Advantages Advantages Available in powder or ready made; Satisfies my baby

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not available in larger cartons

***** Why Cow & Gate? ***** When I first had Ellie, I began by breastfeeding. As she was so little, however (she weighed only 5lbs 14oz), she didn't really take to breastfeeding that well at first and she would only suckle for vey short lengths of time before falling to sleep. My midwife suggested that we complemented the breastfeeding with a little formula milk, to ensure that she was getting sufficient food. I was surprised to find so many choices and to be honest, I didn't know which brand of formula milk to choose: SMA, Farleys, HIPPOrganic, Cow & Gate, Aptimil...... I found it all quite ... more

Advantages Advantages Thicker, more filling milk, peaceful nights!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

One thing I have learnt during the first year of parenthood is that a baby's routine changes constantly, or certainly that was the case with my little one. Cow & Gate Good Night Milk helped me during one such difficult phase I was faced with at around the 6 month stage. After a couple of months of relatively peaceful nights, the baby began waking at night wanting an extra bottle. At the time, he was being well fed in the daytime, and we were happy that he was getting all that he wanted. After speaking to a friend, I was recommended to try using Cow & Gate Good Night Milk for the final feed of ... more

Advantages Advantages Calmed my baby's colic, constipation and sore tummy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricier than other formulas, gives baby a runny/smelly bum

Making the decision to formula feed your baby is a hard one. Not only do you feel incredibly guilty for not being able to do (and in my case, not really wanting to do) one of the most natural things in the world, I have found a lot of people seem to be intent on telling you why breastfeeding is better for your child. As if you haven't already considered this. What I am trying to say is please do not feel guilty if you have been unable to breastfeed, or have chosen to bottle feed for personal reasons. A happy mother is an essential ingredient for a happy baby and if formula feeding is how you ... more

4 Stars Cow and Gate Premium First Milk Review with images 23/07/2006
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, quality brand

Disadvantages Disadvantages not breastfeeding, is it?

I bought Cow and Gate Baby Milk before I had my daughter as although I wanted to breast feed, I was also aware that I needed a back up - just in case. I picked it out as it is a brand that I recognised, I thought that all baby milks were much of a muchness and Cow and Gate is averagely priced. When I had Lily in March, I had to have an emergency caesarean, so we stayed in hospital for 5 days. For that time I breastfed her and was the only person on the ward of four doing so! I really enjoyed being close to her and was pleased that I was able to do it. However once we got home, things changed ... more

    Advantages Advantages Baby loves it!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I decided as soon that I was pregnant that I did not want to breastfeed so I spent nine months trying to decided which milk I was going to feed to my newborn. After reading the labels and comparing prices etc I chose Cow & Gate premium as I thought it was the best value for money and it states on the box that is close to breastmilk. I have not looked back since as my daughter loves it and has never had any problems drinking it. The premium milk is the first stage in the Cow & Gate milk series and comes in a light green packaging. The series is made up of 4 types of milk - Stage 1 - premium ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great range

Disadvantages Disadvantages Should make bigger tubs

General When I was pregnant I was really sure that I was going to breastfeed, I did for a while. But things were a bit hard at the start when my little baby girl was born. , I was having a phenomenally long labour and was getting really tired and emotional. I had been in labour for 13 hours so I gave in and asked for some more pain relief Pethidine, I was only using gas and air and a tens machine at first. The pethidine had an effect on my baby Ella and made her really tired so she wouldn't feed probably from me. By the time she was ready to feed and awake my breasts were engorged and she ... more

Advantages Advantages Low in lactose, solved baby's colicky problems

Disadvantages Disadvantages Messier to prepare than other milk, due to packaging

My baby was becoming increasingly "colicky" and crying about 80% of his time awake, by the age of 10 weeks. I had breast fed him for about 7 weeks then gradually moved on to SMA Gold which had been fine for my daughter. Didn't really get any helpful advice from health visitor ("..some babies cry a lot" !!) so turned to the web and found his symptoms (bloated tummy, miserable crying, very windy esp. from bottom end) seemed typical of lactose intolerance. Web pages pointed in the direction of Colief drops or low-lactose milks with hydrolysed proteins. I found ciao THE most helpful site and ... more

Advantages Advantages readily available, easy to use, baby likes it

    Disadvantages Disadvantages smells yukky!

Cow and Gate was the first milk I tried, and its the only milk I've used. I began mixed feeding when my baby was 6 days old, moving to sole bottle feeding at 3 weeks old. I chose cow and gate because it was the milk I'd had as a baby and because (sad as it sounds) I liked the packaging more than any of the other brands. I bought several brands of milk in small cartons to try, cow and gate premium was the first we tried and my baby took to it straight away so I never bothered with any of the others. Why cow and gate? My baby enjoys the taste of this milk, shes gained weight very well on it and ... more

Advantages Advantages Definatly thicker and filling

Well, I guess I should have really had my suspicions when my friend who has a similar aged baby to my little girl (7 months), gave it to me free and looked particularly haggard that day. 'What a wonderful gesture' I thought to myself, as I know that this little 400g tub costs £4.98at Tesco and not something we would buy ourselves, as the prices of the milk have gone up dramatically recently, however that is another review and another rant for another day... So evening came and I made up this lovely milk that says it will keep your baby full until the morning comes, and is especially developed ... more
