Advantages: Fantastic - the best thing you could have on a hard drive (apart from maybe half-life!) Disadvantages: software not always compatible
Linux is, in my opinion, windows superior competetor. First of all, and one of the greatest aspects, it is free. I don't mean signing up is free, I mean it is FREE, totally. No cost to you. Being this, it has to be one of the greatest downloads you can ever make. It has open source (this means that anyone can change it to however they want so companies make their own vervios - Corel, Redhat...etc.) so you can pick the one that will suit your needs.
... ...it better, I mean, if it cost the exact same as windows, they would still have users. It comes with a few free games (mostly everything for it is free) like snake, smiletis...etc. And loads of screensavers and backgrounds and whatnot. This will have you playing at it, after installed, for ages. It also usually comes with a word processor similar to Microsoft Word. And other progs and stuff you can use, and you guessed it, it is also free!

I have a installed Coral Linux onto a machine which also has Win95 and NT installed. This was easily achieved by partioning the hard drive into 3 partitions and having one operating system on each. The partitioning was managed by the Coral installation process so it is not a daunting task if you are new to that sort of thing.
The installation of Coral Linux was straight forward and completed in a reasonable time without any errors. The Linux does ... ...Linux which would have been nice to define as, like many people, Linux was not installed to be used day to day, but to investigate what the hype was all about.
The operating system has a graphical user interface so it is easy to navigate and investigate what the operating system contains.
The installation I used came free with a magazine and when installed did not have useful programs installed by default but these are easy to obtain from both ...

Review of Corel Linux
Advantages: Easy to Install, GUI will look familiar for Windows Users, Disadvantages: not really an os for the hardened linux user, feel limited if you are a poweruser.
I installed Corel Linux, after vowing never to, but I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The Install was very simple, graphically orientated, not like many other linux distributions that can be painful to install for someone new to linux. It was just like a Windows95/98 Installation, so no major problems there. Once Installed you have a very nice Graphical User Interface using the KDE Desktop, looks pretty, easy to navigate, shouldn’t give ... ...I would recommend Corel Linux to anyone who is thinking about taking a step into the linux world but isn’t 100% confident that they will be able to cope with the change from Microsoft Products. This is the closest Linux distribution I have seen to Windows, the front-end looks astoundingly similar, which can only be good for getting more people interested in Linux. ...

Corel Linux is a very easy to install and easy to update operating system. You don't have to be a computer whizz to use it either. You an update free and get all the programs totally free of charge online.
I bought it to get myself a powerful new desktop and with all the great programmer tools available it's great for new and experienced programmers. Easy to understand and install wizard gives you total control. Ideal for Networks, small businesses ... ...old Microsoft programs that you like. In a word, Amazing. It has opened my eyes to things I never knew possible, with free tech support you cant go wrong with Corel Linux! If you are wanting an upgrade or faster, more powerful system, This is definately worth a look! ...

Corel Linux has received some fairly good reviews, and was marketed as 'Linux for beginners'. Not being much of an expert myself, I tried installing it. The install went OK, with an impressive-looking graphical installation program. But once I actually got into using it, I was rather unimpressed.
Although the supplied KDE window manager was easy to use, I was underwhelmed at the amount and scope of programs provided. It was the basics, and certainly ... ...modem to work, just because Corel can't be bothered to install a program that is, after all, free.
Corel Linux isn't a total failure; it provides the basics and has a fairly good installation procedure. But easy installation isn't everything, and I think most users, like me, will quickly outgrow. So why not start with a more well-equipped distribution, such as Mandrake? ...
