Advantages: Gives me an extra 512MB Disadvantages: No manual.
This review is a little brief, but you can't write too much about a little stick of RAM! No, really you can't.
Even though I had a computer with 1GB of memory I decided I wanted even more from my computer, so I bought this! 512MB is the average amount of RAM a newish computer has, but it really isn't a lot in the long term. But saying I was only upgrading extra!
I never went into a computer before, as I was a software person myself. So I was obviously ... ...ten minutes researching, I thought it would take hours but I was amazed at the simplicity described!
I remember the days of 16MB RAM being loads, so I thought 512MB would cost lots, I was extremely shocked; it only cost around £30, from eBuyer!
Now I'll do a little explaining. Many different types of RAM exist, DDR 400 (PC3200), DDR 266 MHz (more commonly know as PC2100). This is a PC3200 stick. Different motherboards take different RAM.
The way ...

...performance. This value product from Corsair is perfect for most users, the only times its not recommended for are servers that are on 24/7 and overclocking. I've never used value memory for overclocking, so couldn't comment, but I have used value select memory in a desktop that is left running for days at a time and never seen any problems. This memory is very robust, I've never had a chip fail.
Memory is also probably the simplest thing to upgrade ... ...to insert the chip and then you are ready to go. In general, no settings need altering in your computer (since it already has some memory, it now just has more, unlike when its faced with an entirely new device).
When upgrading memory you must check exactly which type you need:
First check that you have some slots free. If not then it will involve removing one of the existing chips.
Secondly you need to know the type. Old pentiums will probably ...

...keep my own upgraded and corsair memory is the brand I've most often used. Put simply its one of the cheapest and in my experiance delivers equal reliability and performance to other brands. I've only dealt with home computers however - I'm not sure how it performs in servers. In home computers though I've never known a chip fail. If you are building a server you intend to be on 24/7 though then you might want to consider their "ultra-stable" server ... ...be better, but I have little first hand knowledge of these, and for everyday use the performance difference is in the micorsecond range.
Memory is also probably the simplest thing to upgrade inside a computer, it takes only a couple of minutes to insert the chip and then you are ready to go. In general, no settings need altering in your computer (since it already has some memory, it now just has more, unlike when its faced with an entirely new device).
