A course for Experimentalits and Sound Designers

Advantages: Great campus, great employabilty rate of course, beautiful city
Disadvantages: not for those who are comerically or classical inclined

Let me start by saying that if you want to write songs, this is not the course for you. It is heavily based towards dealing with and understanding pure audio. First year gives you an idea of how much sound matters, from sound design to production. There is some composition involved, but not of a classical or commercial standard. You are pushed to break boundaries and experiment with sound, try things you never would have thought to do. Not all modules ...
...but all will put you in good stead for the world of sound and the music of the avant garde. Second year really takes it up a notch, heavily into audio theory and synthesis and sampling, one of the highlights of this year is a module devote to create a piece out of nothing but the signal generator and plug ins in pro tools. "Follow the course Luke" update.

Advantages: A very easy course, easy to achieve a good grade.
Disadvantages: You leave university with no real skills and having wasted your time.

Having finished the course I can safely say that the majority of people at this university are stupid so don't go there with the aim of anything approaching a stimulating conversation. The people on the course tend to be wannabe DJs and people who think themselves the coolest little things on the planet. Looked at from a purely classical perspective (which is most probably the wrong way to) the majority of the students are not real musicians at ...
...the students do have some definite talent for engaging with modern methods and materials. The course itself is occasionally fun, especailly the first year when you are allowed a lot of free composition and composing for soundtracks etc. But upon entering the second year of the course, there is a real change as the work changes into an entirely non relevant to music direction.
