffee? Well, me actually. Let me tell you more... When i was at secondary school, there was a particular teacher who's coffee breath was something of legend. He must have drank at least a gallon of the stuff a day(he actually bought a flask into lessons) and when he got up close to you, the stench of stale coffee breath was enough to make you wretch. This experience completely put me off coffee for years. Then about 6 months ago, i went to an open mic night at a local coffee house (very cool, very Friends) and was persuaded ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages It doesn,t make a lot of coffee

I love coffee some might say i,m a coffaholic lol, anyway my old coffee maker broke so i deceided to look through the argos book . They had a lot of choice i bought a cookworks coffee maker , as i,ve never had any of there products before i wasn,t sure what to expect , but as it was only 6.99 i thought i would give it a try. The machine itself has a black finish and doesn,t look at all cheap , it says on the size of it where you put the water in, it makes a maximum of 12 cups, but if you have your coffee in a mug you will only get 3 maybe 4 mugs out of it . ~ How to use ~ its really simple to ... more

I love this machine for its ease of use, but also for the fact that it was incredibly cheap and does the same job as machines that come in at ten times the price. It was purchased as my third coffee maker in one year (I'm a clumsy beast), so I think I am now in a position to offer an objective view on the budget coffee maker market ;-) After the initial clean out, I've not had a single issue with this machine, it's flawless. Coffee is dumped into the small basket, water goes into the reserve and *surprisingly quickly* you have a passable cup of the black stuff. I will point out two things for ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Cookworks XQ663 by uksnapper 19/11/2008
Before making coffee its worth running several lots of water through with salt added to remove smells,I always do this with coffee makers and its a worthwhile procedure, even baking powder will help to "Clear" the system of taste and smells . The machine makes enough coffee for 3 mugs, fine for my use as that's as much as I need. Its the second best coffee maker,at any price, that Ive owned for making hot coffee . Do pour slowly with the jug resting on the cup rim to avoid spills. At under £8 its a bargain and Ive no hesitation in recommending ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, easy to clean, cheap, makes great coffee, cheap.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Filter lets some fine sediment through.

After the company I work for refused to renew the contract for the Tea & Coffee vending machines, myself and my co-workers were left without our daily caffeine hits. I got the machine from Argos for about £5 and for the price I was expecting a very flimsy bit of kit that would last about 5 minutes. It looks and feels very cheap but it makes hot coffee and that's the main thing. So far it has been running 40 hours a week over the last 6 months. At first there was a slight plastic taste but soon went away with use. It says that you can get 12 cups from one pot but in reality you can only get ... more

I have used the COOKWORKS coffee maker more than 20 times and there is a plastic smell when coffee is brewing that I can taste in the coffee made. It does make hot coffee and is very cheap, but the awful plastic smell and taste means that I no longer use it. I have contacted the manufacturers and I'm waiting for a reply as to what is causing this problem.
