WELCOME TO THEIR YOUNIVERSE Diamond review Review with images

Advantagestakes a while to read

Disadvantagesthey live in their own little world

"...magazine is about £3.50, whereas Cosmopolitan at the same size is only £2.85, so this was my first (and only) pleasant surprise. ***THE FREE GIFT*** However, the first of many disappointments was revealed when I got the evil plastic packaging off. I hadnít been able to see exactly what the book was, but had imagined it would be one of those chick lit books I tend to read before bed to put me to sleep, and then give to the charity shop two days ..." How the other half lives?

AdvantagesMUCH better than the corresponding men's mags

DisadvantagesStill only a magazine

"...that the offer was for Cosmopolitan magazine ~ "the best-selling magazine in the world" as the spine message has it. Yes, although Radio Times is the nation's biggest-selling, it doesn't go down so well abroad, and so with all its national editions, none come bigger than Cosmopolitan. Heck, no-one even calls it after its full name, so theed isn't going to continue doing so. If cosmo were a woman, sat on the supermarket / newsagent / petrol station ..." Read review

For females who like reading adverts

AdvantagesFull of fashion tips

Disadvantagestoo many adverts

"Cosmopolitan (Cosmo for short) is one of those magazines that I just have to buy every month - when I see it on the shelves, I think, "I have to get that"... I'm still a little undecided as to whether it is just out of plain old habit, or if the magazine is actually good! Cosmo has definitely got better over the last year, hopefully gone are the days of the free pink flip flops which are lurking somewhere underneath my bed, never to be seen again! ..." Read review

Stop drooling, boys

Advantagesif you must buy a woman's mag...

Disadvantagesrepetitive, tired, hypocrisy

"...the demographic) and say that Cosmopolitan is the probably the best of its kind. Unfortunately. Typical contents: sex, ‘sexy’ fashions, make-up to make you look sexy, sex confessions, sex positions, your sexed-up horoscope for the year, the agony page (guess what most people are looking for advice on?!). Oh, and just so you don’t think it’s single-minded, a few real-life horror stories and bit of career advice, just in case ..." Read review

and cosmo girl would know...

Advantagesfun, fluffy read, affordable products, down to earth writing

Disadvantagesrepetition, over-emphasis on sex, lack of originality sometimes

"The writers at Cosmo have a hard job, in my opinion. This magazine has been going since the 1970's, and there's only so many ways you can re-work the same fun features on love, life and fashion & beauty. So I think the girls of cosmo deserve a round of applause for still selling thousands of copies a month to a very wide audience. Though the target market is clear (young, fun-loving girls) It's the first magazine from my monthly pile that my mom steals ..." Read review

HAVE BETTER SEX

AdvantagesLots to flick through

DisadvantagesToo many adverts

"Hello! I'm new to Ciao and this is my very first opinion! I've read other opinions to get the gist of what I'm meant to be doing including a few "How to Write Opinions" which I hoped would get me off to a good start! I think I may of already broken one of the rules by waffling! -Sorry! :) I've decided to write about Cosmopoliton... **~~WHAT IS COSMO?~~** Cosmo is a women's magazine which seems to be aimed at young female professionals. It regards ..." Read review

Scantily clad women galore....

Advantageslots of stuff to read, good for fashion and sex tips!

Disadvantagestoo many damn adverts...

"HA! Knew that would get the men's attention! Cosmo is one of the magazines that is always flung into my shopping basket when it comes out every month - I started buying it last year after reading the front cover and seeing what sort of features it contained. The size of the magazine impressed me as well - it's a big chunky magazine and seemed like great value for money at only £2.80, but that was before I discovered just how many adverts each issue ..." SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX

AdvantagesFree book with the August issue

DisadvantagesToo much advertising, too much sex (Yes, you CAN have too much sex!), skimpy models, expensive products advertised, did I mention TOO MUCH SEX??

"...related, vaguely interesting bits in Cosmopolitan too, just to redress the balance a bit – including interviews with Tamsin Outhwaite, Ioan Gruffud (Spellchecker loved that!) and Craig David. There’s an interesting article on near-death experiences, one on a woman who has been a bridesmaid eight times (beating my own record of four times) but never married (nowhere near challenging my record there!), another on an air hostess who was ..." WANNA SEE EMINEM AND MICHAEL GRECCO IN THE NUDE

AdvantagesEminem and Michael Grecco

DisadvantagesToo many adverts

"Well do you? If you do you've clicked on the right op, because I have some very juicy gossip for you all to read, interested or not! INTRODUCTION Cosmopolitan magazine, sometimes called Cosmo for short has been around for ages but only been REALLY noticed recently. Many folk look down apon this mag and think that it's dirty, disgusting and only for desperate women with sad lives but that isn't true at all and read on to find out why. The subject ..." if this is todays woman were in trouble

Advantageslots of sex tips

Disadvantagesif you'd use them, you dont need them

"Oh how men quiver at the thought of the "cosmo" woman!!Liberated, sexually dominant, knows what she wants and knows how to get it!!!Grrrrowl, she's a tigress in the sack and as sleek and streamlined as a racehorse as she climbs that career ladder crushing the gasping men in her wake with one tap of that killer manalo blahnik heel. It seems this 80s and 90s image of the cosmo woman, has in fact faded as far as the magazines content is concerned. For ..." Read review

Still an advert mag

AdvantagesReal life stories, interesting feature articles

DisadvantagesAdverts

"Its been a year but what an improvement! Well, a small improvement. I last brought Cosmo in May last year when I was given a voucher for a free copy. I was not that impressed so never brought it again. That was, until last month when I got another voucher for a free copy. I decided to use it and see if it has changed at all. Decreased but not disappeared was its image of an advert mag and pages and pages of fashion clothes (which were very nice ..." Read review

SEX, ADVERTS AND PURE TACKINESS

"The Cosmopolitan October edition is dissapointing. Yet again. Why do I buy this trash? I don't know. But after another dissapointing terrible magazine, I'll definatly be skipping this one next time. I paid an overpriced £2.70 for Cosmo. But then it is quite thick (mainly adverts mind) and is a total of 358 pages. Sounds like it should keep me going. But does it? No. There are ALOT of adverts and "Cosmo Promotions" which set themselves ..." Read review

"I haven't read Cosmopolitian for quite a while. When I got my hands on the November issue during a brief stay in hospital (always a good time to acquire magazines), my first thought was 'oh it still looks as glossy as ever'. The cover is quite eye catching due to the pink and orange lettering used. The cover states that the November issue is 'at long last the sex issue', which is an amazing statement for cosmo to make, bearing in mind its history ..." Read review

For Wishful Thinkers...

AdvantagesNone that I can see.

DisadvantagesReinforces individuals' "place" in society.

"...of the female population that Cosmopolitan actually applies to, but for the rest of us, it is just a glimpse at what we could have. I have bought this glossy "fashion" magazine a few times now, but I refuse to buy it ever again. I will explain why. Lets take a look at the issue for February 2001. A glamorous model on the cover with a girly pink background, and several large headlines including "Cosmo's 7 laws of relationship success", "18 show-off ..." Read review
