Advantages: Battery life, excellent sound, ease of file transfer, customizable themes, SD slot Disadvantages: DAB disappointing, menu not the easiest to navigate
...in the direction of the Cowon D2. Reviews could do nothing but praise this little gadget, and it certainly sounded impressive. With it's high quality touch screen and sound that is supposed to be one of the best, I immediately typed it into Amazon to find how much it cost. I found out they were many other features to write home about. Fair enough there was the absence of Bluetooth, unlike my Samsung YP-S5, but this was more than made up for my the ... ...32gb cards. Coming in three flavours, 4, 8 and 16gb, I decided to upgrade from my usual 8gb capacity and go for the 16. With the addition of a 16gb SD card which was actually quite cheap, this boosted it up to a whopping 32gb capacity! I also chose the one with the digital radio as I quite liked the idea of a portable DAB. This cost £180 (excluding SD card). I couldn't wait for it to arrive but I made mistake! I loaded all of my 16+ gig of music ...

Advantages: Small player, huge touchscreen, packed with features. Disadvantages: Maybe not as pretty as some, awkward stylus.
I purchased a Cowon D2 about 3 weeks ago after deciding that I wanted a new mp3 player, and I wanted more than can be offered in your average stores. I took the risk of choosing a product that can only be purchased over the internet, and which is made by a company, Cowon, which I had not heard of before. As of now, I am extremely pleased about my taking of this risk. The main competition for the D2 is the iRiver Clix 2, however I chose this player ... ...is that on their website, Cowon regularly post firmware updates for all their products, including the D2. Since the taking of that picture of the D2, another category has been added to the menu, “Utilities”. As of now, this only has one sub category, and although it is not entirely necessary, it is a bit of fun. The “Notepad” will allow you to do little drawings and notes on your D2, something which is of course only available due to it being touch ...

Advantages: almost everything (read the review) Disadvantages: slightly clumsy interface, some may dislike the big touch screen
great sound quality, capable of outputting at a higher power than my previous ipod (which means if you plug it in to speakers, it can play louder), great battery life, supports loads of file types (eg OGG and FLAC as well as the usuals), supports an SDHC slot so you'll be able to stick a theoretical extra 32gigs in (currently I believe 8gig SDHC cards are available), so plenty of future-proofing there. Also supports video playback (a whopping 10 ... ...great contrast/brightness, support for custom skins to change the layout (on newer firmwares), hard buttons on top which can control basic track forward/back/pause as well as volume (useful when its in the pocket), lots of good sound enhancement tools (a coupla bass tools, mp3 enhancement, equaliser (optional on/off and different freq ranges are adjustable)...
The list is endless. I owned a first gen ipod nano before this, whch was 4 gigs and cost ...

Advantages: Excellence in audio and video reproduction Disadvantages: None, really. Maybe the price.
Jabond's review is excellent and covered most aspects of the player, so I'll be brief here.
Audio: this thing will read pretty much anything you throw at it, and it's damn good at that too: it reads more codecs than you'll ever need, notable among them is FLAC, a lossless codec which can make the most use of the ample memory(for a flash memory player) and excellent sound quality.
Lots of audio enhancements are avaible, and the great thing is that ... ...the BBE enhancements on a flat EQ.
Video: the screen is bright enough for use in direct sunlight, and has very good contrast. It's more solid than it looks, but I still suggest applying an 'invisible'(we don't wanna ruin the video quality on this bijoux, do we?) screen protector, if anything because it can be changed should it get scratched. An ample amount of video codecs can be read, not as much as Cowon's top of the range, but still above average.
