Advantages Advantages takes a while to read

Disadvantages Disadvantages they live in their own little world

So, what the flip is Pesky, well known tomboy and avid ranter against traditional female stereotypes doing buying this filthy rag? I have no idea, to be honest, so let’s say I was forced to buy it for work. I work in a dentist and am forever trying to find the correct balance of waiting room magazines; good enough quality that they don’t look tatty after only 2 days, and not tempting enough that people will pinch it (and people do you know… and if you’re one of them, shame on you!) So, there sat Cosmo on the WH Smith shelf, with a free book (always a good idea to have a free book rather than a ... more

Advantages Advantages MUCH better than the corresponding men's mags

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still only a magazine

Some time ago theediscerning dipped his toes into the world of men's mags, with the help of a 3-month subscription offer of a £. He duly signed up, and actually received 4 copies of Maxim, and thought it was complete and utter rubbish. Page after page of advertorial and glossy pictures for idiots who need a spurious magazine half-full of skinny bimbos to tell them how to live as a man. And so, when the opportunity came up to see the other side of the coin ~ to get 3 copies of a women's magazine for the same price, he leapt at it. It certainly helped that the offer was for Cosmopolitan magazine ... more

Cosmopolitan (Cosmo for short) is one of those magazines that I just have to buy every month - when I see it on the shelves, I think, "I have to get that"... I'm still a little undecided as to whether it is just out of plain old habit, or if the magazine is actually good! Cosmo has definitely got better over the last year, hopefully gone are the days of the free pink flip flops which are lurking somewhere underneath my bed, never to be seen again! May I add that these flipflops had one purpose - to save my ordinary shoes when I was painting my bedroom, so they now are pink with turqouise and ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages repetitive, tired, hypocrisy

There was a time when the new edition of Cosmo landing on my doormat (an elderly relative having been persuaded that, if she was going to get me a magazine subscription for Christmas, maybe I’d prefer Cosmo to Reader’s Digest. Oh, and it’s about, um - hair and clothes and stuff, auntie, honest!) was greeted with a fair amount of enthusiasm. From the doormat, it rarely lasted to a second day’s reading (mind you, that could’ve been more to do with the assignment on pension funds I was supposed to be writing instead – amazing what distractions could be found at ... more

The writers at Cosmo have a hard job, in my opinion. This magazine has been going since the 1970's, and there's only so many ways you can re-work the same fun features on love, life and fashion & beauty. So I think the girls of cosmo deserve a round of applause for still selling thousands of copies a month to a very wide audience. Though the target market is clear (young, fun-loving girls) It's the first magazine from my monthly pile that my mom steals to flick through, my best friend (about as different from me as night and day) read it religiously for a long time, and even my flatmate's ... more

Hello! I'm new to Ciao and this is my very first opinion! I've read other opinions to get the gist of what I'm meant to be doing including a few "How to Write Opinions" which I hoped would get me off to a good start! I think I may of already broken one of the rules by waffling! -Sorry! :) I've decided to write about Cosmopoliton... **~~WHAT IS COSMO?~~** Cosmo is a women's magazine which seems to be aimed at young female professionals. It regards itself as very prestigious! It features alot of fashion and beauty but also include articles which deal with issues like rape and alcholism amongst ... more

HA! Knew that would get the men's attention! Cosmo is one of the magazines that is always flung into my shopping basket when it comes out every month - I started buying it last year after reading the front cover and seeing what sort of features it contained. The size of the magazine impressed me as well - it's a big chunky magazine and seemed like great value for money at only £2.80, but that was before I discovered just how many adverts each issue contained... This magazine is published once a month, and is aimed, I'd say, at women in their 20s and 30s. Marketed mainly as a fashion mag, it's ... more

Advantages Advantages Free book with the August issue

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too much advertising, too much sex (Yes, you CAN have too much sex!), skimpy models, expensive products advertised, did I mention TOO MUCH SEX??

I’m not really a magazine person. I mean, I love reading, but much prefer books. I find books more interesting, I get more out of them. A novel is a long, slow, pleasure-filled session; a magazine is quick and often unfulfilling… which really brings me round to the question – Why? … did I buy Cosmopolitan? Well, because it came with a free novel!! Yes, one Amanda’s Wedding by Jenny Colgan – just the sort of books I am stuffing my bedside table with at the moment. It had a good cover, nice colours, nice font and looked a good read. It also came with a free ... more

Well do you? If you do you've clicked on the right op, because I have some very juicy gossip for you all to read, interested or not! INTRODUCTION Cosmopolitan magazine, sometimes called Cosmo for short has been around for ages but only been REALLY noticed recently. Many folk look down apon this mag and think that it's dirty, disgusting and only for desperate women with sad lives but that isn't true at all and read on to find out why. The subject of this op, the magazine, of course did not attract your wondering eyes to open my op and read it, of course the title probably did, didn't it ... more

Oh how men quiver at the thought of the "cosmo" woman!!Liberated, sexually dominant, knows what she wants and knows how to get it!!!Grrrrowl, she's a tigress in the sack and as sleek and streamlined as a racehorse as she climbs that career ladder crushing the gasping men in her wake with one tap of that killer manalo blahnik heel. It seems this 80s and 90s image of the cosmo woman, has in fact faded as far as the magazines content is concerned. For withthin Cosmos glossy pages is a quivering, unstable, emotionally wrecked, overweight and COMPLETELY CLUELESS female stereotype, more concerned ... more
